Chapter 475 - 474: Telepathy in Action

Seeing that his Yanmega was at a disadvantage, Rei slowly narrowed his eyes.

"It seems I underestimated you a bit," he said.

The information Rei had received indicated that Cain's strength was average among Captains, while Rei himself possessed the power of a high-level Captain, just one step away from the Officer rank.

He had already applied for the position of Officer in Team Rocket and only needed to pass the evaluation to achieve it.

Initially, he thought that facing Cain would be a straightforward task, but the power of Cain's Honchkrow was somewhat unexpected.

Clearly, that Pokémon also had the strength of a high-level Captain!

Rei's face darkened.

The inaccurate information had put him at a disadvantage.

However, he believed the situation was still under his control. According to his intel, Honchkrow was Cain's strongest Pokémon, capable of suppressing his Yanmega, but Cain's other Pokémon shouldn't be as powerful.

With this confidence, Rei grabbed a Poké Ball from his belt.

"Go, Ariados!"

He threw the Poké Ball, and an Ariados appeared out of nowhere.

Cain quickly activated his system to scan Ariados' data.

Pokémon: Ariados (Dark Green)

Gender: Male

Level: 39

Types: Bug + Poison

Ability: Sniper

Held Item: None

Egg Moves: Sonic Boom, Pursuit, Signal Beam

Basic Moves: Swords Dance, Focus Energy, Absorb, Venom Drench, Fell Stinger, Poison Sting, String Shot, Scary Face, Constrict, Infestation, Night Shade, Shadow Sneak, Fury Swipes, Sucker Punch, Spider Web, Agility

Learned Moves: Giga Drain, Snore, Bug Bite, Bounce

TM Moves: Protect, Hidden Power (Water), Double Team, Poison Jab

This Ariados was no weakling, and its Sniper ability was quite rare.

"Another Bug-type trainer?" Cain frowned, thinking.

However, he wasn't too concerned. Since the opponent had sent out another Pokémon, it would be challenging for Honchkrow to face two Pokémon at once, so Cain also grabbed a Poké Ball from his belt.

"Go, Sneasel!"

In reality, Slowking might have been the best choice to deal with this Ariados, but Cain decided to send out Sneasel instead.

If Slowking entered the battle, victory would be easy, but Cain wanted his other Pokémon to get some training too.

"Sneasel, Agility, then Icy Wind!" Cain ordered.

The moment it emerged, Sneasel followed Cain's commands.

It sprinted quickly across the grassy field and exhaled a freezing wind mixed with small ice fragments toward Ariados.

"Ariados, Bounce. Evade the Icy Wind, then use Swords Dance!" Rei ordered calmly.

Even if the bond between a trainer and their Pokémon is strong, there's always a slight delay between a command and its execution. That delay is an opportunity for the opponent to react.

As in this case, after Sneasel started running and unleashed the Icy Wind attack, Ariados dodged it with a high leap and landed to perform Swords Dance.

With Swords Dance and its Sniper ability, if Ariados landed a critical hit, even Sneasel could be taken out in one strike.

Cain frowned and decided not to hide his tactic anymore.

He activated his psychic power, his eyes glowing red, and used telepathy to communicate directly with Honchkrow and Sneasel.

"Honchkrow, use Protect to withstand Yanmega's next attack, then charge with Sky Attack and switch your target to Ariados!"

"Sneasel, avoid getting close to Ariados after it uses Swords Dance, run and use Icy Wind on it, then use Icicle Crash to block its retreat and create an opening for Honchkrow to attack!"

The telepathic commands were issued extremely quickly.

Cain only needed to think his orders in his mind, and his Pokémon could receive them.

"Yanmega, use Quick Attack, then Bug Bite on Honchkrow!"

"Ariados, after Swords Dance, use Sucker Punch on Sneasel!" Rei commanded his Pokémon.

However, to his surprise, Cain didn't react to the attack orders at all.

Although Cain's eyes were glowing red, which seemed strange, Rei didn't consider the possibility of telepathy since Cain had never shown any practical psychic abilities before.

Yanmega used Quick Attack again and launched toward Honchkrow, ready to use Bug Bite.

Yanmega's ability, Tinted Lens, made Bug-type moves less ineffective against Honchkrow's Flying type, allowing Bug Bite to deal normal damage.

If Honchkrow were hit, it would take considerable damage.

Meanwhile, Ariados on the ground, after performing Swords Dance, rushed toward Sneasel.

Sneasel, seeing Ariados approach, also began running rapidly and unleashed Icy Wind again, slowing it down.

Honchkrow, floating in the air, remained still as if waiting for Cain's command.

Just as Yanmega was about to strike Honchkrow, the latter abruptly changed direction and launched toward Ariados.

However, Yanmega's speed, already maxed out, was clearly far greater than that of Honchkrow, which had just started moving.

Rei showed a delighted expression; although he didn't understand why Cain hadn't issued a command, Yanmega was about to hit Honchkrow. Once Honchkrow was injured, the battle on both fronts would be quickly decided.

But just as he thought the tide had turned in his favor, the situation changed suddenly.

After slowing Ariados with Icy Wind, Sneasel didn't evade anymore. Instead, it condensed four icy stakes and hurled them directly at Ariados.

This wasn't the first time Sneasel and Honchkrow had used this tactic.

The Icicle Crash move temporarily immobilized the enemy Pokémon, while the charging Honchkrow delivered a fatal blow.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The four icy stakes hit the ground. Although Ariados dodged them, it was trapped between them.

Yanmega's Bug Bite struck Honchkrow but was blocked by a pale green energy shield.

And during that brief interval, Honchkrow's flight speed suddenly increased.

Blue flames enveloped its body.

Sky Attack!

Ariados, which had just dodged Sneasel's Icicle Crash, was about to relax.

Then, suddenly, it saw a large blue bird right in front of it.

Boom!

The four icy stakes behind Ariados shattered, and the Pokémon was sent flying, crashing into a distant tree.

Ariados immediately lost its ability to fight.
