Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 396 - 395: The Black Serpent
Chapter 396: Chapter 395: The Black Serpent
A group of people, all dressed in black cloaks, moved through the night. If it weren't for the poor security in Leafy Town and the lack of people at this hour, someone might have called the police upon seeing them.
The Black Serpent Gang's headquarters was in the northwest corner of the town, while Cain's house was in the southwest corner, both on the western side.
Each member rode their Pokémon, moving along the muddy paths, while Cain waited in his room.
Slowpoke had marked all six of them with psychic coordinates. Given Leafy Town's small size, Cain could teleport at any moment.
He only needed to wait until the six reached the Black Serpent Gang's hideout to join them.
Soon, half an hour later, at the speed their Pokémon were moving, they arrived at the entrance to the hideout.
Due to the town's economic stagnation, there weren't many recreational activities. Even an underground group like the Black Serpent Gang spent their nights at their base, entertaining themselves.
When Alec and the others reached the gate, there was no battle as they had expected because the two guards were already fast asleep.
As the village's self-proclaimed rulers, the Black Serpent guards didn't anticipate anyone attacking their hideout in the middle of the night. They were used to relaxing and dozing off after midnight.
Thus, they failed to notice Alec and the others' ambush.
"Kill them," Alec ordered with a frown, thinking the Black Serpent Gang was even more pathetic than he had imagined.
Following his command, Fox and three others released their Pokémon, who eliminated the sleeping guards before they could awaken from their sweet dreams.
Suddenly, a psychic wave slightly distorted the space. Thanks to Slowpoke's Teleport, Cain appeared beside the six.
"Sir!" The six greeted him respectfully.
Cain returned Slowpoke to its Poké Ball. It wasn't the time for it to fight.
"Let's go. Let's see just how worthless this gang is," Cain said, glancing at the two corpses on the ground. Summoning Honchkrow and Sneasel, he moved forward.
The seven, clad in black, looked like death itself emerging from the underworld.
In the courtyard, some people were playing, others snoring, and others drinking with friends. But not a single person was on guard.
When Cain and his group appeared before them, instead of reacting in alarm, they rubbed their eyes, showing no signs of panic.
It wasn't that they were calm; they simply couldn't believe someone had stormed their hideout.
Living recklessly, they didn't think about their safety.
"Kill them all," Cain ordered quietly, frowning.
Initially, he thought there might be someone useful within the Black Serpent Gang, but he was wrong. Without experiencing the trial of blood and life-or-death struggles, no real talent could emerge.
The six, following Cain's command, released all their Pokémon and attacked those who hadn't yet reacted.
Immediately, the smell of blood filled the air, and screams echoed everywhere.
The slaughter had begun.
Cain ignored it and kicked open the building's door, stepping inside.
The screams finally woke those inside. A middle-aged man hurriedly dressing ran out with a woman, only to find Cain in the lobby.
The man's face darkened. Not only had they interrupted his affairs, but judging by the sounds outside, his gang wasn't even putting up a fight.
"Damn it! Who are you?" the man roared while fumbling to dress himself.
The woman beside him didn't seem in a hurry to fix her clothing. Instead, she looked at Cain with interest.
"The one who's going to kill you," Cain said calmly.
"Idiot! Where's Viper? Did he send you? I'll pay you double whatever he offered!" the man shouted, assuming Cain had been sent by his rival, Viper.
After all, as a local leader in Leafy Town, he had never intended to expand or offend anyone. He was confident that his connections in the town were unshakable.
Under his hood, Cain raised an eyebrow. It seemed the rivalry between Viper and this man had reached a breaking point.
At that moment, Viper stepped out from another room. Seeing Cain, he showed slight surprise. He looked at the enraged man but remained silent, observing.
He glanced at the woman with disdain.
Cain wasn't interested in their drama and had no time to waste on it.
"Honchkrow, Tailwind. Sneasel, Agility," Cain ordered coldly.
The man quickly threw out two Poké Balls, from which emerged two snake-like Pokémon.
Cain's system scanned them and displayed their stats.
One was a level 35 Arbok with light blue quality, and the other was a level 36 Seviper, also of light blue quality.
It seemed the Black Serpent Gang derived its name from these two Pokémon.
At least the man had some fierceness in him, as he didn't hesitate to bring out his strongest Pokémon without holding back.
"Listen, friend! This is your last chance. If you leave now, I won't retaliate," the man shouted, sensing the pressure emanating from Cain's Pokémon.
Cain had been overestimated. Having come this far, he had no intention of negotiating.
"Honchkrow, Wing Attack on Arbok. Sneasel, Icy Wind."
"Graah!" Honchkrow cried, flying straight toward Arbok.
At its current speed, it closed the distance in the blink of an eye.

Meanwhile, Sneasel unleashed a gust of icy wind, which, combined with Honchkrow's movement, reached Arbok and Seviper even faster.
In an instant, both Pokémon were covered in small ice particles. Even the man felt the chill and adjusted his clothes.
His expression quickly changed. Honchkrow's speed had exceeded his expectations.
"Arbok, Thunder Fang on Honchkrow! Seviper, use Swords Dance!"
