Pokémon: Above the Top-Chapter 279: Kyogre’s Domination
Chapter 279 - 279: Kyogre's Domination
Kyogre, the legendary super-ancient Pokémon of the Hoenn Region, its power defied all description.
All people knew was that wherever Kyogre appeared, torrential storms would follow. With just a turn of its body, it could summon tsunami-sized waves.
Just like now, the monstrous wave before the ship rose nearly as high as the ship itself.
Even though Sato knew his current state was immune to the tsunami's damage, he couldn't help but tremble slightly.
This was a natural disaster.
This was the overwhelming might of a super-ancient Legendary Pokémon.
But why... why was Kyogre attacking a human-made ship so insignificant in its eyes?
"ROOOOOAAAR!"
"ROOOOOAAAR!"
Two dragon-like roars echoed from within the ship. One red and one yellow figure burst through the ship's upper deck, flying toward Kyogre with furious cries.
Dragonite.
Salamence.
Two pseudo-legendary Pokémon appeared at once; but before Kyogre, they looked so small, helpless, and pitiful.
It didn't end there. Under Sato's stunned gaze, more Pokémon incapable of true flight came rushing out of the ship.
All eyes turned to the rolling Kyogre in the sea. Whether they were Beast Tamers or Beast themselves, all of them burned with unwavering resolve.
"ROOOOOAAAR!"
High above, Dragonite let out another roar, then used Thunder, striking directly into the giant wave.
Sato caught a glimpse of a red-haired man riding on Dragonite's back, commanding it into battle.
That Thunder was like a trumpet call for war. Salamence, Charizard, Skarmory, Sceptile, Gyarados...
On deck, in the sky, and in the sea. Every Beast allied with humans launched an all-out attack.
All the moves combined created a dazzling spectacle; like fireworks exploding across the battlefield.
"Drago!!!"
So many attacks struck the wave at once, blasting open a massive hole. The ship's first crisis passed without disaster.
But Kyogre... had been enraged.
Its first targets weren't Dragonite or Salamence flying above... but rather, the fellow Water-type Pokémon opposing it in the ocean.
"ROOOOOAAAR!"

Kyogre roared. The sound was clear and ethereal, but carried with it the chill of death.
Kyogre began to gather an immense amount of Ice-type energy. Even Sato, who couldn't feel heat or cold, suddenly broke out in goosebumps.
Sheer Cold!
A move that ignored any defensive boosts. If it hit, it was instant KO!
And Kyogre was aiming at every Water-type "Beast" in the surrounding ocean that dared oppose it.
Sheer Cold erupted. In that moment, every sound vanished. Sato's ears were filled only with ringing.
A flash of blue-white light streaked across his vision, forcing him to shut his eyes.
When he opened them again, the ocean around Kyogre, nearly 300 meters across, was frozen solid.
The ship had been completely iced in. Due to its momentum, the contact points between the ship and the ice began to rupture and fracture on a massive scale.
Only Kyogre itself mysteriously floated in midair. Every Water-type Pokémon in the sea had been turned into frozen statues... lifeless.
A third of the Beast Tamers on deck stood frozen in place. The partners who had fought beside them for so long were just... gone.
Defeated in one blow!
"ROOOOOAAAR!"
Kyogre roared once more. Still ethereal, still distant, but to everyone on the ship, it was the sound of death itself.
"Dragonite, Draco Meteor!"
"Salamence, Draco Meteor!"
Two voices echoed from above. The two strongest Tamers present were the first to recover, and they immediately launched their next moves without hesitation.
The red-haired man riding Dragonite now had bloodshot eyes, because the tallest frozen beast in the ocean was Gyarados, his partner... and now, it was dead.
Two volleys of Draco Meteor rained down, transforming into clusters of meteors that crashed toward Kyogre.
Kyogre was massive, and despite its agility, it couldn't dodge them all under such a barrage.
But in truth, Kyogre hadn't even tried to dodge. With a sudden flick of its massive fins, it moved through the sky with surprising agility.
Thanks to the ocean's boost, Sheer Cold had wiped out all Water-type Beast in the sea in one move. But that didn't mean Kyogre could use the same tactic to eliminate the "flies" in the sky.
At this point, those without strong moves -or whose Beast couldn't fly- could only stand silently on deck, praying.
No one tried to flee. With all the Water-type Beast gone, surviving in the vast ocean with other types was nearly impossible.
More importantly, did anyone truly believe Kyogre would spare those who had attacked it?
The battle above continued, but calling it a "battle" was generous. It was a one-sided massacre.
Every second, more Beast and Tamers were struck by Kyogre and fell from the sky, crashing onto the frozen sea and splattering beyond recognition.
Seeing this, the remaining Tamers on deck began jumping down voluntarily, spreading out over the hard ice.
They rushed toward the falling bodies of their comrades, doing what they could to save even one. And if they couldn't save them... then at least they could help them die with dignity, with their bodies intact.
Their eyes were filled with grief and resolve; but no one begged for mercy. They all knew that against a monster like Kyogre, nothing would make a difference.
Sato stood on deck. He saw the gloomy young man with the Charmeleon jump down as well.
At that very moment, an Altaria that Kyogre had just struck was falling toward the ice, landing not far in front of the young man.
Without hesitation, the man stepped forward with Charmeleon, calculated the landing point, bent his knees, and knelt down, offering himself as a "cushion".
Thud~
A small sound echoed amid the chaos. Altaria, wrapped in a faint blue light, still came crashing down on him.
"Makie..."
The young man gently laid down the dead Altaria and its Tamer, then stood up, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and looked toward the pale-faced girl nearby.
Makie stood there, lips tightly pressed together, eyes fixed on the young man. Her Misdreavus, panting heavily, positioned itself protectively in front of her, as if still afraid the man might hurt her.
But the young man didn't approach. He merely offered a smile that looked more like a grimace. Blood stained his teeth; twisted and terrifying.
"Thank you," he said softly.
If it hadn't been for Misdreavus using Psychic to slow Altaria's fall, the young man might have died from cushioning its impact.
"You're welcome. I'm a Beast Tamer too," Makie said, her face pale, body trembling. Yet still smiling.
"Mm!"
