Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Set a Trap

Qiao En was startled.

Zhou Jin’an’s slender fingers seemed to want to clutch her small hand. π•—π«πšŽπ—²π˜„πžπ•“π§π• π˜ƒπ•–π₯.πœπš˜πš–

"Are you awake?"

Qiao En’s eyes widened as she stared at Zhou Jin’an.

But his eyelids remained heavily closed, showing no sign of opening.

Just then, Detective Wu’s message arrived.

"Let’s go."

He had sent just one word.

Qiao En dared not linger; she pulled back her hand and hurried toward the door. Halfway there, she turned back and hugged Zhou Jin’an again.

"Wake up soon, I’m waiting for you."

She said firmly and assuredly into his ear.

Qiao En slipped out of the hospital room and darted into the fire escape.

She had just left when Cheng Lu returned.

He cautiously pushed open the door to Zhou Jin’an’s hospital room and entered.

The room was still the same as when he had left.

However, he quickly noticed something unusual.

Zhou Jin’an’s fingers were slightly trembling.

"Doctorβ€”"

Cheng Lu was alarmed and hurried to call someone.

A minute later, a doctor in a white coat entered Zhou Jin’an’s hospital room.

What happened inside, Qiao En had no way of knowing.

She left the hospital building and went to the meeting place Detective Wu had arranged.

He had already shed his disguise and reverted to his usual appearance.

"Did you see him?"

Detective Wu asked.

Qiao En nodded her head.

Seeing him, knowing he was unharmed, lessened her worries a bit. However, seeing such a strong man lying on such a small hospital bed added a touch of sorrow to Qiao En’s heart.

"Don’t worry too much, he’ll wake up very soon,"

Detective Wu muttered a sigh and then asked, "What do you want to do next?"

"Help me investigate someone."

"Zhou Ziyan?"

It was as though Detective Wu could read Qiao En’s mind; before she could explain, he had already guessed it.

Qiao En nodded her head again.

With a deep look at Qiao En, Detective Wu asked, "I’ve heard that his mother is also quite shrewd. Do you want me to check on her too?"

"If you could investigate her, that would be wonderful."

"OK."

With a gesture, Detective Wu walked away quickly.

"Wait for my news."

After he went, Qiao En stood outside the building for a long time.

She looked up toward the hospital room where Zhou Jin’an was staying. The floor was too high, reaching into the night sky, making it impossible for her to see.

When would he wake up?

Qiao En hoped for his awakening, yet deep inside she also feared it.

Late at night, she finally walked back to Chengnan Apartment.

As if possessed, she found herself in front of the room she had stayed in previously.

Underneath the entrance mat, there was still a spare key.

Qiao En unlocked the door, but the sight inside startled her.

The sheet covering the sofa had already been folded up.

The room had been cleaned up, with a few more items added.

In the bathroom, there were men’s razors, which Qiao En recognized as Zhou Jin’an’s.

She walked out, and it seemed he had moved in here.

His pajamas were on the bedroom bed, and in the kitchen sink, there was a wine glass he had forgotten to rinse after drinking.

Qiao En stood in the room for a while, the air filled with Zhou Jin’an’s presence.

But it was just a moment; she hurriedly turned off the light, almost fleeing the scene.

Detective Wu was highly efficient in handling tasks.

In less than a day, he had investigated Zhou Ziyan thoroughly.

"These past few days, he’s been interacting a lot with several board members, probably preparing to re-enter Nanchen."

Everything Detective Wu had said, Qiao En already knew.

Although she worked at Nanchen as a janitor, she mingled with people from the President’s secretarial office, so she was relatively well-informed.

"Who has he recently been in contact with?"

Qiao En asked.

Soon, Detective Wu sent over a list of contacts. Qiao En glanced at it and recognized all the members of the board.

But there was one woman’s name that Qiao En was seeing for the first time.

"Who is this Qu Xiaoyi?"

"Ah, she’s Zhou Ziyan’s new flame,"

explained Detective Wu, showing several photos of Qu Xiaoyi.

Qiao En picked up a photo and looked at it closely. Zhou Ziyan’s taste had always been very singular; the women he got involved with all shared common traitsβ€”large eyes, big breasts, long legs, slender waist.

"What kind of person is she?"

Qiao En stared at the photo and asked.

"The princess of Jinma Entertainment,"

replied Detective Wu.

A shadow crossed Qiao En’s eyes; an idea formed in her mind.

Zhou Ziyan liked women from the entertainment venues, always changing and always new.

Women from that place could be bought with money to behave and sell their bodies, promoting a mutually beneficial, no-strings-attached relationship. Once he grew tired of them, a bit of money ensured they didn’t get angry, didn’t curse, didn’t cling, and still held him in high regard.

What he could buy with money, others could buy as well.

Qiao En gave Detective Wu a sum of money, "Then please, meet with her on my behalf."

As for how to meet? Qiao En didn’t specify; she only presented Detective Wu with a task that was not too difficult.

Although reluctantly, Detective Wu quickly completed it.

That day, Qiao En was cleaning the conference room.

Zhou Ziyan suddenly arrived, flaunting around with several board members in a showy manner.

Seeing him, Chen Yin hurried over, "Second Young Master, Director Zhou has instructed that without his permission, you may not come here."

No sooner had Chen Yin finished speaking than Zhou Ziyan, trembling with anger, pointed at her and scolded, "Don’t fucking bullshit me. Quickly inform the other board members to come over. We are having a meeting."

Chen Yin remained stationary, and one of the board members spoke up.

"Secretary Chen, please go and inform them."

Qiao En was in the conference room and saw everything clearly.

While those people had not yet come over, she quickly inserted a hard drive into the electronic display’s card reader.

"Uncle Quan, you must fully support me this time! Rest assured, I will not let you down. I have changed a lot recently..."

Zhou Ziyan said, walking into the conference room.

Just as Qiao En plugged in the card, she immediately grabbed a duster and was about to leave when she bumped into Zhou Ziyan at the door.

"Sec... Second Young Master."

Qiao En quickly wiggled out of his embrace. She hung her head low, feigning clumsiness.

Zhou Ziyan glared at Qiao En disdainfully and flicked his suit with his hand, "Don’t you have eyes? Bumping around everywhere. You’re all thumbs. Once I take office, you’ll be the first to go."

Qiao En kept silent, her head bowed low.

"Get lost, what are you still doing here?"

Zhou Ziyan snapped.

Qiao En did not linger further and quickly gathered her things and exited the conference room.

Fang sister heard the commotion and signaled Qiao En from the pantry.

"Little Xu, were you scared? Don’t worry, the Second Young Master is always like this. Be more careful in the future and avoid his line of fire,"

Fang sister comforted her tenderly.

Qiao En nodded heavily, "Sister Fang, is the Second Young Master replacing Director Zhou to become the new CEO?"

"No, Director Zhou will definitely come back,"

Fang sister assured with certainty.

"Let’s get back to work; this doesn’t concern us."

Qiao En followed Fang sister back to their duties.

Unable to resist Zhou Ziyan, Chen Yin had no choice but to do as he commanded and notify the other board members.

The conference room was noisy, filled with loud arguing voices.

Qiao En, being far away, couldn’t hear clearly.

Later, however, she heard Zhou Ziyan’s furious roar.

"Who did this? Who the fuck did this? This is sheer slander!"

He bellowed madly, stormed out of the room, followed by other sullen-faced people shaking their heads and filing out one by one.

Meanwhile, Qiao En stood upright, wiping the counter in the restroom.

Yet on her face, a barely noticeable smile emerged.
