Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 466: Why Isn’t She Following the Script?
Serena Sterling glanced back with a smile, "Sir, I just wanted to keep it as a collection."
Her father passed away early, and apart from the items left at The Lawson Corporation, there wasn’t much else.
"Making it into a specimen isn’t a bad idea either," Serena continued.
Chairman Zink carefully observed Serena’s expression.
He noticed she seemed serious about it.
Even though Serena hadn’t mentioned Evan Sheridan.
But upon thinking it over, Chairman Zink understood. Even so, he still disliked Evan Sheridan!
And also disliked Evan’s daughter!
"It’s just a plant, and it’s dying anyway. Take it if you want; I’m not such a stingy person!" Chairman Zink remarked indifferently.
"Thank you, sir," Serena replied with a smile, then walked over to the plant and picked it up.
She slightly bowed and said, "Goodbye, Sir."
And then she left.
Left?
What?
He had thought Serena would linger there.
He had prepared a lot, waiting for her after hearing at a gathering that she had a fraction of Evan’s skills.
As soon as Serena came in today, he made his move.
Watching Serena being stunned for a moment made him feel satisfied.
But before he could enjoy it enough, she just left?
She actually left when he told her to leave?
Chairman Zink scratched his head.
Should he ask her to return?
No, that would be too embarrassing since he was the one who let her go.
He even said she didn’t need to come again.
Wait, did Serena mention she’d visit again next time?
Ha, surely she’ll come back in a few days with a revived plant, or perhaps a new one.
It has to be like this!
...
Meanwhile, Serena left Zink Tower with the plant in her arms, accompanied by Raine.
Raine looked at the ensemble and found it somewhat strange.
At this moment, Serena was wearing sharp pointed heels, matched with a suit.
And she was holding a half-dead plant in her arms?
"Serena, what is this?" Raine promptly asked.
"I got this from Chairman Zink," Serena said, then added, "Raine, do you know a place where it can be saved?"
Raine thought for a moment, fiddling with her phone.
"There is a place," Raine said.
"Drive me there," Serena smiled.
"Alright." Raine immediately took action.
The two weaved through the streets and arrived at a small alley.
"It’s here," Raine said, "my childhood friend’s mom owns a shop. I just asked and they said they could take a look."
Serena nodded and carried the plant inside.
...
Zink Tower.
Chairman Zink’s office.
"Serena took the plant for treatment," the secretary reported.
Chairman Zink nodded with satisfaction; everything was under control.
A few days later, the secretary came back to update Chairman Zink with the latest information: "Chairman, our people went to inquire at that shop. They said the plant has been revived, and Serena has already taken it."
Chairman Zink nodded contentedly.
Great, next she’ll come by with the plant to show him what she has managed to revive.
He had to quickly memorize some scripts to make Serena look bewildered again.
He just loved seeing that expression on her face!
But no matter how long he waited, Serena never came.
Was she delayed by something?
Thinking about it, Chairman Zink pressed the intercom button.
The secretary came in immediately.
"Chairman, what’s the matter?" the secretary asked.
"Help me check what Serena has been up to lately," Chairman Zink said.
"Understood."
The secretary quickly set out to gather the information.
Serena wasn’t hiding anything, so soon the secretary returned.
"Chairman, here’s what Serena has been doing recently." The secretary handed a tablet to Chairman Zink, saying, "Mainly daily management of Aeon, preparing for the wedding, and some social engagements since Serena’s fame skyrocketed."
Chairman Zink looked at the tablet. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
That didn’t seem busy at all.
After thinking it over, Chairman Zink instructed the secretary, "Make arrangements; I’m going to Aeon."
"Sure," the secretary responded.
...
At Aeon.
Serena was sitting in her office.
She had just finished handling work matters when Silas Hawthorne sent several sets of designs, asking for her opinion on which to use at the wedding venue.
As Serena was selecting, there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Mr. Sheridan, Chairman Zink is here," Raine announced.
Serena put down what she was holding and stood up to greet him.
"Sir," Serena smiled warmly.
"Hmm," Chairman Zink acknowledged with a nod.
Serena walked out to the sofa area, gesturing for Raine to prepare tea for them.
Chairman Zink sat on the sofa, surveying the décor of Serena’s office.
The design was simple and gentle, with no excess clutter.
However...
The chairman noticed two items on Serena’s desktop.
He stood up.
Serena moved to assist him, but the chairman waved her off.
He used his cane to make his way over.
"This old fellow actually revived," Chairman Zink said, pointing at the plant Serena had taken before.
Serena smiled and replied, "Raine’s childhood friend’s mom opened a shop; Raine took me there, and she’s quite skilled. The plant was revived in just a few days."
"Raine’s childhood friend’s mom?" Chairman Zink repeated, finding it somewhat convoluted.
Just then, Raine came in with the tea.
Serena took the tea from Raine’s hands, smiling, "This is Raine, my secretary."
"Raine, Chairman was just marveling at your childhood friend’s mom’s skill in reviving the plant," Serena told Raine.
Raine realized it, feeling a bit shy, said, "I just happened to run into it, so I took Mr. Sheridan there."
"Chairman, do you like plants? Should I give you her contact information?" Raine suggested.
Chairman Zink nodded and gestured to his secretary to accompany Raine out.
Once the office door was closed, Serena went to pour tea for Chairman Zink.
Meanwhile, the chairman’s attention was caught by another item.
It was a picture frame with two photos inside.
One photo featured Serena, Silas, and Seraphina together.
The other photo was an old picture of Serena, Sheila Jenkins, and Evan Sheridan, where Serena was just a little girl.
The two photos were arranged side by side in the same frame.
After Serena finished pouring the tea, she turned around to find Chairman Zink reminiscing while looking at the photos.
Just as she was thinking this, Chairman Zink snapped back to reality, looking at Serena briefly.
Serena was also looking at him.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Chairman Zink pointed at the plant.
"Well, now that it’s been treated, I’ll take it back," Chairman Zink announced.
Serena’s expression instantly changed, quickly coming over to protect the plant.
"Didn’t you give it to me, sir? How can it be taken back?" she exclaimed.
Chairman Zink’s lips parted slightly, he was dumbfounded.
No...
This wasn’t how the script was supposed to go!
Wasn’t it supposed to be him seeing the plant alive, then feigning admiration and nodding, saying he was taking it back, and Serena would conveniently let him have it, seeking some praise in the process?
At that moment, he would say, "As expected, you just wanted this plant to win my favor!"
Why wasn’t she playing along with the script?
