Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 464: She’s Engaged
Serena Sterling looked away, glanced at Silas Hawthorne beside her, and said, "Let’s go inside."
Silas Hawthorne also saw Julian Lawson; to be honest, it was hard to miss him, since he was at the same intersection.
"Alright." Silas said, guiding Serena inside.
Both of them were dressed in formal attire.
Though it wasn’t the set used for the ceremony, it was something more comfortable.
Serena and Silas were the first to arrive, so they went to find Chloe Langley to get an update on the situation.
"You’re here." Chloe Langley nodded and then went over the latest developments with them.
"Can I take a look at the surveillance footage you’ve found?" Serena asked.
"You can view it here." Chloe said, glancing at Silas beside her, adding, "This footage was obtained from Jude Chaucer."
Silas furrowed his brows slightly, turning to Chloe.
"Officer Langley, do you mean to say that Julian Lawson had someone surveil Preston Langley?" Silas asked sharply.
Chloe nodded and looked at Serena: "We arrived shortly after the explosion; I was at the scene, and Julian Lawson was there."
"He acted strangely." Chloe recalled, saying, "He ran off the moment he saw me."
"We just saw him at the entrance of the police station." Silas added.
"Jude Chaucer also told me Julian Lawson came back, claiming he remembered something important and went to get a document." Chloe responded.
However, all present felt this explanation was unconvincing.
Why retrieve a document at that specific time?
Couldn’t he have sent someone else?
Even if it was urgent, did Julian himself have to go, without notifying Chloe?
But the surveillance does indeed show the alley that Preston Langley bombed.
Indeed, he cannot escape this.
"I’ll question him thoroughly later." Chloe Langley said.
Serena nodded, her eyes still fixed on the footage, trying to discern some clues. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
But the police had already reviewed it several times, and the conclusion remained unchanged.
They were already checking citywide surveillance in the direction where Preston Langley might have fled, trying to track him down, but it would take time.
"I called you here for two reasons." Chloe looked worriedly at Serena.
Serena turned her head, listening intently to Chloe.
"First, to inform you of the case progress."
"Second, to find out if there’s any relevant information you can provide."
Serena nodded and began to recall.
Why today of all days?
What is special about today?
It’s her engagement day with Silas Hawthorne.
Engagement...
Suddenly, Serena thought of something.
"Silas." Serena looked at Silas beside her and said, "The invitation card."
Silas understood immediately and took out his phone to call his team.
He instructed them to wrap up the invitation left by Isla Lawson at the venue and bring it over, as well as gather all the surveillance footage they could find.
The two went outside to wait, and Julian Lawson stood up when he heard the door open in the hallway.
Both parties turned in one direction, and Serena and Julian’s eyes met.
Then, once again, Serena looked away.
She lowered her eyes slightly and walked past Julian with Silas.
"Julian Lawson?" Chloe Langley’s voice came from inside.
Julian withdrew his gaze from her back and went inside.
Sitting down, he still seemed dazed.
All he could see was her leaving with Silas Hawthorne.
Chloe Langley asked a flurry of questions, but Julian didn’t hear any of them.
"Julian!" Chloe became a bit angry, raising her voice, "What exactly happened?"
Julian stared unfocused ahead.
"She’s engaged." He murmured softly.
"What?" Chloe didn’t immediately understand.
She looked at the distraught Julian and recalled the invitation card they mentioned and the formal attire.
She then understood what Julian meant.
She held back for a moment before saying, "If you knew this would happen, why act the way you did before?"
Back when Serena was hit by a car and taken to the hospital, she was fully involved.
When Serena was his wife, he was so ruthless and indifferent, but now that she’s engaged, he’s saddened.
"Pull yourself together; there’s still more I need to ask you." Chloe said.
Julian nodded.
...
At the police station, Serena and Silas sat on a bench in the hallway.
Soon, someone from the venue arrived with the items.
The surveillance footage was also quickly secured.
Their team handed them over to the police, explaining the situation.
After a while, someone stopped in front of them, and Serena looked up to see Julian Lawson.
He had finished his questioning and came out.
Serena didn’t know what to say to him, so she remained silent, waiting for him to speak.
But Julian didn’t know what to say either.
He had so much he wanted to say, wanted to tell her about Preston Langley, wanted to express his deep regret.
But he feared she would say she didn’t want to hear it.
So many emotions choked him up, and in the end, he couldn’t say a word.
The hallway was bustling with people coming and going, talking rapidly.
It seemed noisy.
But between the three of them, there was silence.
Finally, Silas broke the eerie silence.
"The invitation card, it was Preston Langley who delivered it to The Lawson Corporation." Silas stated.
Julian turned his gaze to Silas.
He saw the warning in Silas’s eyes.
Silas’s hand held hers, the two of them wore a pair of engagement rings.
"Today, Preston Langley went there with a plan." Silas continued, "I thought you should know."
Julian nodded.
He glanced at Serena once more.
But she kept her head down and didn’t look back at him.
No one knew how much time had passed when Julian said, "I will catch him."
Definitely.
On the way back, they passed through a bamboo forest, and Serena looked at the bright moon above the bamboo canopy.
The moonlight was bright, shining through the car window gap onto her engagement ring.
The entire backseat ceiling was illuminated by the reflective surfaces of the gemstones.
Then, Silas took her hand.
His palm was warm and dry.
Meanwhile, Julian Lawson was also driving back to his apartment.
He stood in front of the bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling window, watching the traffic below going back and forth.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated in his pocket.
Julian took out Vera Hansen’s phone and saw a message from Preston Langley.
It was about the method of exchanging the document and Vera Hansen.
To ensure his own safety, Preston did not pre-set the time and location but changed it in real-time.
Preston Langley: "If you agree to the exchange, we’ll proceed; if not, forget it. I, Preston Langley, don’t lack women."
Julian didn’t hesitate and replied, "Alright, let’s exchange."
