Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 370: Wish Me Luck
Seeing Silas Hawthorne in such a casual manner, Serena Sterling was reminded of what Raine had just mentioned.
She couldn’t help but chuckle.
"What is it?" Silas asked curiously.
"I suddenly get why Raine doesn’t recognize you," Serena said.
Silas was filled with question marks.
"Think about it, usually, you’re covered in jewels all day, with meticulously styled hair, looking like a mature and reliable big boss. It’s no wonder she couldn’t recognize you like this," Serena said.
Serena pointed at the clothes he was wearing.
Usually, he wore jeweled cufflinks, jeweled brooches, tailored suits that fit perfectly, red-soled shoes, and so on...
Although Silas appeared more gentle and elegant, he was also quite ostentatious.
Being in the gemstone business, it made sense.
Silas smiled and reached out to pinch her cheek.
Serena patted him and glared at him.
Time passed slowly.
After changing into more comfortable clothes and slippers, Serena continued with her previous work.
Everyone was continuously busy, constantly in contact with overseas partners.
Silas was also helping, everyone was working hard.
By the break of dawn, everything was finally settled.
The others in the company were already sprawled out, resting.
Earlier, Silas had brought over a folding bed, which came in handy now.
Serena and Silas were sitting in Serena’s office.
As Serena made final confirmations, Silas opened the door and sat beside her.
"Are you very tired?" Silas asked softly.
"I’m okay," Serena said, leaning on Silas’s shoulder.
Silas didn’t say much, just sat quietly with her.
After finishing the last page, Serena placed the document aside.
Outside the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, the sun was slowly rising.
Serena watched, leaning on Silas’s shoulder, feeling very peaceful.
In a blink of an eye, Serena fell asleep.
Serena’s hand lowered, and Silas felt her movement, looking down.
Seeing she had fallen asleep, he didn’t move her.
Glancing at the time, she wouldn’t have long to sleep, so he let her continue resting on him.
...
On the other side.
Isla Lawson had just woken up and received the latest news.
Now she was on the phone with her subordinates.
"A thirty-million order?" Isla said, leaning back on the sofa, sipping coffee, "Then why are they seeking investment?"
The other party said something.
"Is that so?" Isla’s eyes flashed with amusement, "Such a big trap?"
"No wonder they didn’t dare to come to The Lawson Corporation but went to that event instead."
She laughed heartily and then said, "Does Serena know?"
"Probably not," the other party said, "Our people checked, and the lights at Aeon were on all night. They’re rushing to cooperate with Aether."
Isla immediately stood up.
She paced back and forth in the room.
A huge trap project she wouldn’t invest in, yet Serena was risking her entire fortune and even borrowing from Silas. Once everything was exposed, who was strong and who was weak would be clear to everyone.
Then it wouldn’t be just Xander Linton who saw her as better than Serena, but Silas and Julian Lawson would see Serena as just a pretty face.
The more she thought about it, the more proud Isla felt.
"Listen to me," Isla said to the person on the other end, "We’ll attend today, and when the time comes..."
Meanwhile, on another side.
First Young Master Ford was listening to a report from his subordinates.
"Are you sure Serena is interested in Aether?" he asked, looking at his secretary.
"Yes," the secretary nodded, handing over documents to him.
"Good." He looked at the documents, laughing coldly, "I’ll make her beg me to spare her."
...
Time slowly passed.
Serena suddenly woke up with a start.
She opened her eyes, and the outside was already bright; she squinted to see the time.
"It’s not time yet," a familiar voice came.
Serena looked up and saw Silas.
She had fallen asleep leaning against him.
This made her a bit embarrassed; she got up and massaged his shoulder, fearing she had numbed it while she slept.
"But it’s good you woke up," Silas said, "I had Sawyer send over some clothes. You can freshen up and change, then head to Aether."
"Alright," Serena thought, getting up.
She went to freshen up, and Silas came out, waking Raine.
Seeing the time, Raine immediately sprang into action.
Silas didn’t wake the others, just let Sawyer order some breakfast.
The sun was slowly rising.
Serena and Raine were ready; Serena thought about it and decided to wake some of the others.
She whispered to them, "We’re getting ready to head to Aether. Keep an eye out, and if anything comes up, wake the others. Silas bought breakfast, have some when you wake up."
Getting a response, Serena nodded to Silas and then left with Raine.
There was a lot of traffic along the way.
Serena and Raine both held coffee in their hands.
Raine was still yawning.
Serena just looked out the window.
The sky was very blue, and the sun was bright.
It was a good sign.
They arrived at Aether’s parking lot.
Before Serena got out of the car, someone knocked on her car door.
Serena rolled down the window and saw Thea Lloyd.
She thought for a moment, then opened the door and got out.
"Is something wrong?" Serena asked.
Thea led her to a secluded corner nearby.
"Are you really going to invest in Aether?" Thea asked seriously.
"Yes," Serena nodded.
Thea disagreed, frowning.
"Do you know Lucas Quentin isn’t coming?" Thea said.
"That I didn’t know," Serena replied honestly.
"I thought after you talked with my grandfather yesterday, you would be clearer; I didn’t expect that..." Thea shook her head helplessly.
Serena slightly lowered her eyes and said, "Thea, thank you and your grandfather, but I have my plans."
"Trust me, I’m not reckless," Serena said, "I wouldn’t knowingly jump into a trap. I’m not that stupid."
"Honestly, if it wasn’t necessary, I wouldn’t insist on this project."
Thea gave Serena a deep look and said, "Is it because of Aether’s order? That company behind it?"
Serena didn’t answer.
"Serena, my grandfather has made it very clear," Thea said, "Living well is more important than anything. Don’t pursue your father’s matters any further."
Serena took a deep breath and hugged Thea.
She didn’t speak, but both understood each other’s intent.
Serena quickly let go of Thea.
She didn’t say much, just nodded.
"Wish me luck?" Serena said.
In the end, Thea nodded and patted Serena’s shoulder.
"Good luck," Thea said.
