Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 340: If You Loved So Much, What Were You Doing Before?
Serena Sterling calmed her heart slightly, nodded, and called out, "Mrs. Huxley."
Serena looked at Clara Huxley, not understanding her purpose for visiting today.
She had just heard from Clara Huxley that she came specifically for her.
Thinking about it, Serena was about to lead her to the living room.
However, Clara shook her head and said, "Are you free now? Come take a walk with me."
They were the only two at the entrance.
While Serena was pondering, Clara smiled gently and said, "Don’t be afraid, I think very highly of you and Silas."
That was to express her own stance first.
This was meant to reassure Serena.
Serena felt a bit embarrassed.
She said, "We should have come to see you instead."
"A lot has happened recently, don’t dwell on it. We’ll be a family in the future," Clara said with a smile. "How about getting a facial with me? There’s a nice salon nearby."
Serena didn’t quite understand how the topic suddenly shifted to facials.
But this was Clara’s second suggestion to go out together.
Clara was an elder, making her first visit.
Moreover, Serena had confirmed Clara’s identity with Mrs. Wyatt.
Thinking of this, Serena nodded, "Sure, Mrs. Huxley, I’ll just grab my bag."
Clara nodded with a smile.
Serena went upstairs to get her bag, secretly messaging Silas.
[Aunt’s here, she’s taking me to get a beauty treatment. When are you coming back, Silas?]
Not long after, Silas replied to the message.
[Don’t worry, Mom really likes you, I’ll be back as soon as I can.]
Serena put away her phone after reading the message, grabbed her bag, and took a prepared gift downstairs.
Clara was chatting with Mrs. Wyatt about something.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Mrs. Huxley," Serena apologized.
"Don’t worry about it," Clara said, her thoughts seemingly inscrutable.
They both got into the car and drove off.
In the back seat, Serena handed the prepared gift to Clara.
She said, "Mrs. Huxley, this is tea, you can brew it and drink it. I hope you like it."
Clara accepted the tea, took a whiff, and smiled before placing it in her bag.
As the car slowly drove off, Clara took a closer look at Serena.
"I came today mainly because I saw that PowerPoint online," Clara continued, revealing her intention.
This made Serena even more anxious.
She was vaguely aware of the contents of that PowerPoint.
It mentioned things between her and Julian Lawson.
But Clara was Silas Hawthorne’s mother...
"After seeing that PowerPoint, I felt I needed to come over and express my stance," Clara said, once again taking Serena’s hand. "Don’t worry about what others say, life is not lived for others, it’s only known to oneself."
"Why can’t a woman remarry after a divorce? Just because someone cried a bit before, she has to return? Or stay alone for the rest of her life?"
"If love was so strong, what were they doing before?"
This made Serena’s eyes slightly teary.
"Thank you for understanding, Aunt," she said softly.
"If you’re grateful," just as Serena was touched, Clara suddenly smiled slyly, "make sure to perform well later!"
Ah?
Serena was a bit at a loss.
She closely observed Clara, noticing the quick change in her expression.
While Serena was contemplating, the car had already stopped.
"Madam, we’ve arrived," the driver said, and someone came to open the car door.
"Come on." Clara got out first and then took Serena’s hand as she got out.
Together, they headed to the beauty salon.
This was a small three-story building, complete with a pool, more of a small club than just a salon.
It was clear that this place served only the wealthy.
As soon as Serena followed Clara inside, someone immediately greeted them.
"Mrs. Hawthorne." The receptionist greeted Clara upon seeing her and was a bit stunned after seeing Serena.
"This is my future daughter-in-law, Serena Sterling," Clara said.
Only then did the receptionist snap back to attention and greeted with a smile, "Hello, Miss Sheridan."
Serena nodded.
"I brought Serena here for a facial," Clara stated.
The manager, having received the news, came to welcome them with a beaming smile.
"Mrs. Hawthorne, Miss Sheridan," said the manager, "I was just wondering where you went, Mrs. Hawthorne. Turns out you were bringing Miss Sheridan over."
Clara nodded but didn’t say much more, just holding Serena’s hand to lead her in.
Serena had no idea what Clara was up to, so she just followed, glancing at the manager.
The manager winked at her, seemingly trying to convey something.
However, Serena was not familiar with them and couldn’t understand their intention.
They continued inside until they reached a crossroads. Clara told the manager, "Take us to my usual spot."
But the manager hesitated.
"Mrs. Hawthorne, this..." the manager stammered, "we have some other nice spots, perhaps..."
But Clara just let out a cold laugh and said to Serena, "Follow me."
Then they strode forward.
Just as they reached outside a room, Serena heard voices coming from inside.
"I just said a few things, and she got so angry. What does that have to do with me?"
"Besides, I’m only telling the truth, why does her son have to date Serena Sterling? Anyone know her situation—a woman from a bankrupt family who’s been with another man for seven years."
"I meant well by suggesting her son see someone else. What’s wrong with that?"
"Mentioning the Langley Family’s heiress was also for her and her son’s good. After all, the Langley Family’s daughter is a proper young lady."
...
The person inside seemed to be on a call, ranting without stopping.
Clara and Serena stood outside the door, with the manager looking pained, wanting to knock.
But Clara shot her a glare, silencing the manager.
Serena listened to the words and realized what was happening.
She glanced at Clara.
In fact, when that PowerPoint was circulating everywhere, Clara was getting a facial.
Her usual facial friends were coldly mocking her.
"I’ve heard that this Serena is the one your son Silas is currently dating?"
"Honestly, your son Silas could find any woman he wants. Why pick Serena, who’s secondhand?"
"Serena has been with Julian Lawson for seven years, even had a kid, used up already. With Silas’s status, why not find a proper heiress?"
"I know a good girl from the Langley Family. Shall I give her a call to come over for you to have a look?"
