Playing inventor in a cultivation world-Chapter 18: Ill Fate
When Elder Cassius and Clem arrived, Kara was still preparing breakfast with her children. Seraph tactically left his mother and sister in the kitchen, heading to the dining room like a curious kid. ππ£ππ²π°πππ§π π§ππ.πππΊ
"Ah, Elder. Good morning, sir."
He greeted politely, a bit surprised seeing him here. He had expected the Patriarch to ask Clem to bring it to the Manor. However, it was the opposite that occurred.
Smiling at him, Elder Cassius waved lightly. "Hello there, Seraph. It has been a while since Iβve seen you."
"Indeed." Seraph nodded, then turned to his father. "They want to test it here?"
Clem nodded with a smile, approaching the light bulb placed on the table. Elder Cassius also moved closer, a look of pure interest in his eyes.
"This is it? Looks simple but eye-catching."
Hearing that remark, Clem smirked. As a merchant, he knew very well that before he could gain the upper hand in a bargain, he needed to display his cards.
"Watch and see, Elder."
He grabbed the two wires by their rubber-coated bodies, ensuring he didnβt touch the naked wire.
βSeraph didnβt touch the naked wires too before. And judging from what he explained, the lightning currents might be harmful.β
Seraph was also surprised that his father was actually that perceptive. He folded his arm, watching like a kid about to witness a miracle.
Clem picked up the two wires, then dipped their naked ends into the can of sticky black fluid. Instantly, the luminous spirit orb lit up a bright white light.
Elder Cassius was startled, almost taking a step back. He immediately composed himself, staring at it in wonder.
"Woah! Father, youβre a genius!"
Seraph said excitedly, a pure look of delight on his face.
βThis thing... it is really bizarre. How can it on such bright light without any fire or smoke?β
Elder Cassius thought to himself. He was thoroughly amazed, and he immediately wanted the creation method of the light bulb.
"We should return to the Manor for the greater discussion about this."
At that moment, Kara and Yelena walked out of the kitchen, breakfast on the trays in their hands.
Seraph and his father immediately disconnected the light bulb, packing it away from the table.
While the ladies set the table, Clem turned to Elder Cassius. "Would you mind joining us for breakfast, Elder? I already asked my wife to prepare an extra portion."
The man pondered for some time, then agreed. "Alright."
He joined the family at the table, dining with them and complimenting Karaβs cooking skills.
"As expected, our Moonveil Clan women arenβt to be underestimated."
After he finished the meal given to him, he said proudly.
"Youβre really blessed with a great wife, Sir Clem."
Clem smiled sheepishly, "Of course. I have an eye for beautiful things after all."
Kara blushed at her seat, lowering her head.
βBoring pleasantries.β Seraph rolled his eyes, uninterested. Even Yelena looked bored.
The two siblings locked eyes, and Yelena immediately smiled. Seraph didnβt know why, but his smile also turned slightly genuine.
βAh... what is that cliche title used in animes back on Earth? Was it... Onee-chan?β
Shaking his head at that thought, he finished his food too. By then, Elder Cassius and Clem had already left to make discussions at the Manor.
"Alright, kids. Letβs hope the bargain is successful."
Clasping her hands, Kara smiled at the kids, then packed the plates to the kitchen.
"Go and get your bath before you guys stink!"
Seraph yawned, leisurely walking back to his room. Yelena also returned to her own room.
The instant Seraph sank into the bath tub filled with warm water, he relaxed. It felt as if all his locked muscles were coming undone.
"Halo. Answer me, now. Are you the reason why I canβt remember that moment clearly?"
His voice was cold, leaving no room for compromise.
From within, Halo spoke. ["Still acting cocky, are you? I wonβt give you an answer to that."]
Suddenly, Seraphβs expression softened. "You already gave me an answer, you idiot. So it was you, after all. Why did you make my memories foggy? So I wouldnβt get tainted by the emotions generated by making an achievement? Typical you."
["..."]
It went silent, unable to refute him. Finally, it spoke to him in a tired tone.
["Sometimes I really hate this your sharp mind. Perhaps I should have made you dumber."]
"Heh~ Too late." Seraph smirked.
["...!!!"]
Halo reacted instantly, though it immediately composed itself. However, Seraph caught onto that brief micro-reaction, his smirk widening.
"It is just as I guessed. Your main ability to manipulate me is almost gone, right? After all, weβre already in the second phase of your mysterious mission. Now, youβre just a spectator with barely any power."
As he said this, Seraph waved his hand. Water rose from the tub, forming a cube similar to Haloβs shape.
"At this moment... youβre just an empty shell with some will and consciousness, no?"
The cube of water opened underneath, allowing some water to spill out, leaving it hollow like a cube-shaped cup.
["Sigh, you really know how to strike at anyoneβs weakness, donβt you?"]
"Well, Iβm just stating the obvious." Seraph shrugged, his rainbow eyes gleaming with dark glee.
[Ding! Your invention has been recognized by a small powerβMoonveil Clan]
[You have been credited with 50 Divine Credits]
He blinked, finally getting what he wanted. Since it was obvious he was brought to this world for the sole purpose of speeding up their progress, he figured inventing some things would naturally be rewarding for him.
["You should buy something I want to show you. Youβll need it if you want to survive smoothly."] Halo suddenly said.
"Hm? And whatβs that?"
The moment he asked, the system screen appeared before his eyes.
[Intuition - 45 Divine Credits]
"This?"
["Yes. It might not seem flashy, but it is a lot more like a precaution trait. It warns you of danger that is to happen, or things you might want to avoid."]
Hearing that explanation, Seraph was convinced. He calmly bought the Intuition skill, then immediately used it.
βWhat?!β
He looked up, stunned. Shrouding the whole clan was a cloud of red and black. It felt like an ill premonition, making Seraphβs heart quiver in his chest.
["Oh, would you look at that? Your entire clan seems about to face some crisis very soon."]
