Playboy: Medical and Martial Master-Chapter 86: Li Changqing’s Capabilities!
Li Changqing’s voice sounded somewhat familiar to Chu Youdie, as if she had heard it somewhere before, but she couldn’t place it at the moment.
"Sir, may I ask who you are?"
"You don’t need to worry about who I am," Li Changqing said over the phone. "I only have one question for you: which department are you from? And what trouble has my Ah Zhe gotten into this time?"
Even through the phone, the old man’s voice carried an indescribable sense of pressure. His sheer presence completely crushed Chu Youdie.
She gritted her teeth and said, "We’ll only know what he’s done after an investigation."
"So, you’re saying that you currently have no evidence he has committed any crime, correct?" Li Changqing pressed.
"That’s why I need to take him back for investigation now," Chu Youdie retorted.
Li Changqing chuckled dismissively, ignoring her. He turned his attention back to Sun Zhe on the phone. "Ah Zhe, what’s going on? Give me a brief explanation."
"Don’t be afraid. With Grandpa here, you can say whatever you need to."
Sun Zhe thought for a moment before explaining, "This Captain Chu suspects I’m connected to the Zhou Family fire, but I know nothing about it. She’s also trying to force me to go undercover in the Lieyang Group. If I refuse, she threatened to take me to the bureau for investigation and said it would affect my family."
"I see," Li Changqing said.
At this point, Chu Youdie cut in, "Sir, you’re at an age where you should be at home taking care of yourself. You shouldn’t get involved in these matters, lest I have to invite you in for some ’tea’ myself."
However, Li Changqing simply hung up the phone, not deigning to give her another thought.
After the call ended, Chu Youdie looked at Sun Zhe with a mocking smile. "It seems your backer isn’t very reliable."
Sun Zhe remained expressionless and said nothing. Truthfully, he wasn’t confident either. He had only heard from others that Li Changqing was a capable man in Yang City, but he had no idea just how capable. He wasn’t sure if the old man could actually resolve this situation for him. He had only called Li Changqing for help in a moment of desperation. It was clear to him that Chu Youdie was deliberately targeting him, so he had to grasp at any straw he could find.
Chu Youdie eyed him with disdain. "If you don’t have any other tricks up your sleeve, you’d better come along with me quietly."
Sun Zhe sighed softly and stood up. "I have no choice. Let’s go."
At that moment, he felt a frustrating ache settle in his gut. Am I really going to be forced to go undercover in the Lieyang Group? He naturally wanted to find Gu Lingxue, but he didn’t want to be threatened into it by someone like Chu Youdie. Yet if he refused, she would undoubtedly make his life difficult, constantly hauling him into the bureau for questioning. It might even affect Zhu Yan and Ye Qiao.
Damn it, how did I get dragged into this kind of bullshit? That woman, Chu Youdie... If I had known, I would’ve just taken care of her that night at the KTV!
Just as he was filled with despair, a phone began to ring. It was Chu Youdie’s. She took out her phone, and upon seeing the caller ID, she quickly walked to the side, turning her back to Sun Zhe.
"Hello, Chief."
An angry, middle-aged man’s voice erupted from the phone, "Chu Youdie, you get your ass back here immediately!"
"But Chief—"
"I said get back here! Right now!"
Chu Youdie gritted her teeth, ended the call, and shot a cold glare at Sun Zhe before striding toward the exit. She had no idea what had gotten into the Chief. He was the one who sent her here, and now he was demanding she return. Could it be because of that old man on the phone just now?
"Captain Chu!" Sun Zhe suddenly called out just as she reached the office door.
"Is there something else?"
Sun Zhe looked at her with a taunting expression. "Weren’t you going to take me to the bureau for some ’tea,’ Captain Chu?" He had clearly heard the man on the phone—the Chief—yelling at her to get back. In his mind, this had to be Li Changqing’s doing. It seemed Li Changqing wasn’t just a backer; he was Mount Everest!
Chu Youdie turned back, her eyes landing on Sun Zhe’s smug face. She clenched her fists in anger, overwhelmed with the urge to punch him. "Your smug face makes me sick!"
Sun Zhe, however, just smiled faintly. "But just a moment ago, weren’t you looking at me with that same disgusting, self-assured expression? I’m just learning from you, Captain Chu."
"Sun Zhe, you’ve got guts! Just you wait!"
Sun Zhe’s expression suddenly turned serious as he spoke slowly, "Honestly, Captain Chu, if you had just tried a different approach from the beginning, instead of being so high and mighty and immediately threatening my family and me, I might have actually helped you."
"..."
「A short while later.」
After Chu Youdie left, Sun Zhe sank into the office chair and let out a long, deep breath. "Phew, that was close. I was almost cornered by that damned woman."
Just then, his phone rang. It was Li Changqing.
"Hello, Grandpa Li."
"Ah Zhe, Grandpa has resolved the matter for you. I just gave that Chief a call."
"Mm, thank you, Grandpa Li. I’m sorry to have troubled you."
"We’re family, what’s with the formality? Grandpa isn’t afraid of you asking for help. The only thing I’m afraid of is you running into trouble and not calling me."
Hearing these words, a warmth spread through Sun Zhe’s heart. Li Changqing treated him so well, perhaps because of his own grandfather, Sun Fu. But regardless of the reason, it was undeniable that the old man was genuinely good to him.
"Grandpa Li, I’ll come visit you when I have time."
After ending the call, Sun Zhe got up, walked into the small adjoining room, and lay down on the bed, his mind racing as he considered his next move.
It seems I need to get closer to Leng Yueshuang. If Gu Lingxue is really hiding in the Lieyang Group and has some special connection with Leng Yueshuang, then I absolutely have to find her. Speaking of which, Chu Youdie actually gave me quite a bit of useful intel today. I was just wondering how I was going to find Gu Lingxue. Mm, to find Gu Lingxue, I’ll start with Leng Yueshuang. I’ll conquer her first!
「In the blink of an eye, it was lunchtime.」
After giving Meng Shiyang some instructions, Sun Zhe left the hospital on his electric scooter. He had taken the afternoon off because he had a lot to do.
After leaving the hospital, he went straight to the Ten Thousand Medicines Hall on Celestial Fragrance Street. He bought two portions of the medicinal herbs required to refine the Qi Passage Pill, and another portion of herbs to prepare the medicinal ointment for Leng Yueshuang.
It was already past three in the afternoon by the time he got home. The moment he walked in, he saw two pairs of long, beautiful legs clad in silk stockings propped up on the sofa. Looking closer, he saw it was Ye Qiao and Li Shiyan. The two little fairies were on the sofa, playing games on their phones and chattering away nonstop like a pair of sparrows.
Sun Zhe changed into his slippers and walked over, carrying the large bag of herbs. "What are you two up to?" he asked.
Ye Qiao only glanced up at him before refocusing on her game. "Don’t bother me, big bro. I’m in the middle of a teamfight."
Sun Zhe then turned to Li Shiyan, his gaze unintentionally drifting to the "V"-shaped bulge at the center of her ultra-short hot pants. "Shiyan, why is your phone screen black and white?" he asked curiously.
Hearing this, Ye Qiao couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter.
Li Shiyan, however, looked mortified and huffed, "I happen to like black and white. It’s none of your business!"
Ye Qiao giggled. "That’s my brother for you. Even his insults are high-class. Shiyan’s just bad at the game. She got insta-killed by the enemy mid-laner, so now all she can watch is a black-and-white ’movie’."
At her words, Li Shiyan brandished her small fist, threatening to hit Ye Qiao.
Sun Zhe smiled helplessly and changed the subject. "By the way, why are you at my place?"
Li Shiyan rolled her eyes. "Can’t I come hang out with Qiaoqiao? Besides, I also have some business with you."
"Business with me?"
Li Shiyan’s pretty face flushed as she whispered, "To treat my condition, of course. Didn’t you say last time that I still have one treatment session left?"
