Piss Off, Alpha! You Lost Me Forever-Chapter 56 Where Is She?
DAMIEN’S POV
I sat in my office staring at my phone. The cracked screen made it hard to see clearly, but I didn’t care. I’d already ordered a replacement. Right now, all that mattered was finding Sophia.
My wolf was restless inside me. He kept snarling and snapping. He’d been like this since that phone call, since we’d heard that sound in the background.
That moan that had made my vision go red.
She was with him, doing things with him - things that should only be for us.
I pulled up the tracking app on my laptop. I’d installed it on Sophia’s phone months ago without her knowledge, back when we still lived together.
It had always worked before. I could see exactly where she was at any time. But now, the screen showed an error message. "Location unavailable. Device offline or tracking disabled."
She’d found it. Somehow, she’d discovered the app and turned it off.
I tried refreshing the page. Same error. I checked the backup tracking system I’d installed in her car. That was also offline.
Either she’d found that too or she wasn’t using her car. Maybe she was in Zade’s vehicle - in his passenger seat. Or worse, lying in his hotel room while he-
My fist slammed down on the desk before I could stop myself. My wolf was howling for blood.
I pulled out my phone and switched to video call. I pressed Sophia’s name.
The phone rang a few times. For a moment, I thought she wouldn’t answer. Then the screen connected.
All I could see was the sky. I couldn’t see her face.
"What do you want, Damien?" She sounded annoyed, like I was bothering her.
"Turn the camera around. Let me see you."
"No. What do you want?"
My wolf growled inside me. “I want to know where you are. What you’re doing."
"What business of yours is it?”
She was right. Goddess, I was acting like a love sick teenager. What the hell is wrong with me?
I’m an Alpha, for goddess sake. I shouldn’t be losing control like this.
“You’re still my wife,” I said through gritted teeth. I raised my voice. "What you do is absolutely my business."
"I’m not your wife." Her voice stayed calm. That infuriated me more than if she’d yelled back. "We’re separated. We’re getting divorced. What I do is none of your business, Damien."
"Not while you’re still legally married to me. Not while Ashley still needs her mother to act with some sense of dignity and responsibility."
"Don’t you dare bring Ashley into this. Don’t you dare use our daughter to control me."
The camera moved again. I caught a glimpse of a wall but still not her face. She was deliberately keeping herself off screen. She was hiding from me.
My wolf howled at the rejection.
I took in a deep breath.
"We need to talk in person” I told her. “There are things we need to sort out.”
“Like?”
“Like custody arrangements."
"We have lawyers for that. That’s what lawyers are for."
"We need to meet. We can talk about Ashley, about what’s best for her. We have to do what’s best for our family.”
"Really? Now, you care?”
“What do you-?”
“And Damien? Stop pretending you don’t know I was reassigned to Millbrook Falls. Stop acting like you’re not the one who made it happen. I know you pulled strings. I know you got me transferred to punish me for standing up to you. So don’t insult my intelligence by playing innocent."
I was confused. What the hell was she talking about?
Before I could say another word, she hung up.
I tried calling back. It went straight to voicemail.
Fuck.
I needed to see her. My wolf was dying to see her as well.
The rest of the day dragged. I couldn’t focus on work. I couldn’t focus on anything except Sophia and where she was and who she was with. By evening, I’d made my decision. I called Jake.
"I need Sophia’s work address."
"Okay Alpha.”
The text came through five minutes later. It was too late to go there now.
I’d go there tomorrow. I’d see her face to face. I’d make her understand that she couldn’t just run away from our marriage and from me.
My wolf settled slightly at the plan. We’d see our mate tomorrow. We’d remind her where she belonged.
*
The next morning, I went to the hospital. The receptionist looked up when she saw me.
She bowed “Alpha”
"I’m looking for Dr. Sophia. I need to speak with her."
The receptionist checked her computer. "Dr. Sophia isn’t scheduled to work today”
"Where is she then?"
"I’m not sure, sir."
My wolf growled. Where the hell was she then?
I left the hospital, got back in my car and pulled up the address I already knew by heart.
Donald and Annette’s house.
It was the house where I’d picked Sophia up for our first date, where I’d asked Donald for permission to marry his daughter.
That was before everything went wrong.
Now Donald looked at me with disgust instead of respect. Now Annette couldn’t meet my eyes. Now I was the enemy instead of the son-in-law they’d once been proud of. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
I didn’t care about their opinions. I cared about seeing Sophia.
I pulled up to the house twenty minutes later. Sophia’s car wasn’t in the driveway.
I walked up to the front door and knocked.
The door opened. But it wasn’t Sophia or her parents. It was Marco, her brother. He blocked the doorway with his body. His expression was hostile.
"What do you want, Damien?" he snapped.
"I need to see Sophia. Is she here?"
"No."
"I don’t believe you. Let me in."
"You’re not coming in my parents’ house. You’re not welcome here."
"I’m her husband. I have a right-"
"You have no rights here." Marco’s voice was hard “You lost those rights when you treated my sister like garbage for years. Now get off our property."
My wolf snarled.
How dare he talk to an Alpha this way? How dare he stand between me and my mate?
I pushed forward, trying to shoulder past him. Marco pushed back.
We were about to physically fight when a small voice interrupted us.
"Daddy? Who’s at the door?"
It was Klara. The seven-year-old niece. She appeared beside Marco, looking up at me with big curious eyes. Then her expression changed. Her eyes became cold.
"You’re the mean man," she said. "The one who makes Aunt Sophia cry."
The words hit me harder than I expected. "I’m her husband."
"You’re mean.” Klara crossed her little arms. "Aunt Sophia is always sad when she talks about you. She’s always crying. Mr. Lance never makes her cry. He makes her smile."
Lance? What was she talking about?
"You need to leave." Klara stepped in front of Marco. This tiny child, barely up to my waist, was trying to protect her family from me. "Go away."
"Klara, go inside," Marco said gently.
"No. He needs to leave." Klara glared at me. "Leave.”
Her words made my chest tight. My wolf was silent. I looked past them into the house, searching for any sign of Sophia. But the living room was empty. The hallway was empty. If she was here, she was hiding.
Marco’s wife appeared then - Patricia.
She put her hand on Klara’s shoulder and guided her back inside. Then she stepped onto the porch, closing the door behind her. She looked at me with something like pity.
"She’s really not here, Damien. You’re wasting your time."
"Then where is she?" I asked.
"I don’t know. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you." Patricia crossed her arms. "You need to stop this."
"She’s my wife. I need to talk to her about our daughter."
"No, you need to control her. That’s what this is really about. Control. You caused this.”
I didn’t answer. My wolf was quiet now. Why?
Because she was right. I had broken our vows first. I had hurt Sophia in ways that couldn’t be undone.
"She deserves better than you," Patricia continued. "She deserves someone who actually loves her."
"I would never—"
"You’re doing it right now. Your marriage fell apart so completely that she’d rather hide from you than talk to you. How could a husband not know where his wife is, Damien? What does that say about your relationship?"
The words cut deep. Because she was right. I didn’t know where Sophia was.
"You’re lying," I said but I didn’t mean it. "You know where she is. You’re protecting her."
"I told you the truth. I don’t know where she is. And you know what? I’m glad I don’t. Because it means she’s finally free of you. It means she’s finally building a life where you can’t hurt her anymore."
Patricia turned and went back inside.
The door closed behind her.
