Chapter 134: Chapter 134 Finally Free

SOPHIA’S POV

I woke up at dawn after barely three hours of sleep, but my mind was crystal clear.

Today was the day.

No more waiting, no more hoping Damien would suddenly develop a conscience and do the right thing.

I was taking control.

I got dressed then grabbed the folder containing three copies of the divorce agreement.

The drive to Damien’s company felt surreal. I’d only been to his office a handful of times during our entire marriage. He’d never encouraged me to visit, never invited me to company events, never introduced me to his colleagues as anything more than "my wife" in passing.

The Moonstone Corporation building was proof og Damien’s success. Success I’d supported by managing his home, raising his child, sacrificing my own career advancement.

I parked and walked into the lobby with my head held high.

The receptionist looked up as I approached.

"Good morning. Do you have an appointment?" she asked with a small smile.

"I’m here to see Damien Stone. I’m his wife."

The smile flickered. "Mrs. Stone. I’m afraid Alpha Stone is currently in a meeting with several pack alphas. It’s quite important and he asked not to be disturbed."

"I’ll wait." I sat down in one of the leather chairs in the waiting area. "However long it takes."

The receptionist looked uncomfortable. "Mrs. Stone, the meeting could last several hours-"

"Then I’ll wait several hours." I pulled out my phone.

I sat there for forty-five minutes, watching employees come and go. All of them gave me curious looks. I wondered how many of them knew about Tiffany, how many had seen her here, been charmed by her, maybe even felt sorry for her because she was dating a "married" man.

I wondered how many of them had judged me without knowing my side of the story.

Then the elevator doors opened and Tiffany walked out.

My wolf went rigid.

Speak of the devil.

She was dressed luxuriously as always. She wore a cream-colored dress that probably cost more than my monthly salary. Her hair was perfectly styled, her makeup flawless.

The receptionist’s face lit up when she saw her. "Miss Tiffany! How lovely to see you. Alpha. Stone didn’t mention you were coming by today."

"I wanted to surprise him." Tiffany smiled. "I brought lunch from that Italian place he loves."

"How thoughtful! I’m sure he’ll be delighted. His meeting should be wrapping up any moment. Would you like me to show you to his office?"

"That would be great, thank you."

The receptionist led Tiffany toward the elevators, leaving me sitting in the lobby like a stranger.

I watched them disappear into the elevator, watched the doors close, and felt the bitter sting of being replaced.

In my own marriage, in my own life.

Even here, in Damien’s workplace, Tiffany was welcomed with warmth while I was treated like an inconvenience.

My wolf whimpered. The mate bond pulled at me painfully but I pushed the feeling down.

Just a few more hours, and this would all be over.

DAMIEN’S POV

The meeting with the visiting alphas had dragged on longer than expected.

When the meeting finally ended and the alphas left, I returned to my office to find Tiffany sitting on my couch.

"Surprise," she said with a smile, holding up a takeout bag. "I brought lunch."

"Tiffany. I didn’t know you were coming by." I loosened my tie.

"I wanted to check on you. You seemed so upset yesterday when you came home." She stood and moved closer. "Are you okay? Did you resolve things with Sophia?"

The mention of Sophia’s name made my wolf stir uncomfortably.

"It’s... complicated."

"Everything with her seems complicated." Tiffany’s voice was gentle. "Maybe that’s a sign it’s not worth the trouble anymore."

Before I could respond, my office phone buzzed. The receptionist’s voice came through the speaker.

"Alpha Stone? Your wife is here. She’s been waiting in the lobby for over an hour. Should I send her up?"

I looked at Tiffany.

"Yes," I said. "Send her up."

Tiffany sat back down on the couch. "I suppose I should go-"

"Stay." I cut in. "This won’t take long."

The truth was, I wanted Tiffany there. I wanted the buffer between me and whatever confrontation Sophia was here to have.

Coward, my wolf snarled. But I ignored it.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on my door.

"Come in." I spoke.

Sophia walked in, and I was struck by how different she looked. She looked beautiful and professional in the suit she wore.

Her eyes scanned the room, landing on Tiffany briefly before focusing on me.

"We need to talk," she said. "Alone."

"Anything you need to say, you can say in front of Tiffany." I didn’t know why I was being difficult. Maybe because seeing them in the same room highlighted every choice I’d made, every betrayal.

"Fine." Sophia’s voice was ice. She walked to my desk and placed a folder in front of me. "Sign these."

I opened the folder. Divorce papers. But not the ones my lawyer had drawn up weeks ago.

"What is this?" I asked.

"The divorce agreement. I drafted it myself since you seem incapable of moving forward." Sophia crossed her arms. "Everything’s there. Asset division, custody arrangements, child support, spousal support which I don’t want, by the way. And the mate bond renunciation ceremony, scheduled for thirty days from signing."

I read through the pages. My wolf grew more agitated with each clause. This was real. Final. No more delays, no more pretending.

"Sophia, maybe we should think about this-"

"I have thought about it for months, while you’ve been playing house with your girlfriend and her mother” her tone was flat “I’m done thinking, Damien. Sign the papers."

"But-"

"There is no ’but.’ There’s no more discussion." She leaned forward, her hands flat on my desk. "Sign. The. Papers."

I looked at Tiffany, who was watching this exchange with wide eyes. Then back at Sophia, who was staring at me with an expression I couldn’t read.

My hand shook slightly as I picked up the pen.

"Once I sign this, there’s no going back," I said.

"There was no going back the moment you brought her into our home." Sophia’s eyes flicked to Tiffany. "This is just paperwork, Damien. The marriage died a long time ago."

The words cut deeper than they should have.

Because she was right.

I’d killed our marriage slowly, through a thousand small betrayals and neglects. This signature was just the final nail in a coffin I’d been building for years.

I signed my name on all three copies.

When I finished, Sophia gathered the papers and tucked them back into the folder. She sighed in relief.

"We’re done now," she said quietly. "We have nothing more to do with each other except coordinating custody visits."

Then she walked out, closing the door quietly behind her.

The silence in my office was deafening.

I stared at the empty doorway. I felt my wolf howling inside me. The mate bond screamed in protest at what I’d just done.

"Damien?" Tiffany’s voice was soft. "Are you okay?"

Was I okay?

I’d just signed away my marriage, officially ended my bond with the woman who’d stood by me, who’d borne my child, who’d loved me even when I didn’t deserve it.

"I’m fine," I lied.

But as I sat there in my office, I wondered if I’d just made the biggest mistake of my life.

And if I had, it was too late to take it back.

The papers were signed. The marriage was over.

And Sophia was finally free of me.
