Picking Up Attributes In Martial World-Chapter 54: The Key To Opening The Gate
A tense atmosphere enveloped the hall as silence reigned on. Everyone stopped their work, paying full attention to the conflict between the two supposed Young Masters of the Ye Clan.
Ye Jun wanted to slaughter Ye Chen. The urge to rip his throat apart, cut his fingers, and do many unspeakable things to him was very strong.
That was his emotional mind speaking. It roared at him to advance and take revenge on the person who had tormented him his entire life and had even killed the precious people dear to him.
But his rational mind observed the situation first and came to a different conclusion. It soothed the emotional side and let him know how foolish this move was.
’Too many people here,’ he thought.
Especially from the Ye Clan. If he fought now, they would jump on him, and he wasn’t strong enough to face all of them alone. His original plan was to let Meihui handle the others while he fought Ye Chen.
’Change of plans,’ Ye Jun smiled as he watched his younger brother advance toward him. "I’m also eager for this fight, but are you sure you want it?"
"You really think you can get away with everything just because you know how to twist words around, huh?" Ye Chen scoffed, reaching near him. "It won’t work on me."
"Oh, yes it will," Ye Jun kept his smile, despite the fact that he wanted to ram a metal rod down Ye Chen’s throat. "Look around you, little brother. See where we are standing and who is surrounding you."
"Call me that again and I’ll make sure even hounds don’t get to eat you," Ye Chen gritted his teeth. "You’re nothing but a bastard."
"Yes, yes. Everyone knows who’s the bastard among us," Ye Jun rolled his eyes. "Now, why don’t you do what I said?"
Ye Chen frowned and looked around at all the people gathered around him. Not just any people, but his enemies. He turned back toward Ye Jun and saw his infuriating smile.
How could he not understand what Ye Jun was implying?
If they fought here, then the only ones benefiting would be the other two Clans. They might even kill all the Ye Clan members present here, effectively crippling the younger generation of the Ye Clan.
That meant there would only be two Clans left in Bright Star City.
Seeing the conflicted expression on Ye Chen’s face, Ye Jun knew he had him there. While he himself didn’t care about the clan, Ye Chen was different.
He wanted all of it, and that included the Ye Clan itself.
Ye Chen shoved Ye Jun aside and said, "Consider yourself lucky and start counting down your hours. I will kill you today."
Ye Jun straightened his robes and went back to reading the murals. If he looked at Ye Chen’s face for a bit longer, he didn’t think he would be able to hold himself back any longer.
The hall once again returned to silence as everyone went on their ways, trying to find a method to open the giant metal gates. More people joined them, the rogue participants from all over Bright Star County.
More blood pooled beneath the corridor as well.
A few minutes passed as Ye Jun read the murals, such as the one depicting the tomb owner’s kind nature and his empathy. Apparently, a woman got sick, so he went to find a cure, but by the time he returned, the woman had died, so he cried a lot.
’Am I supposed to find insights from this?’ Ye Jun wondered. ’Or maybe these are just normal murals.’
"Young Master, we’ve discovered something," a teenager from the Ye Clan said in excitement. "Both sides of the door have a depression. It’s as if a sphere is supposed to fit into it."
Others heard it and also went to check. Indeed, there were two holes on either side of the door.
"Perhaps this is the key to opening the gate," Xie Yan said, scanning the room carefully. "Did any of you encounter anything spherical in shape?"
All of them shook their heads.
"It’s in this hall," Tang Haoren, the leader of the Tang Clan’s younger generation, said thoughtfully.
"Yes," Ye Jun nodded, turning toward the statues. "The eyes are pretty spherical in shape, no?"
They didn’t need any more explanation. Two members from the Tang Clan and Ye Clan each began climbing two different statues of the warriors to take out the eyes.
’It is risky,’ Ye Jun thought, observing the statues carefully. ’There is definitely a trap here.’
Fortunately, the two youths knew that too, so they remained extra careful. When they reached the top, they looked at each other and decided to take one eye off from each statue.
None of them knew what would happen if they plucked out the statues’ eyes, especially if they removed both of them. So this was just a safer plan, even if it made little sense.
’The other possibility...’
In the next second, the eyes were plucked out, and something strange happened. The statues began to shudder, shaking the whole hall in their disturbance. Their stone-like bodies slowly began to move.
"Knew this would happen," Ye Jun cursed quietly. "Stone statues in a dungeon and they don’t come alive? Impossible!"
As everyone prepared for battle or for escaping this tomb, the two statues that lost their eyes turned toward their missing eyes. The two young men were still holding onto them.
Their one remaining eye turned deep red as an immolating beam shot out from them and landed on the two young men.
All watched in dread as the beam annihilated both of them in a single attack. They couldn’t even let out a scream before they were completely purged from the world.
The Clans lost two of their geniuses just like that.
Ye Jun was ready to leave, as he knew there were no chances of winning against the statues, just like everyone else. But that was when one eyeball rolled over to a pair of rogue participants... and it touched their feet.
The next moment, the hall was brightened again by the immolating beam as two more people were vaporized from this world.
