Chapter 995: Crouching Corpse, Hidden Serpent

Sonnenträger’s plan to pour nearly everything he had left into a single strike had its merits, after all, if Loimos could just recover so easily from any and all attacks, then the only remaining option would be to destroyed the pure undead into a single strike, not leaving him any room to recover.

However, the skeleton was not oblivious to what was happening, clearly understanding the intentions of his adversary, showcasing multiple manners in which he could dodge and move out of the way, trying to sow doubt into hero’s mind, silently attempting to make him question the validity of his plan by demonstrating how easily that one blow could be avoided or mitigated.

But Sonnenträger was unshaken, whether Loimos was trying to dissuade him because the plan was sound and could work out, or simply as diversion tactic to ensure that he did go through with it and failed- Whatever was the truth, did not matter, the golden one did not care for the pure undead’s endless mind tricks or attempts at misdirection, he was not going to be influenced, this was the only plan that made sense, so he was going to go for it, no matter what.

Floating in the air, appearing like a golden divinity as he shone brightly, Sonnenträger’s dark, copper red hair was thrown to the sides chaotically by the strong winds, his green eyes, green like no other green that existed, locked onto the black serpent- Onto the beast’s deep, dark purple eyes, a purple like no other purple in existence.

Pushing against the air, he soared downward at Loimos, narrowly avoiding all manners of spells and attacks thrown at him, preparing to deliver the most powerful Golden Glow that he had ever manifested, but as per usual, the undead did not allow for him to do so.

"STOP" empowered words of death tongue came slamming into him, forcing him to do as ordered, and by the same occasion, forcing him to divert his gold toward breaking free of the absolute command, in the next instant, the gigantic dark serpent turned into dark lightning, going right through the golden one, inflicting severe shock leading to traces of necrosis manifesting upon his flesh, but only for an instant, shining with gold, all traces of damage vanished as he hastily moved out of the way countless spikes of bones raining down from the sky, as one flew by, Sonnenträger took footing upon it, using it to suddenly launched himself straight the snake.

He went for an immediate uppercut, but seeing the scales shift, preparing to detach themselves to disperse the gold that would be poured into the main body, the hero delivered a strike but without a Golden Glow, but the strength was still enough to launch the serpent’s head upward.

Manifesting solid platforms out of golden energy, Sonnenträger used them to move swiftly, basically slinging himself from one to the other without pause, moving far faster this way than by simply flying.

He hoped to be able to pin down Loimos with his ultimate Golden Glow at last, but like an eel, the champion of the empire simply seemed impossible to get a hold of, all of the serpent’s scales suddenly moved up, allowing for some blood mist to be ejected from beneath them. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"Oh no, you are not slipping away again" gold descended into a straight line through the red mist, unexpectedly, Sonnenträger found Loimos immediately, he barely even moved from where he had been moments ago.

Simply twisting his body out of the way as his maw opened up, a swift figure jumping out from within and tackling into the hero in mid-air, more a split moment, the golden one thought that Loimos had finally abandoned his serpentine body, but no, this was something else.

Grabbing and squeezing Sonnenträger’s throat was a large figure resembling a red a demon, which was easily recognised as the harbinger of war, it had been a little while since Loimos had last manifested the four horsemen, but this time, they were further empowered to a ridiculous amount, wielding their apocalyptic aspect with overwhelming strength and intensity.

Though War lacked his horse, and the signature greatsword remained upon his back, it did not do much to make him less threatening, the manifestation of war itself struck the hero in the face, crooking the latter’s nose and drawing blood with the direct hit.

Using both hands, Sonnenträger sliced off both of War’s arms, only to watch as the harbinger was able to resist the gold and even regrow his limbs, clearly, Loimos had poured a lot into this.

In the next instant, the copper-haired man was forced to dodge as a hail of arrow befell him, the harbinger of conquest joining the fray, somehow just standing in mid-air, just like War was.

The dark serpent had retreated into the red mist as the other two harbingers made their presence known, Famine cursing Sonnenträger with hunger, whilst Pestilence unleashed a rain of plagues.

"Trying to buy time, are we?" understanding that Loimos was likely to dive back into the oceanic depths to do who knows what, the hero had to be quick and decisive if he wanted to stop the undead from doing as he wished.

Bursting with gold, his fist crashed right into War’s skull, shattering it in a single blow as the following gold tore the rest of his body apart, then, kicking off the harbinger’s chest before it disappeared, he went straight for Conquest, destroying his bow and arms to get to the chest, blasting a hole straight through the second harbinger.

Battling through the intensifying starvation and piling diseases, the hero bisected Famine with a kick, and in the same motion, crushed Pestilence’s head, defeating all four heralds of the apocalypse in just a few seconds.

Indeed, the apocalypse may be a world-ending event, but the world would not end without Sonnenträger’s approval, even just powerful beings who seemed like nothing but bugs in the face of his seemingly endless might.

With a few claps of his palms, he dispersed the red mist, revealing that Loimos was indeed nowhere to be seen.

The hero’s eyes shot wide open as he noticed something was happening- The four harbingers, instead of being destroyed, were beginning to meld their essences together into one.

Instantly, the golden hero lunged, only to realise as he was about to land a strike, that he had been mistaken, it was naught but smoke and mirrors, but caught in the motion, he fell directly into the undead’s trap.

And out of thin air, the black serpent revealed himself to have been here all along, simply immobile and utterly invisible, his horrific jaw came shut onto Sonnenträger, the sound of the crushing maw echoing far across the reaches of the ocean.
