700: Hellish

Irlanx Xacobus’s abilities were versatile, but very simple at their core, the golden chains could be shaped into many forms, their durability and attack power dependent on just how much were used to fashion these objects, but the main point of it all was the dust they would break down into or flake off when in contact with something, granting him control over whatever was hit, an ability that was effective against pretty much every being that had the ability to move.

Unfortunately, the soul flame of Alistel tore all dust apart, and he already knew from their previous confrontation years back that even if it landed, it would still be burnt away anyways, so unless he could pin her down and get the dust onto her brain to stop her from burning it off, even then, the king of the restless felt that it wouldn’t work out.

As for the black flies, they too could be condensed and merged together for more results, but since they couldn’t get stronger than him unless he had an enormous amount of them and some time to spare, they could not contend with the living, and fighting alongside a fly created from all of those currently available to him wouldn’t go well either, as her flames easily allow for Alistel to deal with groups.

The basics of the ability was similar to the golden dust, only that when a fly ate through something, it would multiply proportionally to the volume or quality of what was devoured, which would typically lead to the target being feasted upon entirely.

Neither of his abilities had what was necessary to face against the dire power of Alistel’s flames, not only were they simply tyrannical in general, but being a restless, Xacobus overflowed with soul energy like all inhabitants of the realm, as such, the manifestation of his abilities, extensions of himself, also overflowed with it, making them especially vulnerable to the already overwhelming flames, as the energy would be ignited, serving as prime kindling, exactly ow Xaltar would slay livings.

Irlanx was also a powerful close-quarters warrior, skilled in many types of weaponry and hand-to-hand combat, be it both whilst floating or with his two feet on the ground, but it didn’t mean much against a person who was all about close-quarters.

“Mmh… Yes, that is exactly what I like… You make my bones tingle and click, Alistel”

With these rather evocative words, he lowered himself to the ground, and grabbed his ample dark robes and pull them off his body, throwing it to the side where it was entirely consumed by the inferno that raged all around him, the chains securing his crown atop the king’s head clattered for the smallest of moments.

What laid beneath the cloak wasn’t a bare skeleton, as Alistel had feared for a moment, but a most refined, military-looking dark suit that more closely followed the shape of his body, which appeared very strange to look at, almost uncanny as the image of Irlanx Xacobus was always associated with an ample cloak that covered the entire body and which fluttered around as he floated.

So seeing him on the ground, dressed in this manner was a most bizarre sight that even his generals had never gotten to witness before.

It really showed how imposing he was even as nothing but bones, although shorter than Alistel, it was now obvious that his bones were thick, the gashes giving way onto the golden within him truly seemed like deep scars, that yet failed to put the integrity of his body in jeopardy.

“My kind of woman- Is the type that wants to tear me apart, what else could be more satisfying than overcoming this issue?”

“It’s high time you stop going on about whatever and just fight”

“There is no impact if I try to seduce you afterwards, is there?

There is nothing impressive about monologuing outside of combat, I have been spouting words without stopping and yet, you aren’t attacking me unless I say something outrageous, why is that?

Because I am just that good at speaking!” laughing as his hollow sockets and mouth erupted with golden flames, he held his right hand forward, condensing all of his power into a single point, golds chains manifesting and all available flies rushing in, all melding together into one and forming into the shape of a longsword with a wide blade.

This weapon was unlike any other the golden lord had demonstrated before, the entirety of it was simultaneously made of his gold and flies, its luxurious surface shimmering with dark red and darkening every now and then, the blade trembling as though the flies were still buzzing within.

Taking up a most unusual stance, with his right hand gripping the hilt whilst the left was held forth, arm straight and slightly pointing upward at the sky with all five fingers spread apart, the hand bent off to the side as the end of the blade came to rest against its back, tip pointed at the living.

Alistel raised an eyebrow and formed a ferocious grin as she could feel the dire danger this weapon was emitting, and she also took up a combat stance, her lengthy sword still engulfed in flames.

Irlanx had no name or appellation to call this blade with, at least he used to not have such a thing until he demonstrated it to Loimos, who told him that what he had achieved this blade was equivalent to what he called ‘transcend’ and was on the verge of becoming something even greater.

Although the words, vertex, apex and transcend were in usage to describe what mages did with energy, it seemed like Loimos considered it accurate to use these terms for innate abilities as well.

Xacobus still didn’t quite understand the significance of that, as he had no knowledge of these terms or of free energy manipulation, the ways of power in usage here didn’t allow for such liberties, but anyhow, he had come up with this after his first fight with Alistel, like how she had seemingly further mastered her soul weapon and its steps in a way that no one had ever before her, the restless king mastered and fused his two innate abilities into creating a blade that would allow him to contend with anyone in close-quarters.

In an instant, he left the strange stance he had naturally assumed and lunged forward in a swift motion, rapidly striking twice with downward strikes aimed at the living’s skulls, both strikes were parried before Alistel reciprocated with a swing, the two destructive swords grinding against one another.

As the flames attempted to break down the longsword, the flames themselves turned golden and seemed to wither in part, neither of the two sides had the advantage, both of their weapons just barely managing to scratch the other as they constantly recovered.

The combatants pushed one another away.

Alistel raised her blade up, and in the blink of an eye, each and every bit of the blue flames that had spread far and wide disappeared.

“Hell”

“Is this the new second step?” asked the skeleton, blade directed at Alistel as its side rested against his left forearm.

“Indeed”

“That looks exactly like your regular blade however”

“Perhaps we should check if feels like my regular sword, then”

“Gladly”

Clashing again, and it was like the entire realm began to boil.
