Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 413: Seeing Ahead
"Reporting in, our first battle was a success, we have been able of setting up a clear idea and concept of the strength of their soldiers, archers, knights, as well as that of Aramap, with these pieces of information, as well as they style of fighting, we will be able of gearing the troops to properly dissect them next time" down on one knee, helm held under his arm, Ourlst made his report to Loimos.
"Do not forget that they too have earned information from this battle, act and make your decisions with this in mind" the left hand nodded, his leader was going through written reports as well, reading through each entry in detail.
This made Ourlst a bit nervous, those reports were those of the troops he had been trusted with, he had read them prior and already made his decisions, if they were unfit or poor in nature, his general would not ignore it.
He had been entrusted with the mission of dealing with the south, which was the strongest force on Belliste, whilst Horhir had been given a more covert one, more akin to coordination of pure espionage and scouting, the right hand dealt with the other territories from the shadows, both of the knights were given very important tasks, they had to prove themselves, put in place the many teachings they had received from Loimos in a most real environment, a true continent and this time, their leader would not hold their hands.
Thankfully, nothing must have been egregious as the champion did not say anything, passing the reports off to someone else.
"Tell me, based on your experience with Aramap, do you think you could defeat him?" Ourlst would have gulped with his oesophagus was not decayed beyond belief, when Loimos started to ask question to you, it was rarely a good sign, in fact, if he ever showed and began discussing with you about something that did not seem of importance, or that he definitely knew already, it meant business, something was happening and you better think about your answer, and give in little time.
"Although I have advantages over him, the second-in-command of the south possesses a sharp mind, and great battle senses, moreover, were he to decide to retreat, I strongly believe that I would not be capable of stopping him, were we in neutral terrain…" maintaining perfect composure, he didn’t even bother to check for Loimos’s reaction, already aware that nothing was to be learned from that.
"I see"
"What about Alisart Cleavster, how would you guess his strength based on that of his best knight?" Loimos followed with another question.
"The lowest estimate I would be comfortable going with is that the warking would be at least twice as strong, but from what I have seen of this living, he only carries around a greatsword, his style of combat would be much different to approach… To be safe however, I assume that he is an adversary far stronger than this, normally, if he joined a fight, I would focus troops on him until death, but to maintain our respectable and righteous facade, I must grant him with a honourable duel-" Ourlst was ready to elaborate some more on other details, but Loimos slightly raised his hand, meaning that enough had been said.
"You did a good job for this first battle, you severely limited your options despite the opposition and lost few troops, all of which did not have to be brought back by The Graveyard, and were instead restored right after"
"I don’t deserve such praise, my lord, it is thanks to the priests and monks of the church of death, their blessings are incredibly advanced even as their holy prayers are still in their budding stages" indeed, despite Loimos denying assistance from the church, he himself had taught and allowed many believers to perfect their understanding, keeping the church with all of its members, only adding more by training undeads from the moment of their natural creation.
The missionaries were but one part of the worshippers, although they were definitely the loudest, the priests and such did much work behind the scenes, having developed prayers, gospel and miracles to aid in the war efforts, using tales of The Graveyard to allow defeated undeads to rise again immediately was one of their best creations.
"Go on as per your vision, remember to coordinate with Horhir" and with these words from his general, Ourlst returned to his functions beyond the barrier.
The platform outside said barrier had seen much change since its creation, the architects were already fellows with lots of imagination and a love for melding building styles together, be it fluidly or not, but they had really turned this place into a hub of its own, truly extending the reaches of the undead empire all the way here, going especially crazy when Loimos called for the minor lords to come.
There were seven of them, and Loimos still remained their general even now, but they were not a part of the vanguard, he had not called for them to help with Belliste, with his own crafted forces busy on the continent itself, Loimos had saw fit to get the minor lords some action as well, they shouldn’t be just standing around without anything to do.
All were candidates to become gravelords, they needed to actively kill and work to graduate from this title, to become a gravelord was not just a matter of strength, in fact, one might say that it had nothing to do with strength, at least, the requirement to be a gravelord was not power itself, but it was to be chosen by death, and be granted one of its avatars.
Each gravelord had one, King Nitok had two, Loimos and the minor lords, had none of them, to carry one upon their back would be what meant that they were bonafide lords, in Loimos’s case, it was a bit more complicated.
He was not meant to be a gravelord.
In the pursuit of acknowledgement, Loimos directed each of them to distinguish themselves by leading their personal forces to take over islands near Belliste, Poitirus would still be handling anything that was in water.
Loimos had already scouted the area and knew what they would be facing, but of course, he kept his jaw sealed about that.

The minor lords were powerful undeads, and although they had soldiers of their own, they had very few, as such, their first tasks was to take a page out of their general’s book and learn to train freshly born undeads, Loimos was leader of the vanguard, and he knew very well that he would quickly have to leave everything to his soldiers and knights as the number of fronts, and the distance in between them would increase drastically.
His vanguard had to be supplemented with elite forces led by the minor lords.
