The Dauntless exited hyperspace along with the rest of the strike force that had been sent out to eliminate the energy lifeforms before they became a major threat.

Their numbers were fewer than what they had initially set out with, but their mission had been successful.

"You’re all now free to go about your business as you please. The Alliance Police will make sure to have all of your rewards sent to the Mercenary Association within the next three days. And for those that went above and beyond to prove their valor, expect to receive special accolades." Captain Ais said to every mercenary that had been temporarily under his command.

Now that their contract was over, all of the mercenaries headed off to their own desired station in the system.

Most went to Yuson Prime or Yuson II, but a few headed off to smaller and less populated outposts scattered throughout the system.

Avery naturally set a course for his home. The place he had been raised since he was born, and where his parents were waiting for him.

"Don’t worry, everything will be fine. I’m sure that good news is waiting for you." Kasandra said reassuringly. She had noticed that Avery was looking nervous.

His father’s life was up in the air. While incredibly unlikely there was a chance that the regenerative treatments failed, and he would soon pass away.

"You’re right. I can’t let myself think the worst. Especially since I’m the one that told my mother not to worry."

After only a few minutes of light speed travel, they reached the vicinity of Yuson II and sent a docking request.

However, as they were already within range of the station’s internal communication network, Avery sent a transmission to his mother to inform her that he had returned.

Not even a minute later, he found that she was calling him.

"Avery, I’m so glad to see you alive! I’d heard that there were casualties in the battle with those space monsters you went to fight, and I was afraid something might have happened to you."

Immediately his mother started going on about how worried she was about him. Wishing that he would send her a hyperspace transmission earlier so that she did not have to wonder whether he was okay or not.

"I get it mom. I’ll make sure to keep you updated in the future. I suppose a part of me still thinks like I need to be saving every Krenin I can. But the cost of a few hyperspace messages isn’t too much for me now. I promise to keep in touch going forward." Avery said to pacify his concerned mother.

Once he had gotten her to calm down, he finally brought up the topic of his father. From the way his mother was acting, he figured it went well, but he wanted to know for sure.

"Oh, that’s right. You left right as he was being treated. Well, it went perfectly. He’s still resting in recovery, but the doctor said his lungs and spine will be as good as new. After a month of physical therapy, he should be able to walk again without any assistance."

There were some tears in Avery’s mother’s eyes as she relayed the good news to him. Causing Avery’s own eyes to get a bit watery.

Sitting next to him, Kasandra lovingly rubbed him on the shoulder and gave him a bright smile. Sharing in the happiness of his own good fortune.

"Ah, mom, that reminds me. I’ve got someone I want you to meet. Once we’ve docked, I’ll introduce you to my first and only crewmember."

Obviously, his mother was both surprised and excited to hear that her son had someone to rely on when he was out traversing space and fighting dangerous enemies.

"It’s been so long since we’ve had any guests over. Oh, I’m going to need to tidy up. And should I go out and buy some better food capsules."

Avery’s mother began to fret on the other end of the line as she started busily rushing around to prepare for Kasandra’s arrival.

Seeing that she was going to be making herself busy for a bit, Avery ended the call. It would not be too much longer until they were face to face again anyway.

"She seems sweet. I can’t wait to meet her. But are you going to just introduce me as a member of your crew, or something more." Kasandra said while pouting cutely.

"Don’t worry. Of course I plan on telling her about us. I simply wanted to do it in person than over a call. Things would have become far more chaotic had I."

Nodding her head at Avery’s response, Kasandra leaned over and gave him a slight kiss on the cheek.

Not long after, they received permission to enter the colony’s public hanger and allowed the ship’s auto docker to bring them in.

"Do you think this will be nice enough?"

From the moment they had landed, Kasandra had put on several different outfits and asked for Avery’s opinion on them.

Naturally, he had told her that everything she had tried on so far looked nice, but she insisted that she had to make the right first impression with his mother.

Eventually, she decided on a light blue blouse and white skirt. Though she still had a laser pistol attached to a belt at her waist which looked slightly out of place in her more casual clothing.

After a quick trip on the electromagnetic tram and a short walk, the two of them were standing just outside the building his parents lived in.

Using the panel outside, Avery registered Kasandra as his guests, and once the system finished a background check on her, they were allowed in.

"This place is pretty nice, and it’s got good security." Kasandra said approvingly.

While they were inside, they had been forced to leave their weapons in a secure locker and only those that were approved could enter.

"Yeah, its safe, but its pricey, and the rooms are a bit small. Still, it’s not a bad place to live." Avery said as they entered the elevator.

A short while later, they were let off on the thirteenth floor where his parents’ apartment was located.

With familiarity, Avery walked to the nineth door on the floor and placed his hand on the panel outside of it.

As soon as it confirmed his identity, the door slid open with an audible whoosh. Revealing the inside of his parents’ home.
