"Those are police uniforms for you." Avery marveled.

Despite each of the fake officers having been shot three times each, they had managed to stay on their feet and not drop their weapons.

The uniforms they were wearing were a decade out of date, but they still incorporated laser resistant fibers that had blocked most of the damage from Avery and his companion’s fire. Though that was also because their laser pistols were set to non-lethal outputs.

Still, despite the two men’s resilience, the fight was already decided. Avery and Kaiden had their guns leveled directly at the two police impersonators’ faces. Even a weaker blast would cause immense pain and serious damage that would require extensive treatment.

"I’d drop those if I were you?" Ezra said, unleashing the full intimidation of his large size and battle experience.

Most normal people would buckle under such immense pressure, but the two men were professionals.

"Since you’ve stuck you neck out for him, I’m sure you want to save this Baccigan. If you don’t lower your weapons and let us go, I’ll snap his neck."

With no other way out, the man holding Vi’ivando’s nephew tighten his grip around his captive’s neck and used him as a hostage.

This might have deterred some people, yet Avery simply glanced towards Kaiden and nodded his head.

An instant laser, a single red beam flashed and the already beaten idiot making threats was struck directly in the face by a searing laser.

Needless to say, he could no longer keep his grip on his captive’s throat and let go.

Vi’ivando’s nephew immediately began falling to the ground, but Ezra moved unbelievably swiftly and caught the poor guy before he ate a painful fall.

The remining fake officer kept completely still and had a nervous sweat pouring down his brow.

Avery still had his laser pistoled pointed at the guy’s face, and his partner screaming and writhing on the ground next to him served as a perfect example of what fate awaited him if he resisted further.

With no other choice, the man dropped his weapon and put his hands up. If he was beaten anyway, there was no reason to continue fighting back if it just meant more pain for him.

"Seems that the guy they were chasing is passed out." Ezra said, holding the Baccigan in his hands.

It was a bit surreal to see someone of a large race holding a member of one of the smallest species in the Alliance in his hands. The poor kid that had been being chased around fit in Ezra’s palm like a plush toy.

Only a few seconds later did Avery and his companions here the sound of sirens approaching. There had been several other people walking on the same road as them, and while everyone had run off when lasers started flying, someone must have contacted the police.

Soon a floating vehicle that had an ovular shape that had green and yellow flashing lights on its exterior came flying into the area.

The moment it landed, six officers wearing body armor and wielding laser rifles jumped out.

Since the cavalry had arrived, Avery and his team put their weapons away and let them take over.

There was an extreme air of hostility coming from the officers due to what appeared to be a group of five armed mercenaries attacking their colleagues.

Attempting to capitalize on this, the remaining kidnapper shouted out, "Arrest them. They’ve assaulted two officers and were helping a criminal to escape."

Avery rolled his eyes at this and slowly turned towards the police that had moved to surround them.

Pinned on his jacket was the Alliance Silver Cross of Heroism. Something that immediately caught the eye of the officer in charge.

"I understand what this situation looks like. But these two men are imposters. As a recipient of the Silver Cross, I would never knowingly attack true members of the Alliance Police. If you just allow us to explain, we’ll clear everything up." Avery said confidently.

"No! Don’t listen to them. They’re just trying to confuse all of you."

Frantically the man tried to get the officers to detain Avery, Kasandra, Jasmine, Ezra, and Kaiden without giving them a chance to speak.

And this might have worked if it were not for the prestigious awards that both Avery and Ezra had prominently displayed. The police here knew just how difficult it was to obtain such accolades, and that the Alliance did not give them out to those that were untrustworthy.

"If you just look more closely at their uniforms and badges, I’m sure the discrepancies will become apparent." Jasmine interjected.

With the nod of his head, the officer in charge sent over three of his men to check on the two guys.

It did not take long for them to realize that what Jasmine had told them was correct.

The two supposed officers possessed old uniforms and badges that were no longer in circulation. Without a doubt they were imposters.

"Restrain them. We can’t abide by people impersonating members of the police."

Immediately the two men were put in handcuffs and dragged over to the police vehicle and put into the holding cell onboard it. They would be going away for a long time for their crimes.

"This might be inconvenient for you, but would you mind accompanying us back to the station so that we can take your statements?" The sergeant in charge asked.

Obviously, this was a request that they could hardly refuse. Doing so would simply antagonize the police that had just come and wrapped things up. Plus, they were headed to the station anyway to receive the rewards for the bounties they had collected.

Nodding his head, Avery agreed, and he and his team waited for around a minute for another police vehicle to come and pick them up.

On the way to the station, Sergeant Farash asked them about the situation.

"We don’t know why, but they were after him." Avery said, looking towards the still unconscious Baccigan sat up in one of the seats.

"I see. I suppose that we’ll need to wait until he wakes up. For now, at least, those two men will be charged with impersonating members of the Alliance Police. Once we get the full story, we’ll tact on whatever other crimes they committed."
