Chapter 25: 25 He goes to the town (1)_1

“I hunted some game today, didn’t I?

I want to sell it in town and exchange it for some copper and silver coins.

Ye-ge knows the way; he can go with me,” Nan Feng said.

“Oh,” hearing that Ye-ge was going too, Nan Quanyou felt a little more at ease: “That’s fine, I heard Ye-ge goes to town often.

But you have to stick close to him, don’t run around everywhere.

The town is crowded, and it’s easy to get lost.”

“Alright, I know, I promise to return before dark.”

The conversation essentially ended there, but Nan Quanyou seemed somewhat hesitant.

Nan Feng had gotten so close to Ye-ge; perhaps she had actually developed feelings for him. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

But this girl seemed to know nothing about that.

He wanted to give her some advice, but didn’t know how to start.

After all, it’s difficult for a grown man to discuss affairs of a young girl’s heart.

If only her mother was still around.

After eating, Nan Feng put the water boiled with pheasant into a pot.

This was chicken soup, which could be used to cook wild vegetables the next morning.

Having cleaned the pot, she began to boil water again.

In her previous life, she was a cleanliness freak.

She would never go to bed without washing off the sweat; and of course, she kept this habit in this life too.

The villagers bathed by soaking themselves in a large wooden tub, and Nan Feng was no exception.

However, she believed this practice had to change due to it wasting water and fetching water being particularly laborious.

After bathing, and washing her hair, and letting it dry, only then did Nan Feng lie down in bed.

She had had a tiring day; she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Perhaps because she had made a promise with Ye-ge, Nan Feng woke particularly early the next day.

She rose as soon as the sky brightened.

Nan Quanyou was also up, brushing his teeth with a tender willow branch in the yard, while watching Nan Feng’s every move.

Nan Feng brushed her teeth and put on clean clothes.

Suddenly, as she was changing her clothes, she hesitated for a moment.

She only had those few sets of clothes which neither fit her properly nor were free of patches.

Of course, few villagers had good clothes to wear, so she hadn’t minded much in the past few days.

But today, suddenly, she started caring about her image.

Was it because…she was going out alone with Ye-ge today?

In the end, she chose to wear a top with small flowers on it, along with a pair of blue pants.

She tied her hair into two big braids, then packed the game and headed out.

They had originally planned to meet at the entrance of the village, but not far into her journey, Nan Feng saw Ye-ge’s tall, hunchback figure.

The sun was barely up, yet there was Ye-ge, standing by the eaves, a large straw hat on his shoulders, his shadow stretched long by the sun.

She had no idea how long he had been waiting there, but her heart thumped at the sight of him.

Before Nan Feng could greet him, Ye-ge suddenly turned around.

He seemed exceptionally alert; she had no idea how he had developed such a skill–she, despite her Special Agent training, found herself in awe.

“Good morning, Ye-ge,” Nan Feng greeted him first.

Ye-ge only slightly nodded his head, came over, and took the hemp bag off of Nan Feng’s shoulder.

“I thought you’d be waiting for me at the entrance of the village,” Nan Feng said.

“I didn’t expect you to be here.”

“I was worried that you wouldn’t be able to carry so much stuff,” Ye-ge replied.

He tested the weight of the hemp bag, put it on his shoulder, then said, “It’s not early anymore; we should start heading out.”

Nan Feng hurriedly followed him, walking side by side with Ye-ge.

“How far is the town from here?” Nan Feng asked.

“Twenty li,” Ye-ge replied.

“Twenty li…” Nan Feng clearly didn’t know how far that was; after all, in her era, distance was measured in kilometers.

Seeing Nan Feng’s puzzled expression, Ye-ge decided to further explain: “Twenty li is roughly one hour’s walk.”

“One hour” was two hours for Nan Feng.

She understood that with Ye-ge’s current pace, it was about ten kilometers or so.

This…was quite far, wasn’t it?

And they had to walk there.
