Chapter 1810: Divorce premonition

Meanwhile, in the White House of Anteca...

Men of high standing, handpicked by the president to join him in this meeting, sat quietly in a conference room. Silence was the only thing they could hear, all eyes on the hologram screen in the middle, which was receiving the feed from Prime Group that was happening on the island.

Their faces were grim as they had been receiving reports from everywhere—evidence to catch the corruption in their country.

"At least, by now, we know who to serve a warrant," the Military General muttered to the president, nodding. "Just say the word, sir. Even though this falls outside of Homeland Security’s jurisdiction, we can step in with these special circumstances."

The president let out a deep sigh, thinking about Mint, who had been bothering him lately. Then, Hugo Bennet had been pestering his commander—the Chief Military General—until the man started bothering the president. Not just that, but the previous minister of defense also started calling him, bringing up something he had heard from one of the former minister’s soldiers.

The former soldier’s name? Charles Bennet.

So, eventually, the president approved this mission, but Mint had asked him for a favor: to take necessary action once she was able to prove the people involved in coveting the power and resources of Anteca.

And as someone who sat in the highest position in the country, he considered it. He couldn’t leave his position with all these people trying to control their motherland—at least, not until the next presidential election.

"Follow the protocol and due process," Mr. President finally spoke. "Once it’s ready, I’ll give you a signal to execute them."

With that, all the people in the conference room nodded in understanding. After all, they had seen enough to know that an organization as huge as this was eyeing Anteca. To make it worse, it was obvious there were a few from some of their agencies who had been bribed for this.

"This is going to be humiliating and a large scandal," the president remarked. "However, it is necessary for the country and the people."

"Yes, Mr. President."

Back on the Island...

"Are you sure those are from your people?" Ralph, seated in the back of the truck, watched as the drone moved away from their vehicle.

Penny didn’t answer immediately and simply stared at it, blinking almost innocently.

"Mhm," she hummed. "The question is, whether they got the message or not." freewēbnoveℓ.com

After all, Penny’s only message when she pointed at the device was that she was telling them her device was broken. So, there was no way for her to communicate with them.

The members of the Shadow Order looked at each other before their eyes fell on Penny’s. Their plan was simple: to crash into the mansion’s entrance and start wreaking havoc. Starting the chaos would give others—Slater and the hostages—time to escape.

This plan was Slater’s idea, which was quite dangerous.

Ralph studied Penny’s side profile as she leaned back and closed her eyes. He then quietly cast the others a look before they all set their eyes back on Penny.

"Thank you," Ralph expressed, making Penny open her eyes. "And to your brother, Slater, thank you."

Her brows arched, looking back at him as she blinked. "Why are you thanking me?"

"You were risking your life to help us, that is why," he explained. "There were plenty of other ways to infiltrate the mansion, and yet, you were choosing to stay in the spotlight, in the most dangerous spot."

"We appreciate it," he added while the rest nodded. "Very much so."

"I’m not risking my life to help you, I’m risking my life because it’s necessary and because I want to live a long life with the people I love. Quite an irony, right?" she shrugged indifferently. "Whether I meet you or not, I’m still doing what I’m going to do just because Nathalie Zorken just wouldn’t leave my husband alone."

She blinked. "I’m kind of the jealous type, you know?"

Everyone just stared at her while she cocked her head back. As she did, she pulled out something from her suit that she had found in the cabin.

"My head’s killing me," she muttered, taking out a small bottle of liquor she got from the cabin. Without warning, she opened it and chugged it all down.

Penny gagged at the amount of alcohol she chugged, but she swallowed it all down. Her face twisted in an ugly way while the others who were watching just stared at her in slight disbelief.

"I don’t think you should be drinking," said Ralph. "Carelessness is a disease, and one of the things we believe is that complacency is fatal. This is not the time for drinking."

Penny hissed, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. "My head’s killing me, and..." she trailed off, her vision blurring a bit. "... have you ever had an issue in the past that is becoming an issue in the present?"

"Huh?"

"You see, I have had this issue in the past, and somehow, the person who wants to fix that issue is my past self!" she explained. "This is my last chance to get rid of her. Maybe, if she were able to resolve this, she would be able to rest in peace."

All the men blinked in confusion, just staring at Penny with knitted brows. They couldn’t understand what she was saying, but it seemed she was going to pass out.

"Miss Penny?" Ralph called out a bit and reached out to her. "Are you alright—?"

Thanks to his fast reflexes, he caught Penny’s forehead before she fell. The other person grabbed her other side to keep her from hitting herself.

For a moment, complete silence fell on them as they exchanged confused looks. After that, their eyes landed on her again.

"She passed out," one of the members blurted out. "What did she drink?"

At the same time, the small bottle rolled from Penny’s hand to the other. When the man picked it up, he gazed at it and turned to the others.

He raised the small bottle to show them the brand. "It’s whiskey."

"But isn’t that a little light?" another one wondered. "A full bottle of that single can’t even fill an entire glass."

For them, drinking was no problem, and that mini bottle might be enough to fix one’s nerves. It was why no one really stopped Penny, thinking she had drunk it to calm down. Ralph only brought it up out of concern.

And yet, Penny passed out with just one shot?

All of them turned to Penny, shaking their heads.

"I’ve seen lightweights, but she is featherlight," one commented, making others agree with a nod.

While holding Penny’s forehead, everyone once again fell silent as they gazed at her.

"What are we going to tell her company?" one of them wondered, thinking that Shawn was driving with a few of their members in the front. "Should we just... wake her up?"

Just as the question slipped out of his mouth, Penny’s back started trembling as a muffled laugh escaped her.

"Huh?" their brows knitted, eyes back to her.

Penny just laughed to herself, her forehead still resting on Ralph’s palm, with her other shoulder held by another. The next second, all they heard was,

"I... am getting a divorce, I guess." She dramatically looked up and wiped her invisible tears, clutching her chest. "Until now, I haven’t gotten my cheeseburgers. He doesn’t love me."

Then, she started humming a tune and started singing, "How do you heal a broken heart~"

The men with her just stared at her, tilting their heads a bit. There was only one thing that was in their mind at the moment.

’Is she... is she alright?’
