Pampered by My Secret Husband-Chapter 480 - 482: The Maniac’s Enemy
"We understand, Young Master Guillen."
Everything here was desolate, as deserted as a place forgotten by man.
Looking at these ruins, William Guillen found it laughable. To think such a deliberate fire could erase the entire past? Truly laughable. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
William Guillen mused that Thomas Shannon had truly fallen hard this time. Fallen for that little maniac.
Now, as a man, he was helping the little maniac investigate her background. To be more precise, he was looking for the little maniac’s enemies.
Who was it that ruined her face?
Who was it that ruined her voice?
And who was so utterly deranged as to lock her up in an asylum, inject her daily with sedatives, making her life a living hell yet unable to escape her cage?
How deep must the hatred be to treat a woman so cruelly, instead of just giving her a swift end?
William Guillen started to walk into the ruins but was stopped by the man in black. "Young Master Guillen, it’s dangerous inside."
"It’s alright, I’ll go have a look."
The man in black, uneasy about him going in alone, followed him.
Looking at the burnt-out layout of the rooms, each one was cramped and small; only the metal frames of the beds remained.
William Guillen examined one room after another. The scene was truly horrifying.
The walls were blackened by fire, the light was dim, and one could vaguely make out what the asylum used to be like.
Madmen were tied to their beds every day, wailing in pain, thrashing in violent frenzies.
He could almost hear those piercing screams echoing in his ears...
William Guillen closed his eyes. As he turned to leave, his foot kicked a stone slab.
"Young Master Guillen, are you okay?"
The man in black anxiously supported him and kicked the stone slab at his feet aside.
Kicking the stone slab aside uncovered a small box.
The box was so badly burned that only a small portion of it remained; the rest had been reduced to charcoal.
"What’s this?" William Guillen crouched down, puzzled. He reached out and pulled a scorched, notebook-like object from the box.
He dusted it off and flipped it open. Many of the pages inside were burned.
Only a tattered book remained, where one could vaguely make out entries written in a flowing script.
Year, length of time, medication record.
Every day was meticulously recorded.
After flipping through a few pages, William Guillen handed the notebook to the man in black. "Take it back and study it carefully. We might find something new."
"Yes, sir." The man in black took the notebook. Because it had been burned, it was exceptionally fragile.
He held it with extreme care, afraid that even the few remaining pages would be destroyed.
Crossing the desert is no simple matter.
It is an adventure for the bravest; danger lurks everywhere in the desert.
The most well-known dangers are the scorching heat and lack of water.
But lesser-known are the desert’s hornwood species and quicksand.
The hornwood species is a type of snake that moves among the gravel. These snakes have clusters of spiky, horn-like scales above their eyes and are primarily yellow, making them extremely well-camouflaged in the desert.
The hornwood snake is poisonous. Its venom is not usually fatal, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Failure to seek timely treatment can lead to the horrifying consequence of amputation.
As for quicksand, it goes without saying; it’s a curse that makes any desert traveler turn pale at its very mention.
Sophie Sullivan trailed after Thomas Shannon. Her stamina had never been great, and she certainly couldn’t keep pace with men like him.
Thankfully, accompanying them were not only his bodyguards but also a few local Arabians.
