Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 624 - 616: It’s Hard to Please a Proud Man (Part 3)
Ji Chicheng’s voice had barely faded in Xiang Yiqing’s ears when Xiang Yiqing heard the ’beep beep’ of the busy signal; the call was disconnected.
He pulled the phone away from his ear, locked the screen while chuckling, "Ha, this guy, what a huge appetite."
After putting away his phone, he flashed a grin at Ji Anning, "Let’s go."
Ji Anning shyly curled the corners of her mouth and followed behind Xiang Yiqing with her head lowered.
Seeing the two-story Western-style house of Xiang Yiqing, the memory of that year when pregnancy scared her to attempt suicide flashed through her mind.
’I heard you tried on wedding dresses this afternoon.’
’Did it look good?’
’You really can’t compare with Bai Guo; just one appearance from her and you couldn’t handle it and jumped into the sea...’
Thinking back on those words from Ji Chicheng now, they really were unbearably sour.
It turned out he was jealous at that time; she wondered why he came out of the blue to show concern for her life or death.
And yet it was he who was the prime cause of her suicide attempt!
Thinking of it, Ji Anning stomped her foot in anger.
Xiang Yiqing also liked simplicity; all the furniture in the living room was essentially one color, white.
The curtains were the same, with a layer of sun-blocking sheer curtains pulled halfway, fluttering in the sea breeze. They must have been opened for a while in the morning to air out the room, which felt cool and breezy.
Ji Anning changed her shoes and even shrank her neck as she entered.
Noticing she was cold, Xiang Yiqing hurried to close the window, "I’ll close the window."
After shutting the window, Xiang Yiqing called out to Ji Anning, "Make yourself comfortable, I’m going to check the fridge to see what we have, and then I’ll go out and buy some more ingredients."
Ji Anning didn’t sit down but followed Xiang Yiqing into the kitchen, where she offered, "If there are ingredients, I’ll do the cooking."
"Let me check." Xiang Yiqing walked to the fridge, opened the door, and rummaged through it, "I can’t be too shabby hosting two distinguished guests for a meal, I’ll go to the nearby farmers’ market to shop. Do you want to come with me?"
"You go ahead, I’ll stay and deal with what you have in your fridge first."
Leaning against the door frame, Ji Anning waited for Xiang Yiqing to leave before she entered the kitchen.
Xiang Yiqing hadn’t closed the fridge door, and as Ji Anning approached, she glanced inside: yogurt, pure milk, purified water, etc., filling up the fridge.
Just by looking at the fridge, you could tell he was a man who really knew how to keep a house.
She pursed her lips, inevitably wondering, what kind of woman would suit a man like Xiang Yiqing?
No matter what kind of woman it was, she would probably be too happy.
Though they hadn’t interacted much, she could tell from their brief encounters that he was an extremely attentive man. Perhaps his gestures of affection were not always flashy, but they made her feel he was genuinely by her side.
Ji Anning checked every corner and found everything neatly in place.
She even wondered if there was a woman in Xiang Yiqing’s house.
All the ingredients and bowls needed were taken out; she started chopping vegetables, wearing Xiang Yiqing’s large apron, which appeared quite oversized on her.
"Hey, you’re quite fast," Xiang Yiqing said as he came back with a big bag of groceries, complimenting the dishes Ji Anning had prepared, "You can’t tell, but you’re the type who’s grace at the table and skill in the kitchen."
Ji Anning replied with a modest smile, "I can only make some simple dishes that every woman knows how to cook."
Xiang Yiqing disagreed with her, "Not all women can cook; some can’t even boil frozen dumplings."
What? Can’t boil frozen dumplings? Ji Anning furrowed her brow in disbelief, "Ha! Does that even require any technique?"
