Overprotected By My Tsundere CEO-Chapter 571 - 346: If Andrew Is Alone, Mom Will Feel Heartache [Second Update]
The night fell, and the sky was pitch black.
Street lamps lit up in the neighborhood, their light was dim and weak, with dark areas between each lamp.
The rain had lessened somewhat, pattering on the ground like needles in the light, pulling endlessly.
Andrew Hughes held a small umbrella, walking slowly down the road, avoiding puddles, but occasionally stepping on loose tiles, splashing himself with water.
He was holding an umbrella with one hand and a phone with the other, talking on a call.
"I just got out of school, I’m on my way home."
He spoke distinctly.
"Is your grandpa home?" Camilo Nogueira’s voice on the phone was consistently low and gentle.
"No."
Andrew Hughes replied.
Camilo Nogueira asked curiously, "Are you alone?"
Glancing at the building where his home was, seeing no lights, Andrew Hughes pursed his lips, quickening his pace a little, while still answering, "My mom is also here."
Camilo Nogueira was slightly surprised, "Your mom is back?"
"Yes."
"Will she make dinner for you?"
"..."
Andrew Hughes looked up again, glancing at a certain window, without saying a word.
After a moment of silence, not hearing his voice, Camilo Nogueira pressed on, "What’s wrong?"
"She cooks well. But," Andrew Hughes frowned, his voice a bit low, "she doesn’t cook often."
Camilo Nogueira was shocked.
This mother... is a bit too irresponsible.
He didn’t ask directly, but it was clear that Andrew Hughes walked home from school alone, even though his mother was home and didn’t come to pick him up.
It’s fortunate that Andrew Hughes is so sensible.
But, he’s too sensible.
Walking quickly to the front of the building, Andrew Hughes was closing his umbrella as he said, "Uncle, I’m almost home, I need to hang up now."
"Okay." Camilo Nogueira advised, "Be safe, remember to eat. If you need anything, call Uncle."
"Okay."
Andrew Hughes quickly hung up the phone.
Last week, Peter Hughes gave him a new set of keys; he used them to open the door to enter the building, then quickly ran up the stairs with his umbrella.
Standing on tiptoe, he opened the door, pulling it open, without turning on the lights, he quickly changed his shoes and ran into the living room with his schoolbag on.
Not seeing Crystal Hughes in the living room, Andrew Hughes panicked for a few seconds, then hurried to the bedroom, pushing the door open, seeing a figure sitting by the window in the dim light, his hanging heart settled back in place, and he silently let out a breath.
"Andrew?"
Crystal Hughes stiffly raised her head, looking blankly at the small boy standing at the door.
Gradually, her wandering thoughts returned to reality.
Andrew Hughes stood at the door, not entering further, frowning as he thought for a moment, then awkwardly squeezed out a sentence, "Mom, I’m back."
The word "mom" completely woke up Crystal Hughes.
Without time to put on shoes, she ran towards Andrew Hughes barefoot, crouching down, putting her hands on his shoulders.
"Little Handsome Hughes," she cupped Andrew Hughes’s cheeks, rubbing them, as she apologetically said, "Mommy is sorry, I forgot to pick you up from school."
His cheeks were being deformed from the rubbing, but Andrew Hughes didn’t push her away, he just said with some difficulty, "I’m fine."
"How can you be fine."
Crystal Hughes tightly hugged Andrew Hughes, running her hand through his short hair, ruffling it into a mess.
She said, "What should I do with my son being so sensible, when you don’t act like a child, it makes Mommy uncomfortable."
"..." Andrew Hughes was stunned for a moment, "How do you want me to act like a child?"
"I’m so worried."
Crystal Hughes released him in distress, rubbing his soft, tender cheeks again.
After a good rub, Crystal Hughes finally asked, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? Mommy will cook for you."
Thinking for a moment, Andrew Hughes said, "Grandpa said there are vegetables and meat in the fridge, you can cook anything."
Crystal Hughes’s expression froze.
Then, she looked down, seriously gazing at Andrew Hughes, and said one word at a time, "Little Handsome Hughes, Mommy is asking you, what do you want to eat."
"Fried rice with egg."
After some thought, Andrew Hughes said this.
Marcus Shaw said that fried rice with egg is easy to make, even simpler than cooking noodles.
Crystal Hughes was choked, staring at her son, asking, "Do you really only want to eat fried rice with egg?"
"... Yes."
Andrew Hughes nodded.
"Does my son not have any other favorite dishes?" Crystal Hughes pouted, feeling heartbroken.
After hesitating for a long time, and seriously considering, Andrew Hughes answered, "I like everything you cook."
"..."
Crystal Hughes’s eyes turned a bit sour.
Fortunately, the lights weren’t on, the dim light helped her blink away the tears, as she forcefully suppressed that emotion and slowly exhaled.
"Well," Crystal Hughes bargained with him, "how about not having fried rice with egg tonight, I’ll stir-fry a few small dishes for you, okay? Tomorrow morning, I’ll make you steamed buns and dumplings, and fry two sticks of dough, how’s that?"
"... Tomorrow morning, noodles and porridge are fine." Andrew Hughes said with a frown.
