Overpowered Resident Doctor-Chapter 180 - 179: Living Together
At 10:58 AM, the plane carrying Yan Feifan and his colleagues landed right on time at Shoudu Capital International Airport.
Yan Feifan, carrying a light briefcase, walked out of the jet bridge with Yu Suye and Zheng Ling. He saw a group waiting for them a short distance ahead: Yu Youhai, the Vice President of the Affiliated Hospital; Yu Nanxing; the patient's son, Zhou Lang; and two handsome young men holding large bouquets of flowers.
'What a reception…'
Yan Feifan was quite pleased. "Su Ye," he said happily, "the Yu Family is certainly well-connected."
"You can even get past security to meet people right at the gate."
Yu Suye replied sheepishly, "We're mainly relying on someone else's connections."
Just then, the two handsome young men with the bouquets hurried toward Yan Feifan, Yu Suye, and Zheng Ling, their faces wreathed in smiles.
The handsome, buzz-cut man in the lead went straight to Yu Suye and offered her the large bouquet. With a look of pure affection, he said, "Su Ye…"
Yan Feifan wasn't the least bit surprised to see a suitor giving Yu Suye flowers.
She had plenty of them back at the Affiliated Hospital.
Now that she was back on her home turf in Jingcheng, it was practically a given that any suitor who got wind of her arrival would show up at the airport with flowers.
What did surprise Yan Feifan, however, was that only one person was giving her flowers.
Given Yu Suye's popularity, he'd have expected at least three or five of them vying for the honor.
'Or maybe the others are waiting out by the main arrivals hall?'
As these thoughts ran through his head, Yan Feifan reached out, ready to accept the flowers from the other young man, the one with slicked-back hair.
But the man sidestepped him and walked right past.
'He walked right past me…'
A voice then sounded from behind him. "Yuxi, you must be exhausted."
'Well, this is awkward.'
Yan Feifan's hand froze in mid-air. He smoothly redirected it upward, pretending to smooth down his already perfectly neat short hair.
Just then, Yu Youhai and the rest of the group came up to them.
"Mr. Yan, Dr. Zheng, welcome to Jingcheng!"
Yu Youhai shook hands warmly with Yan Feifan and Zheng Ling. Gesturing ahead, he said, "The cars are waiting outside. This way, please!"
As Yan Feifan started walking out with Yu Youhai, he glanced over and saw that Yu Nanxing was now holding the large bouquet, while Yu Suye's face was tight, showing no hint of pleasure.
'He knew that fellow had wasted his time. He's not her type.'
The group left the airport through the VIP exit. A few steps later, they found themselves in front of a Mercedes-Benz sedan, a Cadillac SUV, and a Porsche sports car.
Yu Youhai guided Yan Feifan toward the Mercedes. "There's a medical problem I was hoping to discuss with you, since I have this rare opportunity."
"Mr. Yan, why don't you ride with me?"
Remembering the phone call from him right before the flight, Yan Feifan knew he wanted to speak with him privately.
Yan Feifan agreed and settled into the back seat of the Mercedes.
Just as Yu Youhai was getting into the back seat from the other side and closing his door, the front passenger door was suddenly pulled open, and Yu Suye slid in.
"Su Ye, why aren't you riding in Lu Yao's car?" Yu Youhai asked, puzzled.
"A sports car is too cramped. I don't like it!"
Yu Suye explained, then added, "I'm here as Feifan's assistant on this trip. Plus, since we're on my home turf, it's my duty to accompany him every step of the way."
"Su Ye, you're being willful again."
Yu Youhai chided her gently, then instructed the driver, "Mr. Zhang, let's go."
The car started moving, slowly at first, then quickly left the airport area and merged smoothly onto the airport expressway.
"Mr. Yan, it's like this…"
Yu Youhai handed a tablet to Yan Feifan. "The patient is fifty-five years old," he explained. "Liver tumor."
"We had already scheduled him for a liver transplant."
"Unfortunately, the donor liver was diverted to another patient who was a better match and in more critical condition."
Yu Youhai sighed. "Who knows how long it will be until another donor liver becomes available."
"And the patient's condition is extremely critical."
"We were hoping to ask you to perform a percutaneous ethanol injection to shrink the tumor and buy him some more time."
Just then, Yu Suye twisted around in the front seat, her expression one of disbelief. "My dearest Mr. Yu," she asked, "did I hear you correctly?"
"Our great Baining Hospital needs to call for reinforcements for something as minor as an ethanol injection for a liver tumor?"
Yu Youhai sighed in resignation. "Su Ye, don't make rash statements when you don't know the full situation."
"The patient's liver tumor… the situation is a bit complicated."
'A bit complicated? It's ridiculously complicated!'
Yan Feifan was flipping through the MRI scans on the tablet.
The patient had five tumors in his liver. One, measuring three by three by four centimeters, was in a particularly unique location.
It was located deep within the liver, practically encased by layers of small hepatic arterioles, venules, and portal venules.
The liver is an incredibly important and unique organ.
Unlike other organs in the abdominal cavity, it has a dual blood supply.
The hepatic artery carries oxygenated blood from the heart, while the portal vein carries nutrient-rich blood collected from the digestive tract.
The liver has an extremely rich blood supply.
Its blood volume accounts for roughly 14% of the body's total.
An adult liver receives 1,500 to 2,000 ml of blood flow per minute.
Furthermore, the liver produces nearly all of the body's clotting factors.
The liver plays a key regulatory role in the dynamic balance between the body's coagulation and anticoagulation systems.
Therefore, the severity of liver damage often correlates with the degree of coagulation disorders. Patients with liver failure frequently suffer from severe bleeding.
In this patient's current condition, his liver function was less than a fifth of normal.
If a blood vessel were accidentally nicked during the puncture, the bleeding would be massive, rapid, and unstoppable. For the patient, that would mean certain death.
Yan Feifan handed the tablet to Yu Suye.
Yu Suye took the tablet. After only a few glances, she knew her earlier words had been far too rash.
"Feifan, you can do this kind of tumor puncture, can't you?"
Yan Feifan stated factually, "I haven't found a viable path for the puncture yet."
At that very moment, an image formed in his mind: an irregular tumor, seemingly wrapped in a tangled mess of string, slowly rotating.
Puncture Needles hovered around it, poised to strike, searching for the perfect opening for a fatal blow…
Yan Feifan took the tablet back from Yu Suye. As he studied it again, he suddenly noticed something.
"Mr. Yu, these MRI scans… they're much clearer than usual!"
"You noticed that too?"
Yu Youhai said with a hint of pride, "It's a new MRI machine we recently imported. It's the only one of its kind in the country."
"Its imaging resolution is currently the highest in the nation."
He added with a sigh, "Of course, it also had the highest price tag."
Yan Feifan was well aware that the market for high-end, high-precision medical equipment was dominated by foreign companies.
It was a field that required long-term R&D and technological accumulation, something domestic companies couldn't catch up to in a short time.
While Yan Feifan was mentally searching for a path to puncture the liver tumor, he heard Yu Suye's voice again.
"Dearest uncle, I have something to tell you. I'm not living in my apartment anymore. I've moved to Zuimo Court to live with Feifan."
Even though Yan Feifan could be dense, he could still hear the massive potential for misunderstanding in her words.
He turned to Yu Youhai, whose eyes were wide as saucers, and explained, "I'm the landlord. Su Ye is my tenant."
Yu Youhai felt a wave of relief.
But then he noticed the adoring gaze Yu Suye gave Yan Feifan, and his composure began to crumble once more…
