Overpowered Awakening: I Became Invincible With A Broken Talent-Chapter 195: Birth Of Obsidian
Marlon woke up with a slight headache, which settled down a few minutes after. He sat down on the bed, trying to recall the dreams he had in his short nap, but for unknown reasons, he could not resurface any of them. Yet, for those same unknown reasons, he felt sad and angry, as if something had been lost without him understanding why.
He gradually sank into the residual emotions, letting them sit quietly in his chest, until the telepathic voice of his pet called out to him and pulled him back.
He accessed the beast domain and brought it out.
To its surprise, it was now double its hatchling size and looked slightly more mature in appearance. Its small body seemed firmer, and its feathers were more defined than before.
Its eyes even shone with a little more maturity and intelligence.
It let out a few small chirping sounds that were instantly translated telepathically.
"What is my name, father?"
Marlon fell silent for a short while as he tried to come up with a name for it.
A part of him wanted to name it after his dead friends, and another part of him immediately negated the suggestion.
After all, he had two male friends. Naming his pet after one and disregarding the other would be totally unfair and partial.
He even imagined a scene of Ashton and Logan arguing about whose name the pet would bear, both refusing to back down.
He turned to observe his pet once more, and a name came to mind, one he had planned to use for himself in the past.
"Your name is Obsidian," he said with a faint smile on his face.
Obsidian chirped slowly.
"Ob..Sid..ian?"
Marlon nodded. "Yes, your name from now on is Obsidian."
It repeated it once more, this time clearer, as an affirmation. That small improvement caused Marlon to smile slightly wider.
Nonetheless, at that moment, several notifications appeared before him.
[ You've successfully named your pet ]
[ Pet: Obsidian has been registered. ]
[ Revealing pet status ]
Name: Obsidian

Current stage: F-rank

Unlocked abilities: Flight, Basic elemental strikes, dual-cast, meditation

Familiarity: 100%
He observed the pet status. Most of the information was already known, except for the unlocked abilities.
While the unlocked abilities looked nothing special at first glance, they were still pretty incredible for a pet only a few hours old.
And also, with the reference to the Elemental War Eagle that once existed in Arden, he knew what sort of battle beast it would become as it matured and evolved.
He patted it gently and then stared at the ceiling. For that moment, he recalled the happiness and pureness, or maybe cringiness, in his mind when he first uttered that name.
He recalled his words to Lyra, the first words he had actually said to her, and the smile on his face widened even more.
He placed Obsidian on his shoulder and strolled out of the private bedroom. Obsidian lay calmly there, its cute eyes observing the surroundings intelligently and without fear.
Whether his steps were too silent to inform her that he was coming or she had just arrived, when he stepped out of the room, he barged into Liora, who was standing in front of his room.
He caught her off guard, and she almost lost her footing.
Fortunately, he was fast and caught her calmly, helping her regain her balance before she could fall.
A visible blush appeared on her oily black face, creating a visage that would make any healthy man fall in love. But Marlon seemed unfazed by the cuteness. Instead, he simply asked what she was doing there.
"Ehh… I came to wake you up. Orion said we would be arriving soon," she stuttered in response, her fingers fidgeting lightly.
"Okay."
Marlon responded and turned his back to walk away.
As he did, Obsidian turned toward Liora, who was currently fidgeting with her fingers, seemingly wanting to say something but holding herself back.
When she spotted the divine beast's gaze, she wore a small smile and waved at it cheerfully.
But Obsidian simply kept observing her, the look on his face rather blank and unfriendly. After it had stared at her long enough, it turned and faced the direction of its father.
Marlon reached the monitoring room, where Nox, Orion, and Solan were currently spectating the scene below.
They were currently above the Shadowfen River. It was a massive water body that connected directly with the central ocean.
Among all water bodies in Arden, it housed the most danger zones, and most times monsters usually popped out of the waters.
Nonetheless, those monsters were usually weak and appeared in small numbers, easily defeated by even low-level hunters.
But at this moment, the Shadowfen River was a chaotic mess.
There were thousands of monsters within its confines, both water-based and land-based.
Certain areas floated with the corpses of humans and monsters, forming blood pools within the river.
Several groups of monsters engaged in combat against others, adding to the chaos.
In several areas, there were squads of hunters trying to hold back the monsters, struggling to maintain formation.
And in the middle was a massive ship housing over a thousand citizens who had been caught in the mayhem.
The ship was being protected by a lot of hunters, but they were being overpowered by the monsters, who kept pouring in without end.
"We've arrived," said Orion as the spaceship came to a halt.
"Are you guys ready?" he asked.
The three of them nodded gently.
"Good… we'll go in like this…"
Orion began to discuss the formation they would take based on the area and situation, giving quick instructions.
After he was done, the three of them, including Liora, who had come to join them a few minutes ago, got ready to engage.
Nox inhaled and exhaled deeply to maintain a stable mental state, as it was important for his ability.
Liora used Stellar Infusion to create a new battlesuit with both flight and swim functions included, and then made two pink lightsabers that hummed faintly.
Solan simply jogged lightly in place.
Marlon telepathically spoke with Obsidian before sending him into the beast domain.
The hatch of the spaceship opened slowly, and the distant sounds of battle rushed in immediately.
Without hesitation, they all walked toward the exit and prepared to descend into the chaos below.
