Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 91: The Precedent Set
Scarlett Shaw said this with a very soft demeanor, not excessively flattering, and her round almond eyes were full of sincerity.
If Skyler Miller were present and saw her expression, he would definitely say that any man seeing it might want to bully her.
And as a man, Julian Ford was no exception.
His gaze swept over her slightly parted, pale pink lips, his palm lifted, thumb pressing at the corner of her mouth.
This action, Scarlett Shaw was all too familiar with.
A sudden flash in her mind of a certain night, when Julian Ford had her pinned beneath him, his dark eyes stared at her like this, his finger pressed against her lips, speaking in a deep voice: "Suck it in."
Except this time, Julian Ford did not invade.
His raised hand slowly lowered before Scarlett Shaw’s eyes, as fear and avoidance grew, dark pupils flashing, he turned into the inner room, and when he emerged, he was already wearing his coat.
"Let’s go." Julian Ford said plainly.
Scarlett Shaw followed him, walking out of the room one after the other.
They kept a polite but distant distance, not crossing any lines.
It’s undeniable, choosing a gift for Julian Ford was indeed a draining task; after an afternoon of shopping, Scarlett Shaw’s sense of aesthetics was exhausted, her legs almost broken from walking, and not a single thing satisfied this young master’s tastes.
As dusk approached, Scarlett Shaw, out of options, asked, "What kind of gifts have you received on past birthdays, are there any you particularly liked? So I can have some reference."
As soon as she finished speaking, the atmosphere instantly chilled.
Julian Ford stayed silent for a long time before glancing at her and casually said, "I never celebrate birthdays."
Scarlett Shaw was stunned.
Julian Ford’s interest waned, and his already calm expression grew even colder.
"No need to buy anything, let’s head back."
He stepped towards the parking area.
Scarlett Shaw followed behind, gazing at Julian Ford’s increasingly distant, tall silhouette, in the evening twilight, carrying a hint of inexplicable solitude.
Of course, the solitude Scarlett Shaw felt lacked any logical basis; to be blunt, it’s just what she felt.
Naturally, this doesn’t rule out the possibility that because she likes him, she’s more likely to be sentimental over his mood changes. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
On the journey back, the car was filled with a heavy silence, suffocatingly oppressive.
Scarlett Shaw sat in the passenger seat, her peripheral vision caught sight of Julian Ford, her fingers clasped tightly on her lap as she asked nonchalantly, "Why is it that you never celebrate your birthday."
Julian Ford did not shift his gaze, "It’s none of your business."
Scarlett Shaw: "..."
Indeed, it’s not really any of her concern.
According to both feelings and reasoning, if someone doesn’t want to talk about it and is so cold in manner, persisting further would seem like forcing warm feelings onto cold shoulders.
However, Scarlett Shaw still felt sympathetic, her instincts told her that Julian Ford was in a very bad mood right now, leaving him be might not be a wise choice either.
Thus she softly said, "Weren’t you saying earlier that I didn’t understand you? Just consider this giving me a chance to understand you?"
Her attitude was notably sincere.
Looking into her sincere almond eyes, her heart was genuine.
Yet, Julian Ford is evidently not the type to graciously accept a step down; he had no reaction, extremely cold and unyielding, saying:
"Between you and me, there’s never any need for mutual understanding."
These words were not only cold but also carried a distinct sense of drawing a line.
Scarlett Shaw’s warm, soft smile froze in an instant, sweat slightly moistening her clenched palms as she retracted her gaze from his icy face, quietly tilting her head to watch the snow falling outside the window.
During deep winter, the chill seemed to creep in through the window seam, Scarlett Shaw felt cold and shrunk her neck slightly.
Julian Ford glanced over, "Cold?"
Scarlett Shaw: "It’s none of your business."
Julian Ford let out a cold laugh, "Apart from anything else, you’re remarkably adept at talking back."
Scarlett Shaw retorted unyieldingly: "Well, it’s only because I have such a fine example ahead."
Both of their remarks carried thorns, the suffocating, cramped space, adding a few degrees of tension to the atmosphere.
Julian Ford’s mood, already quite unpleasant, hit rock bottom after Scarlett Shaw’s unyielding retort, his cold voice mercilessly stating:
"Scarlett Shaw, too brazen and reckless is no different from seeking death."
Scarlett Shaw was slightly stunned, instinctively saying, "Are you using your status as a boss to pressure me?"
"It’s just the truth."
The car pulled into the hotel garage, Julian Ford stepped on the brakes, unbuckled his seatbelt, and with an icy look, casually said:
"From some perspectives, your temperament indeed piques my interest, you’re smart, there’s no way you’re oblivious to it, isn’t that so."
Scarlett Shaw looked into his eyes, "What are you trying to say?"
"People need to learn moderation," Julian Ford said, "I can tolerate occasional rudeness, but there are lines you need to be aware of."
Julian Ford’s words, to put it harshly, meant don’t get overly optimistic just because you got a little sunlight, who is Scarlett Shaw to think she can fully exert herself before him.
Compared to the previously icy demeanor, Julian Ford’s current indifferent distance made Scarlett Shaw feel even more hurt.
This attitude of drawing a line, an aloof position, she hadn’t felt for some time.
Therefore, with his approach, her defenses crumbled time and time again.
Consequently growing complacent, thinking she could use a few words to shake his resolutely kept secrets.
It was apparent she was indeed presumptuous.
With the negotiation time agreed with Roman Lawson fast approaching, Scarlett Shaw suppressed the unease rising within her, calmly prepared the financing proposal, and after Julian Ford’s review, the two proceeded to meet Roman Lawson as scheduled.
The meeting took place in Roman Lawson’s room, his intentions were as plain as day.
Upon seeing Julian Ford appear beside Scarlett Shaw, Roman Lawson’s expression stiffened considerably.
Collaborating with Veridian, the company had decided this not long ago, he had delayed responding to Skyler Miller as a smokescreen, his goal was to sleep with this young woman named Scarlett Shaw.
Unexpectedly, Julian Ford personally came for the negotiation.
Roman Lawson’s plans fell through, but the contract nonetheless had to be signed.
In the room, Julian Ford and Roman Lawson sat opposite each other, Scarlett Shaw succinctly explained the financing proposal and contract details, neither had any objections.
Signed, sealed, and done, the entire process flowed smoothly.
As the door opened and closed, people left, and warmth faded with tea.
The sure prospect of success escaped, Roman Lawson irritably loosened his tie, that Scarlett Shaw, looking so innocent and pure, was surely not yet deflowered, for this wonderful night he had even prepared some...
Thinking of this, Roman Lawson’s originally aroused body suddenly turned cold.
He dared not face reality, glancing at the glass left over from earlier on the table.
The remaining half of his body turned completely cold.
Finished.
The glass he prepared for Scarlett Shaw, Julian Ford drank it!
