Chapter 52: Chapter 52: It Really Is Him

"I want to find my mom and hear her say it herself—I know she must have had her reasons for leaving me."

Scarlett Shaw stared at the pitch-black ceiling, her eyes slightly moist.

The man’s hand moved from her waist to her slender back, pulling her closer to his chest.

The air fell silent. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

...

Scarlett Shaw was woken up in the middle of the night by a call from the hospital.

Julian Ford was a light sleeper, and he woke up with the slightest noise, opening his eyes just as Scarlett hurriedly finished getting dressed.

"What’s wrong?"

"Grandma’s heart rhythm was a bit irregular tonight. I’m going to the hospital to see her."

Scarlett’s face didn’t look good, but she was still relatively calm.

Julian Ford quickly got dressed as well and went with her.

When Scarlett reached the hospital, her grandma’s condition had already improved and wasn’t serious, but the doctor sternly reminded, "The patient has heart disease and should definitely avoid stress. Try not to let today’s situation happen again."

Only after Scarlett asked the caregiver did she find out that after she left in the afternoon, her uncle Felix Ford had been there.

No one knows what he said, but Grandma wasn’t feeling well afterward.

After the doctor briefed Scarlett, he noticed Julian Ford standing by and walked over, whispering, "President Ford, your mother has been looking for you all night."

"Got it."

Julian Ford’s expression was indifferent, betraying no emotion.

The doctor looked troubled and pleaded, "Would you like to go see her now?"

Julian Ford raised his eyes to glance at him, "Is she breaking things or causing a scene?"

"Both."

Julian Ford pinched the bridge of his nose.

Scarlett Shaw spent the rest of the night by Grandma’s bedside and didn’t take a nap until the sky lightened. Upon waking, she remembered that Julian Ford had accompanied her to the hospital the previous night, but seemed to have vanished after meeting the doctor.

Scarlett Shaw thought about it, then took out her phone and sent Julian Ford a message:

-President Ford, thank you for coming with me to the hospital last night.

Julian Ford replied with a simple "Mm."

Scarlett had a tutoring job in the afternoon. After repeatedly urging Grandma to contact her if Felix Ford dared to show up again, she finally felt at ease to leave the hospital.

Unexpectedly, after just a few steps outside the ward, she bumped into Aaron Carson.

"Assistant Carson, are you sick?"

Scarlett asked with concern.

Aaron Carson smiled courteously, "I came to see President Ford."

Scarlett blinked, "Julian Ford is still at the hospital?"

"Still?" Aaron Carson, attentive to detail, caught the key point of her words instantly, "You’ve seen President Ford?"

Scarlett didn’t know where to start and simply nodded silently.

Aaron Carson lowered his voice, "Did you also meet the madam?"

Scarlett: "Hm?"

Aaron Carson, missing Scarlett’s puzzled tone, thought it was a confirmation and added, "If you’ve seen Ford family affairs, don’t spread it around, or your life could be in danger."

"..."

This conversation was completely mismatched.

Aaron Carson’s words piqued curiosity, but Scarlett wasn’t interested in such affluent family troubles, especially with all her own matters weighing on her.

She nodded with a faint smile.

Just as she was about to say goodbye to Aaron Carson, a mischievous child suddenly ran out from the corridor, bumping into her.

Scarlett staggered but managed to stay upright, while Aaron Carson worried she might fall and steadied her with his hand.

At the same moment, the elevator door at the end of the corridor opened.

Ryan Ford, hands in his pockets, saw from afar the scene of Scarlett being held in Aaron Carson’s embrace.

The two were chest to back.

Even in a hospital, they were so shameless.

Scarlett and Aaron Carson were unaware that in the eyes of a certain second son of the Ford family, they were already irrefutable "cheaters."

Scarlett was smiling and saying goodbye to Aaron Carson when her arm was suddenly pulled backward.

She raised her head instinctively.

Ryan Ford’s brow furrowed deeply, and he stared at her, "So it really is him."

Scarlett blinked, "What?"

Ryan Ford sneered, "How long are you going to keep pretending? You even book a hotel room with him during trips. Scarlett, do you have any shame at all? No wonder you two were flirting on the plane that day!"

Scarlett knew from these words that Chloe Grant had sent Ryan Ford the video after all.

She shook off Ryan Ford’s hand and pressed her lips together, lost in thought.

Aaron Carson, wanting to stay out of trouble, quickly said, "Second Young Master Ford, you’ve misunderstood. Scarlett and I..."

"So what if it’s true?"

Scarlett suddenly moved to Aaron Carson’s side, maintaining her composure and said to Ryan Ford, "Whatever happens between Aaron Carson and me, it happened after I broke up with you. I’m true to myself and righteous. What right do you have to accuse me here?"

Scarlett’s words left Aaron Carson speechless, caught between laughter and tears.

He gave her a questioning look: Are you sure you’re above reproach?

Scarlett lifted her chin, confidently: If I’m not righteous, isn’t your boss just as dubious? Are you daring to question President Ford?

Aaron Carson: ...

Ryan Ford’s chest heaved with anger, his eyes filled with rage.

Just when Scarlett thought he might create a scene, Ryan’s gaze suddenly fixed on Aaron Carson, his face turning grim, "Dare to touch her, and you won’t last in Veridian."

At this moment, Aaron Carson felt beyond speechless.

He strived to respond calmly and politely, "Second Young Master Ford, I’m President Ford’s assistant. Whether I stay at Veridian or not is up to President Ford."

Ryan Ford let out a scornful laugh, "Fine, I’ll let my brother know how his personal assistant secretly got involved with his brother’s ex-girlfriend!"

Aaron Carson: "..."

"Ryan Ford, stop making a scene in the hospital. Aaron Carson and I are free to love. President Ford is the big boss. What does an employee’s love life have to do with him?"

Scarlett spoke without a change in expression or heartbeat.

Not even her ears turned red.

Aaron Carson sneaked a look at her, amidst his speechlessness arose a strange admiration.

It’s no wonder President Ford keeps her around; she’s indeed no ordinary person.

Ryan Ford snorted, "One who feeds you is also akin to a parent; how can it not matter?"

Aaron Carson: "..."

This second son was clearly not of sound mind.

He thought a moment, then, following Scarlett’s lead, said to Ryan Ford:

"Second Young Master, President Ford has been taking care of the madam in her ward for several days now. You know the madam’s condition; President Ford is also busy with Veridian affairs. He’s stretched thin handling both sides, thus there’s really no need to bother him with such trivial matters. Moreover..."

Aaron Carson paused, lowering his voice, "I heard yesterday, the madam even hurt President Ford."

Ryan Ford’s anger toward Scarlett and Aaron Carson gradually dissipated, replaced by a cold, hard expression between his brows.

He glanced over at the two, sending a clear message that this matter wasn’t over, then turned and walked toward the private ward.

Ryan Ford’s silhouette disappeared from view, and Aaron Carson finally breathed a sigh of relief.

His gaze fell on the pale face of the culprit.

"Think carefully about how you’re going to explain this to President Ford."

The earlier scenario had been sufficiently risky; he was adamant about not getting sucked into this mess.

No way!

Scarlett looked up at him, "Explain what?"

Aaron Carson: "What you said to the second son about you and me..."

Scarlett’s expression turned subtle, "Do you think Julian Ford is someone who listens to explanations?"

Aaron Carson: "..."
