Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 211: She Only Wants a Good Life for Herself
The hospital room was so quiet that even the sound of a needle dropping could be heard.
The air was deathly still.
The recording was also suffocatingly silent.
Ezra Ford, with a heavy expression, angrily rebuked Freya Pierce, "If you still consider Julian your son, turn that thing off! At a time like this, are you still going to do as you please?!"
He’s never been one to shirk responsibility, but there are some things Julian shouldn’t hear right now.
But Julian’s expression remained unchanged. He even said calmly, as Ezra Ford strode forward to seize the recording pen, "Play it on."
Ezra Ford’s movement halted.
The recording played his voice again:
"The Ford Group has acquired many companies, but I do have some impression of your father, Benjamin Shaw. He was a businessman with great ideas but too soft-hearted. In the business world, it’s survival of the fittest. In my eyes, your father’s company went bankrupt due to his own incompetence. If we didn’t do it, others would have.
So, the money I’m giving you is just because my son genuinely likes you.
I’ve also looked into it. During the time Julian was with you, he’s helped you clear all debts, even bought you a mobile home, solving all your material problems. He probably did this to compensate you for what the Ford family caused your father.
All in all, our family owes you nothing."
The recording pen fell silent briefly, and the three in the hospital room didn’t utter a word.
Breaking the silence was a crisp sound of a teacup being placed on the glass table in the recording, followed by Ezra Ford’s voice:
"The following words are just my personal feelings and might be unpleasant to hear. If you don’t want to, you can take this card and leave now.
Since you’re not leaving, I’ll speak plainly—
Miss Shaw, I won’t doubt my son’s judgment, and being liked by him means you’re indeed a smart person.
You are very adept at making sure you live comfortably. Your father’s company went bankrupt, and he passed away. I don’t believe that all these years, you never had the thought of finding out the truth, nor do I believe that after so many encounters with our Ryan, you never had a hint of suspicion.
Of course, I can also see that you pretend to be unaware of everything not to seek revenge, but to avoid.
You don’t want to lose the tree that is Julian that brings you endless benefits, and you don’t want others to know that you’re someone who can overlook your father’s death for a man, so you feign ignorance, deceiving yourself.
To be honest, I actually appreciate this mentality; people not thinking for themselves will be condemned by heaven and earth. People like you, who make sure to live better and better, there’s nothing wrong with that.
But people like you, in the end, compared to what Julian can offer you, you offer him very little. Even without you, Julian can still receive the best treatment. You haven’t even thought of standing up for your father when he had trouble; how steadfast can you truly be for Julian?
Moreover—"
Hearing this, Ezra Ford suddenly remembered something and tried once more to snatch the recording pen from Freya Pierce’s hand.
But it was too late.
His voice echoed once more in the vast emptiness of the hospital room:
"Your mother, Serena Ford, indirectly caused the death of Julian’s brother, making you the least qualified person to be with Julian."
The recording pen let out a beep and stopped abruptly.
Ezra Ford directly picked up Freya Pierce, furiously throwing her out of the hospital room, causing her to fall on the ground. Her eyes momentarily blank, then she screamed furiously:
"Who was it?! Who killed Julian!!"
Just released from confinement, Ryan Ford arrived at the hospital door only to see this scene.
"Who gave you this recording?"
Ezra Ford ignored Freya Pierce’s question, his face as dark as coal, a tension palpable enough to freeze even Ryan in his tracks.
Freya Pierce, with tears streaming, asked, "Who is this Serena Ford?! Why did you say she killed Julian!"
Ezra Ford, uninterested in engaging, signaled Caleb Jennings not far away, and soon Caleb called the bodyguards over.
Freya Pierce continued to weep and scream.
Ezra Ford impatiently said, "Be quiet."
The bodyguard chopped at the back of Freya Pierce’s neck. The force wasn’t heavy but enough to silence her. They quickly took her away.
"Dad, what’s going on? Why did you mention Serena Ford?!"
Ryan Ford was also unsettled. How could Serena Ford have a connection to the Ford family?
Ezra Ford was at his wit’s end, agitated as he stepped into the room, with Ryan following closely.
Julian still stood on the spot, his indifferent gaze fixed on the recording pen on the floor, dark eyes covered with an unreadable mist.
"That last remark was for Scarlett Shaw, don’t take it to heart."
Ezra Ford took the initiative to explain.
When Liam Spencer’s father mentioned Benjamin Shaw’s name that day, it sounded familiar. Ezra had someone check it briefly, couldn’t find much else, but learning that Serena Ford and Benjamin were married was easy enough.
He thought it a mere coincidence of identical names, but after seeing the photos confirmed Serena Ford was one of the officers involved in rescuing his two sons.
"When you and your brother were kidnapped, although the police side did have delays due to Serena Ford’s errors, it was also her who deduced your final location."
"At that time, everyone was clueless, but Serena Ford had a talent in criminal psychology, inferring quite accurately from bits of evidence like threat letters and video tapes left by the criminals."
"Just that no one’s perfect, ultimately there were tiny deviations, which is why your brother..."
Because of this, Ezra had a deep impression of Serena Ford.
The real aim of narrating this wasn’t, naturally, to absolve her.
Police merits and mistakes are matters of their internal rewards and punishments, beyond his intervention. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
His only concern was that this might create an obstacle for Julian in his heart.
Scarlett left at a less than ideal moment, reviving these ancient matters couldn’t help but provoke more thought.
"Are you done?"
After a long silence, Julian didn’t even glance at Ezra but coldly uttered these four words.
Surely everything was said.
But his son’s attitude somewhat chilled Ezra’s heart.
He believed that he had already lowered himself in every possible way, devoted entirely to Julian’s welfare, even willing to bend on matters he wouldn’t before, and the promised sum for Scarlett when persuading her to leave matched the profits of some major company projects.
Yet all it resulted in was a cold face.
Who wouldn’t feel discouraged?
"Julian, you might resent Dad for deciding to meet Scarlett on his own, yet today, I must speak frankly to you, do you truly consider Scarlett a good person?"
"What I told Scarlett may sound disrespectful to you, but I assure you, those are genuine thoughts drawn from my knowledge and experiences accumulated over the years."
"You’ve heard it; I offered her a lifetime free of worries, and she chose to take that card, disappearing even on the day of your surgery. Isn’t that enough proof of her lack of resolve to face challenges alongside you? She’s only focused on her own well-being."
