Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Facing Reality

Josiah Sutton was initially there to see Jasper Spencer, and upon seeing he was fine, he quickly left. Just as he stepped out of the ward, he saw Julian Ford at the far end of the corridor, indeed waiting for Scarlett Shaw.

Josiah Sutton casually put one hand in the pocket of his white coat and straightforwardly said, "Are you willing to accept treatment because of Scarlett Shaw?"

Julian Ford’s gaze was fixed on the distance outside the window.

He lifted his eyelids upon hearing the question and glanced at him.

Not answering is as good as admitting it.

Josiah Sutton asked, "Are you planning to tell her?"

"There’s no need." Julian Ford replied indifferently, "Even if I’m with her, it won’t last till the end."

Josiah Sutton asked, "Then why are you messing with her?"

A flicker seemed to rise in Julian Ford’s eyes, but it was brief, almost fleeting.

Josiah Sutton frowned slightly, "Julian, Scarlett isn’t like my sister. My sister is loved by many, she doesn’t lack affection, so even if you’ve never been moved by her, she would only feel indignant rather than heartbroken. But you know Scarlett’s situation better than I do, and even in the short time in the ward, I could tell her feelings for you are genuine."

The fear is that in the end, the true feelings not only go unrequited.

But also suffer wounds all over.

Julian Ford glanced at him, his breath slightly cold, "How many times have you met Scarlett Shaw to know her so well?"

Josiah Sutton couldn’t help but laugh and cry, "Your possessiveness, isn’t it a bit too strong?"

Just a casual mention and he’s upset?

"Though the probability is minuscule." Josiah Sutton paused with a deep smile, "But Julian, have you considered the possibility of getting yourself involved in the end?"

Julian Ford glanced at him, without answering.

His gaze passed over Josiah Sutton’s shoulder and fell on the distant.

Scarlett Shaw had just walked out of the ward, her eyes scanning around expectantly. She was clearly looking for him, but when their eyes met, she quickly looked away.

Julian Ford approached Scarlett Shaw and stopped in front of her. Scarlett spoke first, "About the things you said in the ward just now..."

He looked down at her, "You didn’t like it?"

Scarlett Shaw’s words got stuck, silent for a few seconds.

She didn’t dislike it.

She just hadn’t expected Julian Ford to be so straightforward and open about pursuing her.

Julian Ford, seeming to have guessed her thoughts, said calmly, "Pursuing you isn’t something shameful, there’s nothing that can’t be known."

He paused and asked another question, "Or do you prefer to keep it secretive, not letting anyone know?"

In these two short sentences, Julian Ford appeared calm and proper.

Not even a hint of his usual aloof demeanor.

Seemingly genuinely asking for her opinion.

Scarlett Shaw, usually eloquent and sharp-tongued, was already short-circuiting several times.

She had only one thought now.

Which was, she seemed to have really trapped herself.

This Julian Ford, could he possibly be serious?

The two rode the elevator all the way to the hospital’s underground parking lot. Julian Ford saw Scarlett Shaw’s wandering gaze, still not having answered his previous question, suddenly thought of something, and asked in a slightly deep voice:

"Or do you think, even if we date in the future, you don’t want Ryan Ford to know?"

Scarlett Shaw was taken aback.

Julian Ford squinted his eyes, coldness surging up.

Scarlett Shaw: "So, you had Aaron Carson help me, thinking I still care about being perceived by Ryan Ford as having been involved with you?"

"You used to care a lot about him, every time begging me with tearful eyes, afraid he’d find out." Julian Ford said.

Scarlett Shaw’s eyes widened, "You don’t see that when Ryan Ford almost discovered us before, what we were doing. Julian Ford, I don’t have a habit of being watched while doing things."

Julian Ford: "Wasn’t it you who cried sadly over Ryan Ford multiple times?"

"Who doesn’t feel sad right after a breakup?" Scarlett Shaw said frankly.

"People are emotional creatures, didn’t you feel sad when you broke up with Zoe Sutton?"

Julian Ford replied calmly, "No."

Scarlett Shaw looked at him surprised.

Julian Ford: "My relationship with Zoe Sutton was to appease my family, I never liked her, so naturally, I wouldn’t have such emotions."

To be precise, before Scarlett Shaw, Julian Ford had always been extremely indifferent and cold towards matters of the heart.

Even with Scarlett Shaw, there was affection, but to say how deep and unforgettable, such feelings wouldn’t really manifest in him.

Julian Ford’s words reminded Scarlett Shaw of his previous marriage arrangements with Lynn Walsh.

She asked, "So you’re saying all your dating partners were arranged by your family, and if you pursue me, even if we’re together in the future, your family won’t interfere?"

Julian Ford looked deep into her eyes.

Scarlett Shaw almost, after saying this, suddenly realized something.

Julian Ford did like her and was willing to pursue her—these were facts.

But it’s also a fact that it won’t last long with her.

To put it simply, it’s having a relationship that’s destined to end, having fun while it lasts, and breaking up when tired.

In love, what’s the most unbearable emotion?

It’s when one person is hoping to work things out and nurture the relationship, while the other is considering how to break up with less guilt.

One thinks of "us," the other thinks of themselves.

Indeed, Scarlett Shaw and Julian Ford’s relationship now hasn’t reached that point.

But at the moment, the two haven’t even officially started, and Julian Ford already holds such a mindset while interacting with her, which inevitably feels like a cold shower coming down.

Scarlett Shaw’s face, initially with a subtle smile, suddenly faded.

She was inherently gentle and kind in appearance, and when not pleased, it showed quite evidently.

Julian Ford glanced at the coldness in her eyes and guessed her thoughts. After a brief consideration, he said, "I won’t deny this matter of not going to last till the end, but I can assure that during dating, I will fulfill all the duties of a boyfriend."

Scarlett Shaw looked up at him.

The coldness in her eyes seemed lessened.

Julian Ford continued, "Actually, you’re aware of such realities, aren’t you?"

Scarlett Shaw took a deep breath, "Julian Ford, I’ve never seen anyone pursuing someone while declaring they’ll break up eventually."

"Sometimes it’s better to say things upfront." Julian Ford said nonchalantly. After this sentence, he shifted the topic, "What do you want for dinner?"

Scarlett Shaw only felt a heaviness in her chest and didn’t want to acknowledge him.

Julian Ford’s rationality made her courage, originally intending to give it a try with him, instantly disappear.

She felt a bit uninspired and waved her hand, "Not eating, I’ll go straight home."

Julian Ford didn’t say anything else, quietly driving her to the apartment building. However, as Scarlett Shaw got out of the car, he followed her into the apartment elevator.

Scarlett Shaw was quite dismissive of him now, "Julian Ford, don’t follow me."

Julian Ford looked down at her, "Not following, letting you go home alone to cry secretly?"
