Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 472 - 450: A Sharp Tongue (12th Update)
Sienna Thornton thought for a moment, then smiled sweetly: "Well, he’s got a bit of a sharp tongue and teases me occasionally, but other than that, he’s pretty great. When we live on our own, he’s the one who gets up to make breakfast, and if he finishes work early, he’ll buy groceries and cook dinner. After that, he’ll even clean the kitchen and dining room."
Quentin Thorne asked, "So you don’t do any chores at home?"
"I use one day on the weekend for a thorough clean, scrubbing down the whole house."
"And what about him? Does he help when you’re doing chores?"
Sienna Thornton replied honestly, "He regularly goes back to the old house to see his grandfather on Saturdays and spends Sundays with my mom, so he doesn’t have much chance to help out."
Quentin Thorne nodded, "That makes sense."
He asked further, "What about his personality?"
"He’s really good," Sienna said. "He’s emotionally stable, patient, and very considerate. He worries about a lot of things I don’t even think about."
Then she mentioned how Simon Forrester sends New Year gifts and red envelopes to Felix Raines every year, summarizing: "Actually, these details show that he not only cares about me but also my mom and my stepdad’s family. I was quite upset at first about him giving my stepdad gifts, but after my stepdad improved his attitude towards my mom because of it, I realized he’s very wise and kind-hearted."
Quentin Thorne was unaware of these matters.
His feelings about Felix Raines were complex. While he was thankful that Felix took in Melinda and her daughter back in the day, he couldn’t forget how Felix mistreated them, which made him furious.
He had never held a grudge in his life, but Felix Raines seemed like his bitter enemy.
Upon hearing that his prospective son-in-law sent gifts and money to his nemesis every New Year, his resentment towards Felix was rekindled with old hatred.
And a bit of jealousy.
This prospective son-in-law had once brought over some wine, instructing that it be served to guests at a party, with only a bottle of cologne Sienna made herself as a personal gift to him.
This was different from sending cigarettes, wine, and money to the countryside in such a ceremonious manner.
But setting aside his grudge with Felix Raines and adopting the perspective of an elder, Quentin Thorne appreciated Simon Forrester’s filial piety and his ability to keep personal matters separate from family obligations.
Moreover, Quentin Thorne had never really been involved in Sienna’s upbringing, so when it came to her marriage, he didn’t dare to oppose openly.
The reason he never interfered in Sienna’s relationship like he did with Mina and Seth Sutton was because he understood his eldest daughter was independent and smart. Her choice of Simon Forrester indicated he was not lacking.
Quentin Thorne sighed, shook his head, sighed again, and shook his head again, filled with helplessness. He looked at his beautiful, elegant eldest daughter sitting in front of him, and he couldn’t bear the thought.
.
Sienna Thornton waited for a while and didn’t hear Quentin Thorne’s response. She smiled, got up, walked to his side, leaned over, and hugged him, saying, "Dad, please trust me. I’m sure I’ll be happy! I promise you!"
For some reason, when she said this, Quentin Thorne felt a bittersweet twinge. He wondered if he was the obstacle to his daughter’s happiness, forcing her to assure him.
He couldn’t bear it and patted her back, conceding, "Since you love him, Dad will surely support you."
"No, you not only have to support him, but you also have to genuinely like him, that’s the only way I’ll be truly happy."
"Alright, Dad will do as you wish."
Sienna Thornton knew that once Quentin Thorne agreed, he wouldn’t trouble Simon Forrester anymore. She felt relieved and satisfied, standing up and sitting down again.
Father and daughter chatted about other trivial matters before Sienna Thornton returned to her room to rest.
-
Friday night.
Knowing that tomorrow was the weekend and she wouldn’t need to get up early, Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester lingered at the dormitory of the design institute until quite late before heading back.
Quentin Thorne told her to bring Simon Forrester to the Thorne family’s old house for a meal the next afternoon, saying that Old Mrs. Thorne wanted to celebrate Quentin Thorne’s birthday.
This was the first time Quentin Thorne had actively asked Sienna Thornton to invite Simon Forrester to a meal, and at the Thorne family’s old house at that, so Sienna Thornton knew that Quentin Thorne was true to his word and genuinely accepted Simon Forrester.
After her bath, she told Simon Forrester about this over the phone. Simon Forrester was quite happy and started thinking about what gift to bring for Quentin Thorne.
Sienna Thornton said that though it was a belated birthday, it was really just an excuse for the elderly to see their son, and no gift was necessary—just being there was enough.
Simon Forrester, however, insisted on bringing a gift.
Sienna Thornton eventually ignored him and went to sleep.
The next morning, she first went to Melinda Linton’s place, and not long after she arrived, Quentin Thorne also turned up, carrying a chicken in one hand and a goose in the other. After a while, he disappeared into the kitchen to make stewed goose for Melinda.
Sienna Thornton was quite helpless about this.
Initially, when she moved into the Thorne house, she refrained from visiting Melinda Linton on weekends, opting to stay at the Thorne residence, thinking Quentin Thorne might not go to Melinda’s if she was around.
But it turned out the opposite. She ended up alone with Ian Grant and his mother at the Thorne residence while Quentin Thorne went to Melinda’s, come rain or shine, at the break of dawn.
She finally realized that Quentin Thorne visiting Melinda Linton on weekends wasn’t really for seeing his daughter at all. As for the real reason, she didn’t dare to think too much about it.
.
After lunch, Simon Forrester came over from the old house.
Since they also needed to return to Melinda Linton’s place that evening, Sienna Thornton didn’t drive her own car, opting to ride in his car to Old Mrs. Thorne’s place.
It was their first time at the Thorne family’s old house, so they followed Quentin Thorne’s Audi as they didn’t know the way.
Midway, seeing the Audi heading toward Braden University’s old campus, Simon Forrester said, "Your grandmother might live in the Braden University staff quarters."
Sienna Thornton didn’t think so: "Though the back of Braden University’s old campus is indeed a villa area for the professors, isn’t the Thorne family’s old house supposed to be their ancestral home?"
Simon Forrester laughed: "You must have misunderstood the Thorne family’s history. What kind of ancestral residence could the Thorne family possibly have in Brimfield?"
Sienna Thornton: "???"
Simon Forrester said: "You’ve already been to the old family home, and you still don’t know that the Thorne family only established roots in Brimfield from your great-grandfather’s generation? Your great-grandfather came to the city as a poor student and didn’t make much of himself—just a Braden University staff member, with his greatest achievement being sending several sons to study at Braden University. Some of them later became officials or went into business. But even the officials were just small-time, like your own grandfather; otherwise, why would he have been forced by the Grant family to make the old Thorne marry Aunt Grant back then?"
Hearing the hidden mockery about the Thorne family’s humble origins, Sienna Thornton rolled her eyes at him: "Can you focus on the main point? After all that talk, I still don’t know how it relates to the Thorne family having an ancestral residence or not."
