Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 464 - 442: Holding Then Pretending Not to Know (4 Updates)
Simon Forrester had a few drinks at Jack Hawthorne’s place and called for a designated driver to take him home.
As soon as he entered the empty house, he felt a bit out of place, especially after drinking, he missed his sweet Sienna even more.
After his shower, while he was still thinking about it, Sienna Thornton’s call came in.
He picked up and said with a dull smile, "You didn’t call me all day, what were you busy with?"
"Grandma came over, so it was just chatting and eating, doesn’t seem like much to be busy with. But tomorrow is a workday, Thornton and his daughter won’t be home during the day, and I don’t want to face Ian, so I plan to wander around nearby, get familiar with the surroundings."
"That works too, just be safe." Simon Forrester put the dirty clothes into the washing machine, set it up, and left the laundry room. As he walked, he asked Sienna Thornton, "If you get bored during the workday, do you want to come help at The Forresters?"
"Have you found your new assistant?"
"Not yet, you could help me pick someone."
Sienna Thornton always thought she had a good eye for people, so she happily agreed, saying she would go to The Forresters on Tuesday to find him.
They talked about trivial things for a while, and Sienna, who hadn’t taken a nap at noon, started to feel a bit sleepy. Just as she was about to hang up, Simon Forrester suddenly said, "I asked around about Mina Thorne tonight."
That perked Sienna right up. "Oh? Tell me, I’m listening."
"Basically, people say Mina Thorne is pretty aloof, not prone to conflicts, but also not very sociable. Apart from not being able to form deep friendships, she’s actually easy to get along with. But..."
It’s always the important stuff that comes after the turn, and Sienna’s heart was in her throat, both curious and tense. "But what?"
"She’s very possessive. Once, she snapped and got violent when her ex-boyfriend got too close to another woman."
Sienna was dumbfounded for a few seconds and asked, "How violent?"
"She slapped him..." Simon Forrester paused, "and kicked him in the groin."
Sienna: "..."
It took her a second to understand "kicked in the groin," and once she figured it out, she patted her chest and laughed, "I thought it was something really serious."
Simon Forrester concluded, "Anyway, people like that, better not to provoke them. Be a bit careful when you’re around her. She looks sturdier than you; if she gets physical, you might not be able to handle it."
Sienna laughed, "I’m not stealing her man, why would she get physical with me?"
Hearing how lightly she took it, Simon Forrester felt a bit frustrated, lowered his voice, and asked, "Are you being disobedient again?"
Sienna placated, "I’m listening, I’m listening. I’ve noted it down!"
They talked a bit more about other things, said goodnight to each other, and then went to sleep.
.
On Wednesday, Sienna Thornton got up early as she planned to go to The Forresters.
When she went downstairs, Quentin Thorne and Ian Grant’s mother-daughter duo were having breakfast.
Seeing her rise early even though she wasn’t working, Quentin Thorne asked with concern, "You finally have a holiday, why not sleep a bit more?"
Sienna was about to speak when Ian, who was bringing her a bowl of millet porridge, intentionally placed it heavily on the table.
She glanced at Ian, said "Thank you," and continued talking to Quentin Thorne, "I’m just idling at home anyway, might as well go help at The Forresters."
Quentin Thorne seemed a bit displeased when he heard this and said, "Just focus on your own career. Don’t worry about The Forresters’ matters. If you handle it well, you gain nothing; if not, they’ll blame you."
Sienna chuckled, "I’m not really worrying about anything. They just need to hire a new assistant for the chairman, so I should at least check, right?"
When she said this, Mina Thorne, sitting opposite, surprisingly took the initiative to ask, "Are they hiring a male or female assistant?"
Sienna thought she might have someone to recommend, so she asked, "Either is fine, do you have someone suitable to introduce?"
Mina Thorne shook her head, "No, I just wanted to remind you not to place a woman around your husband."
Ian tapped her daughter’s leg under the table and whispered, "Why meddle in their affairs? Quickly finish eating and get to work!"
Mina Thorne didn’t say anything after that.
Sienna gave her a smile and said, "Thank you."
On the other side, Quentin Thorne’s face turned worse, and he sighed, "A handsome and rich man has too many temptations. Even if he doesn’t seek trouble, others will come looking for him... Ah! If it weren’t for your liking him, I really wouldn’t want to agree!"
"There are still good, faithful men," Sienna laughed, "Aren’t you one?"
While she said this, she glanced at Ian, who looked secretly pleased and proud, as if quite smug about Quentin Thorne being well-behaved after marriage.
.
Sienna Thornton arrived at The Forresters exactly at nine.
Having not seen Simon Forrester for three days, she was full of excitement in the elevator. When she reached the floor of the chairman’s office, she saw the door was open and cheerfully ran over.
Simon Forrester was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window behind his desk, overlooking Brimfield’s streetscape.
He was in a dark suit, broad-shouldered and narrow-hipped, standing tall.
Sienna felt a stir in her heart, quietly approached, tip-toed, and covered his eyes from behind, speaking in a strange tone, "Guess who I am..."
He curved his lips into a smile, grasped her hand, kissed it softly, then turned around and wrapped her in his arms.
She was wearing flat ankle boots, so while she stood, her head only reached his chin, compelling her to look up at him, while he gazed down deeply at her.
"Coming so early?" he asked, a clear smile on his lips.
Her eyes nearly squinted shut from smiling, "I wanted to see you sooner."
He clearly didn’t buy it, "You went out yesterday, if you really wanted to see me, why didn’t you come yesterday?"
"Didn’t think about it yesterday, more so today..."
What a statement, saying it was worse than not saying anything.
Simon Forrester looked a bit hurt, hugging her as he sat down in the executive chair. After just sitting for a couple of minutes, she wriggled to get up, face flushed, "The door’s not closed, if someone passes by, it won’t be good to be seen."
Saying so, she moved to sit in the guest chair opposite Simon Forrester, earnestly pulled out a notebook from her bag, and asked, "When is someone coming for the interview? I need to schedule today’s time and work properly."
Having not spent time with her for several days and just having hugged her, seeing her quickly enter work mode, Simon Forrester felt a bit hurt, said with some emotion, "I’ll have Gavin Gale come in later, you can ask him."
"Got it!" Sienna Thornton jotted a few words in her notebook, noticed he wasn’t moving, just watching her, and then gestured towards the phone with her chin, "Call Gavin Gale."
Simon Forrester, dissatisfied, asked, "What’s the rush?" Saying that, he got up to lock the office door...
