Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 189 - 187: Onboarding
Once Old Master Forrester asked the question, all eyes in the room turned to Sienna Thornton.
Sienna Thornton remained composed and answered calmly, "Young Mr. Ford and I are neighbors."
Bianca Fordham was doubtful: "Isn’t Jules’ unit designed as one apartment per floor? How are there neighbors?"
Sienna Thornton smiled, "We occasionally meet in the elevator as we live on different floors."
Bianca Fordham scrutinized her with a sharp gaze, pausing momentarily on Sienna’s luxurious fall season shirt, but she didn’t ask further.
Old Master Forrester nodded, "Those who live in Jules’ complex are all rising elites! It seems young Thornton has some capability!"
After he finished speaking, he placed the resume on the table and urged Simon Forrester again, "Call your dad, have him connect quickly. We’re waiting for him to meet her!"
Simon Forrester said, "He just sent a message saying he’s driving and asks us to wait for twenty minutes. He should be ready by then."
The group continued to wait.
A while later, the projector screen showed a video call request. Simon Forrester picked up the remote on the table, and immediately a middle-aged man with thin-framed glasses appeared, looking quite young, about forty, with sharp features resembling Simon Forrester.
Zane Forrester said, "Good evening everyone. Oh, no, it’s morning in China, good morning everyone."
Simon Forrester replied, "Good morning, Dad."
Old Master Forrester added, "Zane, the lawyer Jules recommended is here, take a look."
Sienna Thornton greeted, "Hello, Mr. Forrester."
Zane Forrester’s smile was consistently warm and friendly on the screen, showing a benevolent appearance.
After greeting Sienna Thornton, he got straight to the point: "I’ve reviewed Lawyer Thornton’s resume. Coincidentally, I recently had dinner with a friend who teaches at Harvard Law School and learned about Lawyer Thornton’s background from him. After careful consideration, I think Lawyer Thornton is suitable for the position of general manager of the legal department."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Bianca Fordham immediately opposed, "Zane, Lawyer Thornton does not have experience managing corporate legal affairs; she has always served as a lawyer in law firms. The work in a law firm is different from corporate legal work; the role of a general manager of legal affairs has multiple responsibilities. I believe you, as someone who has always overseen the legal department, should be fully aware, don’t you think this decision seems a bit rash?"
Zane Forrester smiled lightly, "Let’s not complicate things. Isn’t that what a probation period is for?"
Bianca Fordham wanted to object further, but Old Master Forrester sternly interjected, "Zane is right! Let’s have Lawyer Thornton start first. After the probation period, if she’s truly unsuitable, there’s still time to make changes!"
Bianca Fordham felt helpless and gave Sienna Thornton a hateful glance.
After the meeting, Old Master Forrester, feeling tired, said he wanted to go home to rest and asked Simon Forrester to take him back. He also instructed Steven Chapman to accompany Sienna Thornton to complete her employment procedures.
Simon Forrester agreed, looking down to message Sienna Thornton: "I’ll take the old man home first. I’ll come back for lunch with you around noon. Call me if you need anything. (Kiss)"
After sending the message, he stood up and brushed against Sienna Thornton’s palm as he passed by.
Sienna Thornton lightly pursed her lips, standing with an unchanged expression.
After a while, only Bianca Fordham, Steven Chapman, and she were left in the office.
Steven Chapman continued smiling, "Lawyer Thornton, please wait for me outside. I need to report something to Mr. Forrester."
"Okay." Sienna Thornton walked out to the guest area to wait.
She took a moment to check her phone and saw Simon Forrester’s message, feeling a bit sweet inside. She replied, "Since you’re back, have lunch with the elders before coming. I can handle things here, don’t worry."
No further reply came—Simon Forrester probably wasn’t available.
She waited outside for a moment before Bianca Fordham and Steven Chapman finally came out.
Bianca Fordham had dropped her previous cold demeanor and now approached Sienna Thornton with a friendly smile, taking her hand, and said, "Young Thornton, I was a bit harsh earlier. Please don’t take it to heart. I’m straightforward and mean no harm."
Sienna Thornton was puzzled but maintained a composed smile, "I understand, Mr. Forrester."
Bianca Fordham exchanged a few more polite words before leaving in high heels. Her figure remained alluring, well-maintained, and not at all like someone nearing sixty, looking at most in her forties.
The Forrester Family members all appeared youthful, including Simon Forrester, who looked much younger than his thirties, more like someone in their mid-twenties.
"Lawyer Thornton?"
Sienna Thornton snapped back to reality and greeted the newcomer, "Mr. Chambers, hello, hello."
Steven Chapman gestured with his hand, "Let’s go this way. I’ll take you to the management department for your onboarding."
"Thank you."
As the elevator doors closed, Steven Chapman remarked, "I didn’t expect the new general manager of legal affairs to be you."
Sienna Thornton smiled without responding.
Bianca Fordham’s attitude shift was definitely due to something Steven Chapman had said. While she could guess the general reason, she couldn’t be sure if it aligned with her suspicions.
Steven Chapman continued, "I heard about the investigation by the bar association. There are internal people at Vantage targeting you. It’s quite fortuitous that Thomas Reed placed you at The Forresters."
Upon hearing this, Sienna Thornton’s eyes darkened, her expression turning cooler.
So, it was internal staff at Vantage who initiated the bar association investigation...
"I’ll inform the management department to finalize your position a month later. We’re all in the same circle, so just communicate verbally if you need anything; it’s all manageable! Treat us as peers, and remember, I’m an old classmate of your mentor for over ten years!"
Sienna Thornton collected herself and politely nodded with a smile, "Thank you, Mr. Chambers."
Steven Chapman’s words were illuminating, aligning closely with Sienna Thornton’s instincts. He indeed mistook her as an additional informant placed in The Forresters by Thomas Reed. He must’ve reported this to Bianca Fordham, which explained her drastic change in attitude.
However, once they mentioned this incident to Thomas Reed and he clarified, all misunderstandings would unravel, leaving her in opposition to Bianca Fordham, Steven Chapman, and others.
Nonetheless, Sienna Thornton wasn’t afraid of conflict; she never shied away from a challenge. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Sienna Thornton completed her onboarding at the management department, receiving her employee meal card, access card, and work card, before returning with Steven Chapman to the legal department on the thirty-fifth floor.
The Forrester’s legal department was indeed a major department, occupying an entire large floor on its own with a detailed organizational structure comprising non-litigation, litigation, tax, contract, investment, risk control, and legal support groups.
Each division had a dedicated specialist and several clerks. The specialists were typically graduates of top domestic universities with master’s degrees in law, while the clerks at least held bachelor’s degrees in law with licenses.
Steven Chapman took Sienna Thornton around to each division’s office, introducing her as the new general manager.
