Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 172 - 170: Longing
Just as Sienna Thornton was preparing to start her job at The Forresters, Melinda Linton had a conflict with Jared Raines’ plump wife and was scolded by Felix Raines to the point of almost having a heart attack. Jenna Raines called Sienna Thornton, and she and Simon Forrester immediately rushed to Wrayhaven.
Upon arriving at the Raines Family’s house, Sienna Thornton almost got into a fight with Felix Raines and his son. Fortunately, Simon Forrester persuaded her otherwise. Eventually, they took Melinda Linton and her daughter back to Brimfield overnight.
The old apartment had been cleaned a few days earlier, and Sienna Thornton directly settled Melinda Linton and her daughter there. Simon Forrester returned home first, leaving Sienna Thornton to accompany Melinda Linton.
Naturally, as someone who had never left the Raines Family, Melinda Linton cried intermittently. Sienna, already upset about the bullying, felt somewhat annoyed watching her cry. However, despite the annoyance, she didn’t dare to leave Melinda Linton and her daughter alone in the unfamiliar apartment. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
During those days, she stayed in the old apartment, taking Jenna Raines to baking school during the day, teaching her how to use Brimfield’s subway and buses, and taking Melinda Linton to the nearby market and supermarket to familiarize her with the routes, even buying new clothes for Melinda.
She spent five days in the old apartment, finally getting everything settled, before asking Simon Forrester to come and take her home.
Simon Forrester came after work in the evening, bringing many supplements for Melinda Linton and inviting them to a meal at the Pangu Wenqi, a place offering a view of the Water Cube.
The restaurant features various ethnic characteristics, with over twenty differently styled private rooms, all decorated with selections from internationally renowned brands, allowing guests to feel the royal nobility throughout.
The main feature of this high-end restaurant is its understated luxury. In the private room, one can enjoy exotic cuisine and, with a turn of the head, see the beautiful Water Cube under the night sky. The softly changing lights in the room reflect and shine together, making one feel refreshed and invigorated.
Simon Forrester ordered a table full of dishes, and during the meal, he toasted Melinda Linton several times, making her feel somewhat at a loss.
Jenna Raines was also very happy, as she could finally leave the mountains like her sister. Although it was entirely Melinda’s credit, it didn’t matter; as long as she could get out, many possibilities awaited...
Jenna Raines anticipated her beautiful future when she suddenly felt a stern gaze on her. Looking up, she saw Sienna Thornton quietly watching her.
She straightened up abruptly, waiting for Sienna Thornton’s admonition.
Unexpectedly, Sienna Thornton instead smiled and raised her glass toward her: "Jenna, I’ll be quite busy with work next, so I ask you to take care of Mom a bit more. Come, I toast you, my dear sister."
Sienna Thornton had never been so gentle with her before, and she was both flattered and overwhelmed. Carefully, she picked up her glass of mulberry juice and clinked glasses with Sienna Thornton: "It’s my duty, thank you for bringing me to the city."
"You’re welcome, we’re all family." Sienna Thornton took a sip of red wine, revealing deep dimples on her cheeks.
Simon Forrester quietly observed everything.
He had long noticed that Sienna Thornton wasn’t particularly fond of her half-sister, and the politeness just now felt more like a formal exchange in the workplace, lacking genuine gratitude.
The city’s temptations were numerous, and if Jenna Raines harbored any ill intentions, she could become a ticking time bomb next to Sienna Thornton. However, to rescue Melinda Linton from her plight, they had to accept Jenna Raines.
Both Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester had considered these matters.
After dropping Melinda Linton and her daughter back at the old apartment, Simon Forrester took Sienna Thornton home. In the car, he tentatively asked, "About your sister, can you keep an eye on her? If anything seems off, let me know immediately."
Sienna, after drinking, only nodded heavily, her face not showing any emotion.
The car got on the high overpass, and the splendid night view of Brimfield New District unfolded before their eyes. Sienna Thornton lowered the sun visor, squinted, and asked, "When are you taking me to join The Forresters? I need to start earning money quickly, otherwise, I can’t afford their living expenses."
Simon Forrester freed his right hand and habitually pinched her shoulder and neck, whispering, "I was just about to tell you, I have to go to The Northeast the day after tomorrow, and will only be back before the festival. Do you want to join The Forresters tomorrow, or wait until after the festival?"
Sienna Thornton took out her phone to check the calendar: "After the festival, tomorrow is too rushed."
"Okay."
After they drove a bit further, Simon Forrester asked again, "Are you coming with me to The Northeast the day after tomorrow?"
Sienna Thornton hesitated, thought for a moment, and said, "I can’t help worrying about Mom; she’s still not familiar with the way to the market. I’ll stay with her for a few more days while you’re away."
"Alright," Simon Forrester replied readily, though his voice carried a hint of disappointment.
Sienna Thornton noticed this too. Hugging his arm, she rubbed her cheek against it for a while, and asked with a giggle, "We haven’t seen each other for several days; did you miss me?"
Simon Forrester rubbed her cheek in return, playing along, "Of course, I missed you. Did you?"
"I did too," Sienna Thornton said, holding his hand to rub against her cheek, "But if you miss me, why didn’t you call to ask when I would be home?"
"Because I know you have your own plans, and I just need to support you."
Sienna Thornton thought this was reasonable, and the matter was forgotten.
There were few cars in Brimfield at night, and they soon returned to Simon Forrester’s apartment in the New District.
As soon as the car pulled into a parking spot, Simon Forrester turned off the engine and immediately hugged her, "These past days have been tough. Are you sure you don’t want to join me in The Northeast?"
"No," Sienna Thornton pushed him away, "Come on, let’s go up first."
*** Sweet daily life here ***
The next day.
When Sienna Thornton woke up, Simon Forrester had already left for work.
After lunch, she called Melinda Linton to find out that everything was normal, so she didn’t go to the old apartment. Instead, she went to the fresh market downstairs, buying steaks and sashimi to prepare dinner for Simon Forrester.
The steak was still marinating, and knowing Simon Forrester’s return time, she took the opportunity to go to the walk-in closet to pack his luggage.
This time, he was going to The Northeast for a week, so she packed ten white French shirts into his suitcase and added seven different styles of ties.
Tungsten grey, navy blue, and brown formal styles would work for daytime business occasions, while purple and polka dot colors could be used for evening leisure events.
Finally, she packed three of his frequently worn dark suits for work, along with several sets of trousers and T-shirts.
As she was locking the suitcase, a little train on its track in her mind suddenly hit a junction, causing her to sit on the bench and think for a while.
After a moment, she ran back to the room, opened the bedside drawer, took out a small blue box, and secretly placed it at the bottom of the suitcase...
