"You take a few new recruits, and I'll take some of the young ones," Levi said, pointing at Wu Hen.

Wu Hen led four Prison Guards toward a part of the town overgrown with swamp redwoods.

The old houses here were grafted with the swamp trees; the low houses seemed to have become incubators for the trees, with branches extending from the broken windows and firmly grasping the walls.

When the gaze penetrated those hollow, damaged spots, one would always meet a pair of tense and strange eyes, unable to distinguish whether they were humans or some other kind of creature in the gloom.

Although the Da Xuan Dynasty was technologically advanced, there were many displaced people. They themselves were beings that hadn't evolved, not easily coveted by powerful Predators, needing only minimal food and a few weapons for self-defense to barely survive on this land.

So, it wasn't just Wu Hen and others who had just entered Evil Spirit Town looking for weapons; those wanderers who had come here also banded together, collecting whatever usable materials they could from the town.

"Bai Luobo, we found some ironware here, should we take it?" Prison Guard Cheng Liang asked.

"What level of craftsmanship?" Wu Hen hadn't entered the house.

"Just ordinary workshop ironware, there's even the iron smith's name engraved on it. These probably don't have any superpower," Cheng Liang said.

"Fine, take it, we'll at least have evolved from the Stone Age to the Bronze and Iron Age," Wu Hen nodded.

Cheng Liang emerged from the house, holding the ironware. Just as he was about to distribute the broken iron blades to the others, a group of wanderers surrounded them, eyeing them with ill intent.

"We found these items first, put everything down!" a leading man among the wanderers commanded.

Wu Hen glanced at the group; there were at least a dozen of them, looking well-fed rather than gaunt.

Prison Guard Cheng Liang was dissatisfied, instinctively reaching for his gun, only to find nothing at his waist and then clenched his fist.

"It's fine; just a few pieces of ironware, let's give it to them," Wu Hen patted Cheng Liang's shoulder, not intending to conflict with the wanderers.

After handing over the ironware to them, Wu Hen also sized up the wanderer leader.

"You know what's good for you," the wanderer leader said.

"Have you encountered anything here?" Wu Hen asked.

"We've just arrived too. Suddenly, a great steel city descended from the sky, occupying our underground fortress. Unwilling to become their slaves, we hid here," one of the wanderers said.

"Oh, oh, same for us, to hell with Steel Eagle City," Wu Hen nodded and cursed casually.

"Yeah, to hell with those city folk!"

The wanderers walked off in another direction. Much like Wu Hen and his group, they were collecting information about the town while searching for weapons they could use.

Wu Hen led the four Prison Guards towards other small workshops. Those were brick-and-tile houses without even windows, with rusty parts scattered all over the ground.

"There's a workbench over here that's still intact; let's see if I can assemble these parts on the ground into an Elemental Weapon Pistol," Cheng Liang said.

"You have that skill?" the others were surprised.

"Just a personal hobby; actually, I wanted to be a weapon engineer before I became a Prison Guard. The Elemental Weapon Pistol is like an entry-level project in this field," Cheng Liang replied.

"Let me know what you need, and I can find it for you," Wu Hen said.

Cheng Liang told Wu Hen what parts and accessories he needed, describing their material, shape, and style.

Wu Hen, with his Spiritual Vision, could easily find a cigarette butt in a giant garbage dump, and even though he was clueless about gun parts, he could quickly find them with his ability.

"Speaking of which, this place used to be an old town, inhabited by natives," the other Prison Guards began scouting the surroundings.

They noticed that this house used to be a home for a family of four. The man had his own small storeroom; judging by the vine-covered shelves, there had been many self-assembled weapons on there, but the complete, ready-made ones had been taken, and parts scattered on the ground were buried in the soil, neglected by all.

"Why are you guys starting to care about the local history of this town?" Wu Hen was puzzled to see the other Prison Guards gathering this information.

"The birth of an Evil Spirit doesn't come from nowhere; they are often related to the people and events of their dwelling place. The more we understand the past of this place, the clearer we can understand the birth of Evil Spirits and likewise find the root means to deal with them," Female Prison Guard Hu Lu said.

"Yeah, Evil Spirits possess strange powers, which are similar to the different rules of otherworldly. Our technology will fail, and your Transcendent abilities will be suppressed. The best way to confront Evil Spirits then becomes understanding their origins; because Evil Spirits have their taboos and fears. The more powerful they are, the more they tend to follow their own laws when hunting. If we grasp the source of their laws, we can avoid them well."

The Prison Guards spoke one after another, clearly well-educated and with a basic understanding of the various creatures that existed in Otherworldly Dust.

Wu Hen nodded silently to himself. If the people of his homeland had access to such widespread knowledge, perhaps not so many would have perished when they first fell into the Otherworldly Dust.

The Da Xuan Dynasty clearly included Evil Spirits in their textbooks, demanding that every citizen, especially public officials, seriously study them. To some extent, these officials were also tasked with the duty of exorcising Evil Spirits.

"I think I've discovered something; the kryptonite of technology isn't the Transcendent but the bizarre," Wu Hen had a flash of insight.

"So, is our technology the kryptonite of the Transcendent? It seems that you Transcendent have quite an edge over the bizarre as well," Cheng Liang commented.

"Possibly, a similar restraining relationship might exist on parallel dimensions, haha," Wu Hen laughed.

And he laughed with genuine pleasure.

It was as if he had uncovered a significant secret within the Otherworldly Dust!

"Do you mean that you can't use your Extraordinary Power now because of the higher-dimensional bizarre?"

"Hmph, I don't know about a higher dimension, but what's suppressing my power is Forbidden Magnetism, the same Flying Claw Restriction you used to capture me. Isn't that your Da Xuan black technology!" Wu Hen replied irritably.

"Oh, right. So the restraint relationship you mentioned still holds," Cheng Liang said.

"I've assembled it perfectly, good as new. An Elemental Weapon Pistol, which only requires a bit of Yuan You to fire bullets that will scatter an evil spirit's soul!" Cheng Liang said somewhat proudly, his personal hobby proving crucial at this moment.

"What about you? Did you find out anything?" Wu Hen asked the female Prison Guard Hu Lu who had come along.

"All I know is that the male head of the household had an affair with the lady next door. It doesn't seem to have much to do with the town's history, nor does it seem likely to give birth to Evil Spirits," the female Prison Guard Hu Lu sighed, coming up empty-handed.

"That's not necessarily the case. The whole family of four disappeared out of the blue. Maybe the wife, out of love turned hate, purchased a ton of poison, then gave it to the whole family to drink. After that, she might have turned into a vengeful Evil Spirit, cruelly killing off the woman who destroyed her family. Evil Spirits are born just like that, according to the textbook. Plus, this town is near a Dark Energy Spring Eye, where Dark Radiation is potent and most likely to foster Evil Spirits!" At that moment, Cheng Liang engaged in a rich flight of fancy.

The others began to roll their eyes.

Not even the least sought-after murder mystery room in their town would stoop to write such a trite storyline!

"So basically, the Evil Spirits originate from native residents of this small town?" Wu Hen inquired.

"Pretty much," was the reply.

"I've been to Jungle Town before, where there was a kind of Evil Spirit that could not make a sound," Wu Hen recounted.

"A Silent Evil Spirit, those are classics in the textbooks. But with time and the world evolving, these textbook Evil Spirits are rarely encountered. Probably because we're all too familiar with their tricks… Did you use your Extraordinary Power to smash her with a punch?" Cheng Liang asked.

"Of course. I punched it into an iron plate octopus," Wu Hen replied calmly.

"The Silent Evil Spirits are definitely local residents. They are mostly mutants with hearing issues. Ordinary people can't hear the roar of engines because it's ultrasonic, but those spirits suffered terribly from engine noise while alive and couldn't sleep at night. And as you know, someone who doesn't sleep at night becomes incredibly violent under the taint of Dark Radiation…" the female Prison Guard Hu Lu explained.

"Heh, forget Evil Spirits, if I'm kept awake at night by noise from outside and neighbors above and below, I'll turn into a demon!" Wu Hen said.

"Have you encountered the textbook case of the Fire Evil Spirit?" Cheng Liang asked.

"No, I actually haven't been to many places inhabited by Evil Spirits," Wu Hen replied.

"Fire Evil Spirits are born out of fires. Many of our energy functions come with high temperatures and fire risks. Sometimes a whole village or town is burnt to ashes, giving rise to Fire Evil Spirits."

"I get it now; it's like the ghosts and demons we often talk about where I'm from," Wu Hen realized suddenly.

Yes, if myths exist in the Otherworldly Dust, then ghosts and demons are real too. But their origin isn't just resentment; resentment is merely a catalyst. What truly makes them powerful and difficult to defeat is technological pollution and the effects of Dark Radiation.

They could be called spirits, Evil Ghosts, or Zombie Evil Spirits, but in Da Xuan, they were uniformly known as Evil Spirits. They live in places where the glory of thriving technology doesn't reach, coexisting with humans yet fundamentally different from us.

"But after all this talk, we still don't know what kind of Evil Spirit is here."

"Why has it gotten dark so quickly?"

"We don't have any clues!"

"Let's find a reasonable shelter. There are usual places that Evil Spirits dread and dare not enter: temples, churches, houses of their loved ones when alive..."

The conversation was quite enjoyable, but Wu Hen suddenly had a clearer understanding of his previous experiences in the Otherworldly Dust.

However, they hadn't gotten any actual work done. Back in Jungle Town, he had at least known not to make any noise, but in Swamp Town, they had no useful information. He couldn't just draw his sword at the appearance of an Evil Spirit!

Bizarre powers were capable of lethal one-shot kills, and as a Transcendent Evolver under the influence of Forbidden Magnetism, he felt very vulnerable.
