Ignoring Belina, who was wearing a confinement ring and looked as if she had lost everything while joining her new inmates, Pei Yan withdrew his gaze and looked toward the other battlefields. The ground combat had reached its most intense moment. To Pei Yan's surprise, faced with an enemy ten times their number, the special envoy's garrison, which could have opted to surrender, chose not to lay down their weapons but kept fighting till the end. Unfortunately, this resistance achieved nothing but increasing casualties against the overwhelming superiority.
Looking around, only Little Friedrich, a mid-level Demon, was no match for Ye Ruozai, and he was captured alive even before Belina. Now, only Dieterma was left among the main offenders. He was being besieged by Elder Lin and two others, equivalent to eighth-level Awakened, and couldn't fend for himself. Meanwhile, Director Mei and Instructor Ni were also applying pressure two against one with ease.
Seeing this, Pei Yan turned and flew toward Bailang, who was in the most need of help. One-on-one, the two newly arrived upper-level Demons were evenly matched with him, but with Pei Yan joining in, this stalemate was instantly broken.
The Demon fighting Bailang sensed ill winds behind him and knew it was bad news. Hurriedly, he tried to evade by vaporizing himself, but was hit by multiple air bullets that exploded into his black mist. Once his vaporized state was broken, and he regained his physical form, Pei Yan had already appeared in front of him. The elder Demon tried to resist but found his surrounding source energy frozen, locked tightly within him.
Afterward, he felt large amounts of unknown gas uncontrollably rushing in through his nostrils and mouth, followed by waves of dizziness and body convulsions. Panicked, this Demon frantically mobilized source energy to try to break free and hold his breath, but it was too late; by the time he broke free from Pei Yan's control, his mind had already lost consciousness, and he blacked out.
Looking at Pei Yan, who was slightly fatigued and breathing heavily, Bailang was astounded. Despite witnessing countless battles and knowing just how terrifying this young man was, today's fight still reshaped his impression of Pei Yan. Like an autumn wind sweeping away leaves, he effortlessly crushed two upper-level Demons, which was already shocking. Then, he simply looked at the enemy in front of him—a single glance! Without even seeing how Pei Yan struck, the enemy had fainted.
The unknown was indeed the most terrifying!
Noticing Bailang looking at him as if he were a monster, Pei Yan chuckled lightly and said, "Why are you looking at me like this? Surprised? These people are only equivalent to seventh-level Awakened in our world. As a sixth-level Awakened, it's not so surprising for me to defeat them across levels, right? Don't tell me Demons never have cross-level victories."
"We do, and quite a lot." Bailang nodded and responded blankly, "But they're almost always heavily injured in a desperate turnaround. Very few handle it unscathed like you, oh right! There are really one or two such monsters." Bailang seemed to recall something and bitterly smiled, "I'm beginning to believe that rumor now."
"What are you talking about? What monster? What rumor?"
Faced with Pei Yan's queries, Bailang didn't answer him; he just waved his hand and instead asked, "How did you manage to subdue him?"
"Do you remember Raphael's dead brother at our first banquet?" Pei Yan left Bailang with this line, leaving him with a face full of memories and doubts as he turned and flew away.
Covering his slightly sore right eye, Six-Fold Ember Vanish! The ability of his right eye, awakened when reaching the pinnacle of the ninth level with external assistance, was preserved even after reverting to his own power. However, unlike the ninth-level state where he could use it at will, targeting an enemy a level higher cost Pei Yan considerable source energy and stamina. Fortunately, by sealing the source energy preventing the enemy from using the breath-holding technique, he forcibly infused a large amount of compressed carbon monoxide gas, causing the enemy to pass out from poisoning, which gave Bailang the illusion of a one-hit kill.
Having dealt with three Demons, Pei Yan headed straight for Dieterma. At this moment, Dieterma, though surrounded, was alert to everything around him. As he watched his subordinates being captured one by one and realizing his situation was hopeless, he was filled with despair and panic until he saw Pei Yan arriving. Hastily, he roused himself to repel the three attackers and shouted, "Stop! I have something to say!"
Elder Lin and the other two turned their gaze toward Pei Yan. Seeing him nod in agreement, they stopped and, standing at three different positions, surrounded Dieterma with Pei Yan.
Taking advantage of this opportunity to catch his breath, Dieterma looked up at Pei Yan and, in a low submissive voice, said, "I lost! Please spare my life! I and my family are willing to follow your orders from now on to make up for today's mistakes."
"Ah! I accept your surrender. Lock yourself up." Pei Yan coldly looked at the exhausted Dieterma and said.
"You promise not to harm me or my family! Swear it, and I will surrender immediately."
Listening to Dieterma's demands, Pei Yan grinned under his faceplate without speaking. After a moment of silence, when Dieterma still didn't receive an answer, he shouted desperately, "You won't even give a guarantee, not even a lie, to make me submit readily! What grudge do we have? None of your people are dead—only minor injuries, which mean nothing to us with abilities! You won't even forgive this!"
"Ah!" Faced with Dieterma's nearly frantic questions, Pei Yan sighed, removed his faceplate, took out a cigarette, and lit it nonchalantly. "Blame your kin."
"My kin, Little Friedrich? Yes, I was misled by him, and he with your people…"
"Nope, not him!" Pei Yan interrupted Dieterma's words, waving the cigarette, and pointed at Samikina. "It's him! His grand-niece and every Demon I've met taught me your world's survival rules—all about the law of the jungle where everyone has their stands and interests. Today's concession sets a precedent; tomorrow you'd be left with nothing. Today you injured my people, and with a light excuse, you surrender, and I forgive you. Tomorrow, others will dare to outright kill my people and drive me out. Dieterma, as a Demon, can't you understand this point?"
With this, Pei Yan glanced at Samikina and with a light smile said, "Mr. Samikina, am I right?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Mr. Shitang, you are indeed correct." Samikina smiled at Pei Yan's implied words, showing no displeasure.
Realizing this approach wasn't working, Dieterma turned to Samikina for a final effort: "Mr. Samikina, please! Please persuade Mr. Shitang to spare me, or at least my family! I am willing to atone myself. Thus, my family is willing to serve loyally and never betray the noble lineage! I also know many secrets within the emerging aristocracy that I am willing to disclose."
