One Piece: New Order-Chapter 122: The Fallout Between Garp and Sakazuki

A mushroom cloud of magma, several kilometers wide, erupted in the sky.

Ignoring the panicked civilians fleeing inland, Bullet walked toward the harbor, dragging Rayleigh’s severed head and body. He looked up at the massive explosion above and muttered, "Now that’s what I call a grand scene."

He found a step to sit on and casually tossed Rayleigh’s body to the side. Slumping down, he let out a breath and watched the battle raging overhead.

Thunderous booms echoed as bursts of white energy detonated high in the air. Shockwaves rippled across the sky in wide, white rings, only to be torn apart by wild clashes.

To the people on this small island in the South Blue, this kind of power was beyond imagination. All they felt was pure terror.

But that was expected. News didn’t travel well across these seas.

Most people never left their islands in their entire lives, and the strongest person they’d ever seen was likely a pirate wielding a large machete.

Even during the events at Sabaody Archipelago in the original story, there were ignorant pirates who tried to shoot Admiral Kizaru with a gun...

Purururu~ Purururu~

Standing on the warship at the harbor, observing the battle above, Carlo suddenly heard the Den Den Mushi ringing.

He answered it and said, "Hello~ This is Vice Admiral Sakazuki’s ship."

From the other end, Enel’s voice came through. "Big Brother Carlo! Where’s Uncle?"

Carlo glanced up. "He’s fighting... with Vice Admiral Garp."

A pause.

"Oh."

"..."

"..."

"HUH?!"

With a chuckle, Carlo asked, "What’s the matter?"

Enel finally remembered the reason he called. "Oh, right! Have Uncle Sakazuki and Vice Admiral Garp return immediately. Golden Lion attacked Marineford. He’s been subdued, but the base is half destroyed.

"Fleet Admiral Kong just got back from the Holy Land and is very angry. No one at Vice Admiral Garp’s end knows where he went. Luckily, you picked up the call. But still, they’re definitely getting chewed out when they return."

Carlo furrowed his brows. "I see. Got it."

Click.

He hung up, rubbing his temples. The Headquarters got attacked. This was bad...

Looking toward the sky, then at his own small frame, Carlo wisely decided against charging into the airspace. If he got caught between those two in their full fury, he might get pulverized by a single punch.

Instead, he turned to the island and scanned the area with Observation Haki, then shouted.

"Bullet!!!"

Bullet, lounging with his elbows resting on the steps behind him and eyes fixed on the sky, immediately stood up when he heard Carlo’s voice. Grabbing Rayleigh’s body, he dashed toward the ship.

Boom!

A blue afterimage crashed onto the deck, and the warship shook slightly as Bullet’s figure appeared, throwing aside the corpse in his hand.

"What’s wrong, Carlo?"

Carlo gazed at the wounded Bullet and sighed. He wasn’t surprised Rayleigh had died.

"It’s fine. I just need you to help stop the fight in the sky. Or maybe I’ll go."

Bullet looked confused. "Stop it? How exactly? Go up there just to get beaten down?"

Carlo shook his head with a wry smile.

"Headquarters was attacked by Golden Lion and Marineford’s half gone. Since those two up there abandoned their posts, they’re definitely getting called out for it. If we don’t stop them now and something worse happens, it’ll be a joke."

Bullet frowned slightly. "That bold? Someone actually dared to attack Marine HQ?"

Then glancing at Carlo’s build, he pulled him back.

"I’ll go. I can at least take a few more hits."

With that, he entered the Demon Mode, and before Carlo could reply, launched himself upward.

Thousands of meters in the air, the two berserk men clashed like maniacs.

There was no strategy. No reason. Just raw violence.

Whole bodies coated in Armament Haki, after separating, they turned and slammed into each other shoulder-first.

CRACK!

A burst of chaotic shockwaves exploded out, sharp as blades, cracking the sky where their limbs collided.

BOOM!!!

A ripple-like distortion spread across hundreds of meters, warping the air and making everything around them hard to see. The turbulent energy was so dense it felt almost solid.

Eyes wide with rage, Garp smashed a punch into Sakazuki’s gut, who snarled, locked both hands behind the older man’s head, and kneed him hard.

Boom!

The two flew apart again.

Gritting his teeth, Garp pulled back a fist covered in thick black Armament Haki. It looked like a huge dark weapon of destruction.

He swung it at Sakazuki with full force.

Whoosh!

A compressed air blast, several dozen meters wide, screamed through the sky toward the vice admiral.

Sakazuki’s right hand glowed with his powers as a blazing phantom of a tiger formed in front of him. Haki surging over it, he countered.

ROAR—

A massive fiery tiger’s head charged forward, roaring toward Garp.

When the two attacks collided, a violent burst of heat and pressure erupted, as if a second sun had appeared. A spherical shockwave, nearly a kilometer wide, began expanding.

Then—two sharp booms.

The shockwave burst apart from both sides, as if someone had punched holes through a balloon. Two powerful forces carved through the explosion, rushing toward the center again.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!..

White energy blasts lit up the sky in every direction as the figures of Garp and Sakazuki kept clashing in the air.

At the edge of the chaos, Bullet yelled, "Vice Admiral Sakazuki!!!"

But it was useless.

Within that kilometer-wide storm, it was like a forbidden zone. Even Conqueror’s Haki couldn’t penetrate it. His voice was swallowed by the thunderous roars.

Left with no choice, Bullet forced himself to activate the Six Paths Asura King form. His arms swelled three times in size, face twisted into something demonic, sharp fangs protruding from his mouth.

He kicked off and rocketed into the storm.

High above, Garp and Sakazuki raised their fists once more.

CRACK!

The deafening explosion rang in Bullet’s ears just as he arrived, finally understanding what Rayleigh must’ve felt.

No time to think, his giant arms reached out and clamped down on their wrists. With the multiplied strength barely holding them in place, he roared, "Headquarters has been attacked!!!"

Both Garp and Sakazuki were shocked. Their minds snapped back to clarity in an instant.

"What?!"

"What?!"

They turned toward Bullet together, but he didn’t let go yet.

"Golden Lion launched a surprise assault on Marine Headquarters. Vice Admiral Garp, you need to get back to your ship. Fleet Admiral Kong’s back from the Holy Land and is furious. He’s looking for you."

Bullet slowly released their arms as their auras calmed down.

The two stared at each other for a long moment, then let out low grunts and retracted their Haki.

Turning away, Garp flew toward Baterilla Island first. He wanted to see if there was still a body left to collect. This time, no one got in his way.

Sakazuki took a deep breath. He’d completely forgotten everything in the heat of battle.

"What about casualties at HQ?"

Bullet exhaled. "Word is that half of Marineford is destroyed. Not sure of the full details yet. Fleet Admiral Kong is also asking for you."

Sakazuki nodded. "Let’s go. We need to return as soon as possible."

The two of them descended toward the warship below.

Night.

Sakazuki and Bullet, both covered in bandages, were refueling their bodies.

The dining hall’s long table was lined with empty plates. Out on the deck, chunks of Sea King meat were still being chopped up and brought into the kitchen.

Bullet grabbed a huge leg bone and shoved it into his mouth. In just a few chomps, the meat was gone. He then tossed the clean bone aside and reached for another piece.

By comparison, Sakazuki ate with a composed but equally savage rhythm.

He bit directly into a large leg, bone and all.

Crunch. Crunch.

He chewed through the bone and swallowed the whole thing.

The meat and bone dissolved instantly in his stomach, converting into pure energy that rapidly restored his body...
