One Night With A Mysterious Billionaire (The Heiress's Revenge)-Chapter 81: Lena is missing
Sylvia paced the living room, biting her fingers in restless anxiety. Lena was supposed to be back by now, yet there was no sign of her. The house felt unusually quiet, almost suffocating. She had called Lena’s phone countless times, but there was no answer. Now it was switched off completely. Her heart pounded harder with every passing second.
She didn’t even know where Lena had gone. The girl hadn’t told her anything before leaving. Sylvia tried to calm herself, but the growing dread in her chest made it impossible. After several failed attempts to reach her, she finally decided to call the one person she had been avoiding for years, Liam.
Her fingers hovered over his number for a brief moment before she dialed. The call connected almost immediately.
For a second, she froze. Surprised that he was still using the same number after all these years, she forgot to speak.
"Sylvia? Is that you on the line?" Liam’s voice came through, deep and familiar, sending an unexpected wave of memories crashing into her.
"Yes... it’s me," she replied softly. Old wounds she had buried long ago began to resurface, memories she had refused to confront clawing their way back.
"It’s very late. Why are you calling me at this time?" Liam asked, his tone laced with confusion.
Sylvia’s brows furrowed, hurt flashing across her face. "So I cannot call you again? Is that what you’re saying?"
"No... no... no," Liam rushed to clarify. "You can call me anytime you want. It’s just... I haven’t heard from you in years, at least not on the phone. I’m a bit surprised, that’s all."
Sylvia inhaled deeply, forcing herself to focus. This wasn’t the time to dwell on the past.
"Lena is missing."
"What?" Liam’s voice shot up instantly. "I’m sorry, what do you mean she is missing?" he asked, fully alert now.
"I... I don’t know," Sylvia stammered, her composure crumbling. "I just got back home and checked on her, and she wasn’t around. I thought maybe she went out and would be back soon, but she didn’t return. I called her so many times, and she didn’t pick up. Now her phone is off." Her breathing became uneven as panic crept in.
"Slow down, Syvie," Liam said gently. "Where are you? Let me come to you. We’ll figure this out. I’m sure she just stepped out to get something."
"Don’t call me Syvie. We are not close," Sylvia snapped immediately.
There was a brief silence before Liam spoke again, more carefully this time. "Okay... Sylvia. I can’t come to your house since I presume you’re home and we wouldn’t your father to get the wrong idea. Let’s meet at Damon’s place. We can talk better there."
Sylvia hesitated for only a second before agreeing. She ended the call, grabbed a cardigan to shield herself from the cold, and hurried out. Her mind was a storm of worry as she drove to Damon’s house.
When she arrived, Damon and Liam were already there, speaking in hushed tones before she stepped in. They immediately turned to her, greeting her with concern evident on their faces.
Sylvia acknowledged them and sat down, resting her hand against her jaw as her thoughts spiraled. She picked up her phone again and dialed Lena’s number, but it still wouldn’t connect.
"Should I get you something to drink, Sylvia?" Damon asked as he walked toward her.
"No, I’m fine. Any news on Lena?" she asked quickly.
"So far, nothing," Damon replied. "We already have people looking for her, so it shouldn’t be long before we hear something. Let’s just hope it’s not what we’re thinking. Because Raymond will burn down Vegas City if anything happens to her."
Liam remained silent, his eyes fixed on Sylvia.
"When was the last time you saw her?" he suddenly asked.
"This morning," Sylvia answered. "Before I left for work. She didn’t go because she was sick. The last time she went to work in that condition, she fainted."
"What condition?" Liam asked immediately.
"Is she seriously sick?" Damon added, his concern deepening.
Sylvia shook her head. "Relax. She’s not sick. She’s fine... she’s just pregnant," she said quietly, her gaze dropping.
"What?" Liam and Damon exclaimed at the same time.
"Who does it belong to?" they both asked, shock written all over their faces.
Sylvia rolled her eyes. "Raymond, of course. Who else would it belong to?"
Damon ran a hand through his hair. "This is bad, Sylvia."
"I know," she muttered. "I told her to inform him, and she promised she would. But who would have thought she would go missing before telling Raymond?" A headache began to form, throbbing at her temples.
"Do you think Raymond will accept the pregnancy?" she asked cautiously.
Both men stared at her like she had grown two heads.
"You know what I mean," she added quickly.
"Considering he asked her to leave his house."
Liam exhaled slowly. "I don’t know. With the contract they both signed, it’s hard to tell what Raymond would want... or wouldn’t want."
Sylvia’s head snapped up. "What contract?"
Liam blinked, surprised. "
You know... the one she and Raymond signed. A two-year deal..."
Sylvia stared at him in disbelief. "Oh my God."
Her hand flew to her mouth as the realization sank in.
"You three are monsters," she said, her voice trembling with anger. "You made that poor girl sign a contract just to be with Raymond, and then he discarded her when he was done?" Her eyes widened in horror. "I can’t believe this. After all these years, one would think you three had changed, but instead, you’ve only gotten worse."
"Oh, that poor girl..."
Damon immediately raised his hands in surrender.
"Hey, don’t look at me. I was against the contract. By the time I found out, they had already signed it. I still condemn it."
Sylvia turned sharply to Liam. "What about you? I’m sure you said something about it?"
Liam’s expression darkened. "I did... but I was the one who drafted the contract."
Sylvia looked at him like she didn’t recognize him anymore. "It’s like I don’t even know you, Liam. After all these years, you’ve only gotten worse. You disgust me." Her voice was cold. "I cannot stay in the same room as you. I’ll go look for her myself."
She stood up and stormed out.
"I’m coming with you!" Damon shouted, hurrying after her.
Liam remained rooted to the spot for a moment, feeling hollow and shaken to his core, before he finally followed.
"I call shotgun!" Damon announced as he rushed to the front seat once they got outside, clearly anticipating Liam’s presence.
"I don’t think I want to ride with you," Sylvia said sharply, trying to block Liam from getting into her car.
Liam paused, guilt evident on his face. "Just bear with it for now. Until we find Lena. After that... you won’t have to see me again."
Sylvia rolled her eyes but didn’t argue further. She got into the driver’s seat, and soon the engine roared to life as they set off in search of Lena.
"I say we start from somewhere she might go to clear her head," Damon suggested. "With this pregnancy revelation, I’m sure she’d need some air."
Sylvia and Liam both turned to look at him.
"What?" Damon shrugged. "I would need air too if Raymond were the father of my child."
Despite the tension, they both nodded slightly, silently agreeing. Raymond was not an easy man to deal with.
"Well," Sylvia said after a moment, "I think I know the restaurant she goes to whenever she needs space."
"Then let’s start there," Liam replied.
With that, they drove off into the night, clinging to the hope that they would find Lena soon, while waiting anxiously for any update from the private investigator already working on uncovering her whereabouts.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Liam and Damon remained outside while Sylvia went in alone, clutching her phone tightly. Lena’s picture was displayed on the screen as she approached the waitress and then the manager, her voice trembling slightly as she asked if they had seen the young woman come in earlier that day. Both staff members shook their heads apologetically, offering no useful information. Their responses only deepened the knot of fear tightening in Sylvia’s chest.
Outside, Liam and Damon watched her through the glass, their expressions tense.
"Do you think we should tell Raymond?" Liam asked quietly, his gaze still fixed on Sylvia.
Damon exhaled, his jaw tightening. "Once we hear from Sullivan and Roman, we’ll have to. You and I both know he’s the only one with enough resources to find her quickly. And if anything happens to Lena..." He trailed off, shaking his head. "He would kill us."
Almost as if on cue, Liam’s phone began to ring. He glanced at the screen and answered immediately.
"Okay... they’ve found her last location," he said quickly. "Let me get Sylvia so we can head there right now."
