One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 93 — Ninety-three
Carefully, Alexander asked. "Do you know about your mother’s past? Did she tell you about herself?"
Serena stilled as she fell into deep thoughts. After a while, she shook her head. "She didn’t tell me anything."
Alexander was silent for a while, hesitation etched on his features. "Your mom has the same surname as Grandpa Miles."
Before Serena could process his words, he added. "When I was young, I heard that Grandpa Miles had a daughter. Her name was Regina Hale."
Serena froze, eyes bulging in disbelief. "How’s that possible?" She asked quietly as she lowered her head.
"My best bet is that you have a huge semblance to your mom. This could be the reason for Grandpa Miles’s questions earlier."
Serena was silent as she took in his words. After a while, she raised her head, her eyes were red as she stared at Alexander.
"So, you’re telling me that there is a major possibility that my mom is Grandpa Miles’s daughter." Serena asked, chuckling. Alexander nodded in response to her.
"This is absurd." She commented, baffled by the incredulity.
"You don’t have to worry. You have me here. I’ll help you investigate this matter at once."
Serena nodded. Her heart felt hopeful. Perhaps... she wasn’t alone in this life anymore.
The car ride was peaceful and silent. The couple battled with their own thoughts, and that was until the ringing of the phone cut through their thoughts.
"Your phone." Serena remarked.
Alexander picked the phone, and his expression darkened when he saw the caller ID. He tossed the phone aside, surprising Serena.
"You are not picking the call?" She asked, a trace of confusion flashing through her eyes.
"It’s not important." He answered. Serena studied him for a while, and kept quiet.
But it seemed the caller was persistent as the phone kept ringing. Serena looked at him, and urged. "What if it’s urgent? Why don’t you pick it and hear what the person has to say."
Alexander looked at the encouraging smile on her face, and he sighed. "I’m only doing this for you." He murmured, then took the phone.
"That means a lot." She chuckled.
Alexander picked the call, put it on speaker, and asked coldly. "What’s the matter?"
"Alexander, Rhea is dying and she requests to meet you one last time."
Alexander’s brows shot up as he and Serena exchanged suspicious glances.
"Dying?" He repeated.
"Yes." The woman’s urgent voice sounded. "She doesn’t have much time left."
Alexander looked at Serena as though he was asking for permission. Serena nodded, mouthing, "you can go."
"Alright. Send me the address." He said.
"You agreed?" The woman’s surprised voice rang out again.
"Isn’t that what you want?"
"Right. I’ll send it immediately."
Alexander didn’t reply as he disconnected the call.
"What do you think she’s up to?" He looked at Serena.
Serena shrugged. "I have no idea. You are visiting her, right? You’ll find out what she is up to."
"Wrong." He said, and her brows shot up. "We will find out together. We are visiting her together." He corrected.
Serena was silent as the car drove off.

Hospital, Ward>
Rhea was comfortably eating an apple as she looked at her mom who collapsed on the sofa.
"What did he say, Mom?" She asked, her eyes fixated on her.
Evelyn, Rhea’s mom, rubbed her forehead tirelessly. "He’s on his way."
Rhea chuckled. "See. I told you. He still cared about me the most." The corner of her lips tilted into a smug smile.
"Rhea, do you know how hard your dad is working to keep the company afloat?" Evelyn suddenly asked, diverting her daughter’s attention from the thought of Alexander.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked with her hands folded.
Evelyn sighed. "Your actions have impacted the company negatively. The stocks have fallen, investors have pulled out, and it’s only because of you." She paused, heaving heavily. "Tell me, did I do the wrong thing by pampering you a lot? When did you become this evil?"
Rhea rolled her eyes. "This is just a phase. It’d pass." She muttered without any care.
"Rhea!" Evelyn suddenly shouted, causing Rhea to flinch. "It doesn’t look like it’s a phase. Because of your stupidity, the company your dad worked so hard to build could be ruined. If anything happens to it, just know that it is all your fault."
Rhea opened her mouth to speak, but she closed it shut.
"Once Alexander arrives, I’ll beg him and ask for his forgiveness." She played with a strand of her hair. "I don’t believe he won’t forgive me."
Evelyn had a look of disbelief on her face. "You broke up with him, Rhea. You left him." She spat. "What makes you think he still has feelings for you? I heard he has moved on, and he was behind your issues. Why would you think he still has feelings for you?"
Evelyn paused, pacing around. "Now you are trying to play this stunt? He’d hate you more."
The argument in the ward grew sharper, cutting through the false calm of the hospital room.
"I had no choice," Rhea snapped, sitting upright on the bed. "Do you think he would have come if I told him I needed to speak with me? He is just angry at the moment, and I needed to use something which would give him no other option than to show up."
Evelyn stared at her daughter as though she was seeing her for the first time. "You lied about dying, Rhea. You lied about something this serious.""
Rhea scoffed, tossing the apple core into the trash. "So what? He is coming, isn’t he? That’s all that matters."
Evelyn shook her head slowly, disbelief etched into her tired features. "You are destroying everything. Your reputation. Your father’s company. Yourself. Why do you think you can do anything without caring about the consequences?"
"Stop acting like I don’t care," Rhea shot back. "I’m trying to fix things here. Alexander will fix it. He always does. And that’s why I need him here."
Before Evelyn could respond, the door to the ward was pushed open.
The sound was soft, but it felt deafening. Alexander appeared at the door with a blank look.
Rhea turned instinctively, already arranging her face into practiced weakness, her lips parting as though to call his name.
The words died in her throat as she took in Alexander’s expression.
Alexander stood by the door, his expression unreadable, his eyes cold and sharp. He had clearly heard enough.
Panic set into Rhea, and she was about to speak.
Until she laid her eyes on Serena.
Serena stepped in behind him, her gaze sweeping the room, taking in the apple on the table, the untouched IV stand, the tension hanging thick in the air.
Their eyes met, and something strange crackled.
Alexander took a step forward, his voice calm but dangerous. "You said you were dying. You lied."
Rhea’s expression turned pale. This wasn’t part of the plan!
