One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 67 — Sixty-seven
Finally, he opened his mouth to speak. "What is she doing here?" Although his voice was calm and quiet, the tremor underneath caused a cold sweat to break out on Grace’s back.
"I... erm... she..." Grace stammered, unable to come up with proper words.
"It’s a simple question, Mom." Alexander stretched the last word. "Why is she here?"
"I brought her here to see if you both could work things out." Grace closed her eyes as she answered. "You both had such a strong relationship. No matter what happened, I believe you both can still work things out." Seeing that he was silent, she gained more courage as she spoke not minding that Serena was in Alexander’s arms.
Rhea’s eyes met Serena’s and the former’s lips curled up while throwing a smug smile towards Serena.
So what if Alexander likes you? Hmph! I have his mother on my side and he always listens to his mother. Rhea thought to herself, while throwing subtle glances at Alexander who didn’t bother to pay her any attention.
Serena took a deep breath. The smug smile on Rhea’s face irritated her, and it took everything in her to not give her a slap just to wipe off the smile.
"And who told you I’m interested in getting back together with her?" Alexander’s calm voice snapped the two younger women out of their thoughts.
They both turned to look at him with varying expressions. One had a soft smile dancing in her eyes, the other had her mouth wide while open while shock filled her eyes.
"Alex..." Rhea trailed off when Alexander directed a cold look.
"Haven’t I made myself clear that I don’t like you? Why do you keep forcing things?" Alexander rubbed his forehead, his voice dropping lower.
"You know what? I shouldn’t even be exchanging words with you. It’s pointless." Alexander scoffed, scooped Serena into his arms, earning a gasp from her and walked to the stairs amidst the surprised gazes of Grace and Rhea.
"Aunty, I told you it was a mistake to come here. He likes her..." She paused, wiping a lone tear. "I can give him up, if that’s what would make him happy." At the end of her words, she let out a tired sigh.
Grace panicked. Rhea was key in helping her control Alexander. What would she do if the latter chose to give up? No! That won’t do.
Grace patted Rhea’s hands. "Why do you want to give up? You are the one I chose for my son, and it can only be you. Alexander is just having a phase which he would grow out of. I’m his mother, and he always listens to me.
It wasn’t clear if Grace was consoling Rhea or herself. It didn’t matter.
"Alexander!" Grace screamed loudly. When she wasn’t paying attention, Rhea gave her a disgusted look, but she feigned sadness while she held her hands.
"Aunty, you have to worry about your health. It won’t be good if your blood pressure spikes." Like a good daughter, she advised her quietly.
Her actions only fueled Grace’s courage as she screamed once again. "Alexander! Get down here! I’m your mother, how dare you work out on me?"
Her screaming was futile. They waited for a few minutes but they didn’t even see his shadow..
Rhea suddenly became uncomfortable. She had always thought that Alexander was only throwing a tantrum by using Serena. Even though he protected her constantly, that didn’t mean he liked her.
This thought gave her the boldness to continue her actions. But looking at things, she suddenly realized that Alexander had truly moved on from her. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
’A man’s love is truly fickle.’ She thought to herself internally. She momentarily forgot that she was the one who chose to end things with him a few years ago.
"Aunty, he won’t listen to you. Let’s leave before we embarrass ourselves more." She suggested, hooked her arms into Grace’s, and was about to pull her away when Grace stopped.
"I’m his mother, aren’t I?" She asked, breathing heavily.
Rhea suddenly felt a bit impatient, but she still nodded with a calm smile. "Yes, you are his mother and you would always be his mother."
"Then, why isn’t he listening to me?" Grace asked again. "I know it’s because of that b*tch, Serena. She must have brainwashed him. He is meant to listen to me only."
"I know, Aunty. He is your son." Rhea paused as they both walked out of the house. Her voice dropped lower, instigating Grace, "your son has always listened to you. But the appearance of that girl called Serena changed everything. You need to take care of her so she won’t ruin the mother-son relationship you have with Xander."
Grace’s eyes brightened as she looked at Rhea who had an innocent smile on her face. "Are you saying I should..." She didn’t complete her words, but they both know what she was referring to.
"You are doing this for your son." Rhea smiled softly. Her voice, her smile, and everything about her were like a siren, instigating those who listened to her.
"You are right. I’m doing this for my son." Grace kept chanting these words till they reached their vehicle much to Rhea’s chagrin, but the latter forced a smile on her face.
Meanwhile, Serena who was unaware that she had just become a target had her eyes opened in shock as she stared at Alexander who was on his knees.
"What are you doing?" She asked breathlessly. She had to admit, seeing Alexander on his knees was a sight to behold. She wondered how her colleagues would feel if they found out he was kneeling in front of her.
"I want to apologize." He started, hands behind his back while his sincere gaze met her flustered eyes.
"Why are you apologising? You didn’t do anything wrong, did you?" Serena asked with folded arms as she tried to help him up but Alexander remained on his knees, refusing to budge.
"Aren’t you angry because of my mother’s presence?" He asked, his curious gaze searching hers.
"There was another person present." Serena pointed out, seeing that he refused to acknowledge Rhea.
"Who’s that?" Alexander played dumb.
Serena chuckled, then gestured for him to move closer. He placed his forehead on hers as their breathing turned heavy.
"Kiss me," she whispered, staring straight into his eyes.
