One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 65 — Sixty-five
Throughout the night, Serena didn’t have a good sleep. She kept being plagued by several nightmares.
Fortunately, Alexander stayed by her side, coaxing her to sleep each time she woke up screaming. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
When the sun was finally risen, Serena woke up. This time, without any nightmares or screaming.
Her eyes were dark, resembling that of a panda. It was evident that she didn’t have a good rest.
She felt a weight around her waist, and she looked down. Her brows creased slightly before her gaze travelled upwards.
Her eyes softened seeing it was Alexander. His breath rose and fell, proof that he was peacefully sleeping. She studied his face and her lips instinctively curved upwards. She momentarily forgot about the terrible incident from the previous day.
Instead, she was filled with admiration as her eyes were fixated on him. He had long eyelashes, and Serena noticed that his expression was calmer when he was asleep. He looked even more approachable.
"Do you like what you see?" Suddenly, she heard a deep voice. She froze as she looked at Alexander who slowly opened his eyes. "Don’t be shy, I belong to you alone."
Serena coughed awkwardly, her eyes darting around. She didn’t dare meet his eyes.
"What?" His teasing voice sounded. "Can’t bear to look after being caught?" He probed jokingly.
"Your eyes are red. Didn’t you sleep properly?" Serena asked, changing the topic. This was after she noticed the uncharacteristically red look in his eyes. Worry filled her instantly.
Alexander’s expression softened. "A certain kitten kept me up all night. I was barely able to get a 2-hour sleep." He answered, his gaze fixated on her.
"What kitten? I don’t have..." She trailed off when she realized that he was the kitten he was referring to.
"I’m sorry." She apologized immediately. "I must have caused you a lot of inconvenience." She muttered under her breath.
Alexander was quick to refute her words. "I don’t mind any inconvenience as long as it’s from you." He paused, flashing her a knowing look. "If I don’t take care of you, who would? You are my girlfriend now."
Serena kept silent. In a way, he was sort of right. Silence reigned between them as no one spoke.
After a while, Alexander broke the silence. "Serena, are you... okay?" His voice was filled with hesitation as he stared at her.
Serena sniffed. Her mind was riddled with thoughts of Mama whilst she shook her head. "I wanted to let her know about the bakery. She also loved baking. She would have been ecstatic if she learned that I owned full ownership over the bakery."
Serena paused, tears gathering in her eyes. "But I didn’t even get to tell her about it before she was brutally murdered." Her hands clenched into fists, anger flashing across her features.
Alexander sighed then pulled her into his embrace. "There’s progress. The Officers found that Mama grabbed a fistful of the killer’s hair. This was probably when they were both struggling."
He stopped. Seeing that her eyes were fully on him, he continued. "Thanks to mine and my family’s heavy donation to the Police department, they dared not take this case lightly. Personally, I’d be overseeing it." He explained to her, leaving behind the part that there was a mastermind who tried to cover up the case by bribing an officer.
Relief flooded through Serena when she heard his explanation. "Thank you so much." She tightened her arms around him. She had no idea what she’d have done if she didn’t have him by her side.
Alexander, on the other hand, only patted her. He understood that the death of the last mother figure in her life would shatter her. She needed the support she could get.
"Serena, what do you think about moving into my apartment?" Alexander suddenly asked.
Serena’s brows knitted together as she seriously considered his words.
Alexander, on the other hand, mistook her silence for rejection. He immediately sought to explain. "I only want to keep an eye on you. I will feel restless if you’re not by my side. Can you accept this little request of mine?"
Serena chuckled quietly. It was rare to catch Alexander flustered. It was even rare to catch him pleading.
"I was never going to reject you. I was only weighing the pros and cons." Her eyes met his as she continued. "The pros definitely outweigh the cons."
Alexander’s tense shoulders finally dropped. "You really know how to scare someone." He pinched her cheeks softly and she gave him a pointed stare.
"Can I see her one last time? Just before the funeral?" Serena pleaded. Alexander nodded. It was clear that the only thing she needed was closure.

Alexander and Serena were fully dressed. Alexander had no other option than to wear the suit from the previous day.
Serena rubbed her nose guiltily as she watched him knot his tie. "I know you’re a neat freak. You are definitely not comfortable in this."
Alexander smiled. She was worried about his thoughts. "Don’t worry. I’ll ask my assistant to get me a change of clothes."
Serena blinked as she gave him a blank stare. "I thought I was your Executive Assistant?" She questioned with her hands folded.
Alexander paused in his actions. His eyes drifted to her probing expression, and he chuckled. "That’s my personal assistant. And besides, didn’t you say you wanted to quit. You can only quit if you recommend someone else to fill in for you."
Serena’s eyes sparkled, listening to his words. She was about to speak when she heard a knock on the door.
They exchanged glances.
"That should be Maya. I texted her while you were in the bathroom." Serena said and was about to walk to the door when she was stopped by Alexander.
"Let me open the door." He offered. Although he didn’t say much, Serena understood that he was scared. He had a tooth exterior, but he cared about her.
’See Mama, there’s someone else who cares about me. Your death was unexpected, but you can rest easy. You don’t have to worry as well. I’d avenge you. That’s a promise.’ Serena thought to herself while playing with the necklace which Mama gifted her a few days ago.
Meanwhile Alexander vigilantly opened the door. He only let out a sigh of relief when he saw that it was Maya... just as Serena said.
Maya directly walked past him, not acknowledging him. She hastened in her steps till she reached Serena.
Without hesitation, she held her hands, whispering with a trembling voice. "Tell me that text message isn’t real. Tell me it’s nothing but a prank."
Serena bit her lips. The tears which she finally managed to suppress gathered in her eyes. She blinked, trying to force them back but it was not successful.
Seeing Serena like this, Maya was sure that she wasn’t lying. Serena would never joke with something like this.
"How... how could this happen?" She whispered with trembling shoulders.
