One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 48 — Forty-eight

Alexander’s eyes bulged in disbelief. There was only one thought running through his mind. Serena kissed him out of her free will.

The hair on his body rose as a result of immense excitement.

Just as he was about to deepen the kiss, she pulled away, and bashfully turned to the side.

"Princess, you..."

Alexander was unable to finish his statement before Serena rushed out of the car. It was as though she was running away from him. The only thing he heard was the sound of the door opening and shutting.

Regardless, his fingers found their way to his lips, and his eyes brightened. Today was definitely one of the best days he had ever had.

He waited in the car, and only drove away when he saw that Serena was fully in her apartment.

Meanwhile, Serena had her heart in her mouth as she walked into her apartment..

"You are home late. Did you have any other engagement?"

She gasped when she saw someone sitting on the sofa. She only let out a sigh of relief when she saw that it was Mama who had questioned her.

"Nothing." She shook her head and collapsed to the single chair. Her mind replayed her bold actions, and without her realising, her face heated.

Mama studied her, and her eyes twinkled. "Were you asked out?" She asked without any hesitation.

Serena’s gaze snapped to her, and she was unable to give a reply. Technically, she had been asked out by her boss tonight.

Seeing her silence, Mama took that as a yes. "So you were asked out. Was it Alexander? Did you give him a positive reply? Are you both in a relationship now?"

She asked a series of questions as she gazed at Serena with burning eyes.

"That didn’t happen." Serena thought about it, and she figured it was best to not let the older woman know about it for now. "I was promoted today." She decided to give this news instead.

Mama’s eyes shone with pride. "That’s good news. What position?"

"I am Alexander’s executive assistant." Serena declared while rubbing her forehead.

"Yay!" Mama cheered.

Seeing the genuine happiness on her face, Serena didn’t bother to tell her that she was ’threatened’ into the post. It would ruin Mama’s mood and also her impression of Alexander.

"So..." Mama started, breaking Serena out of her thoughts. She eyed the evening gown she was putting on curiously then her gaze travelled to Serena’s face, studying her carefully. "This wasn’t the outfit you wore to work. Did you go out to celebrate or something?"

Serena shook her head. "I attended dinner with Alexander." She answered with full honesty..

"Mama, enough questions." Serena rubbed her hands on her belly. "I’m starving." She blinked her eyes cutely.

Mama widened her eyes. "Didn’t you have dinner at Mr. Blackwood’s place? How come you’re hungry now?"

"No food beats yours. And besides, I was uncomfortable so I didn’t have enough to eat." Serena replied, pouting her lips.

Mama shook her head, pleased with Serena’s answer.

While both of them discuss the day’s events, Alexander had just arrived at his place. His previous assistant was there waiting for him.

When he stepped down from the car, his assistant, Sterling walked towards him.

"Boss." He greeted with a slight bow..

"How long have you been waiting?" Alexander asked as they walked into the house.. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"I just arrived not too long ago." Sterling replied, following behind him.

Alexander suddenly stopped in his tracks and without turning to him, he commented. "You are such a bad liar." He then resumed in his tracks..

Sterling touched his nose. He knew his boss would see right through him. "As expected of you boss. You are still discerning."

Alexander chuckled mirthlessly. Gone was the teasing man who only appeared while Serena was present.

"Let’s talk in my study."

A few minutes later, they were both in the study. Alexander gestured for Sterling to take a seat..

"Boss, I have an update on the task you gave me." Sterling started, and slid a brown folder towards Alexander.

Alexander’s brows raised. "That quick?"

"I have my ways, boss," Sterling answered bashfully.

"Which is why I trust you with tasks like this." Alexander complimented him and picked up the folder.

Sterling’s face, on the other hand, turned red. Alexander rarely complimented people. Once he did, be self aware that you did a great job.

Alexander went through the folder and his eyes darkened as he skimmed the content.

"It’s just as I thought." He scoffed and closed the folder. "My father has a bastard child somewhere."

Sterling bit his lips as he observed Alexander. His eyes were dark, and there was something dangerous dancing in his eyes.

"What are you going to do, boss?" He asked tentatively..

Alexander suddenly smiled. Not out of amusement, but out of mockery. "The fish took the bait today."

Sterling tilted his head unable to understand a word from his boss.

"I got 5% from my dad’s shares." Seeing that he didn’t understand, Alexander explained..

Sterling’s eyes flew open in shock and disbelief. "Y-you got Master Blackwood to agree to sign the shares over to you?"

Alexander shook his head. "I tricked him. An old game of chess usually does it." There was an unusual look of pride in his eyes as he replied.

Sterling’s lips formed an ’O’ shape. Once again, he was amazed by Alexander’s tactics.

"So, what do you need me to do?" He asked, motivated to do more for his boss.

"I need you to keep an eye on my dad. Surely, he would visit his illegitimate son. I need to know who that person is."

Sterling nodded.

Alexander fell into deep thoughts as his hands rubbed his chin..

"Anything else, boss?" Sterling asked..

"How does someone propose to a lady?" Alexander suddenly asked.

"Propose?" Sterling repeated, caught off guard by Alexander’s sudden words.

"Yes. Propose." Alexander nodded. "I want to propose to a girl." He declared..

"Boss, are you in a relationship with someone?" Sterling probed quietly.

Alexander was silent for a while before he shook his head. He couldn’t be considered to be in a relationship with Serena... at least for now.

"Then how can you propose when you’ve never been in a relationship?" Sterling practically shouted. "You want the lady to run away from you."

"Have you ever been in love with someone? Or been in a relationship?" Alexander inquired with his hands folded.

Sterling lowered his head bashfully while shaking his head.

Alexander scoffed. "I shouldn’t have asked you for advice. You’re a lost cause."

Sterling wanted to retort but remembering that Alexander is his boss, he had to swallow his grievances.

But one question ran through his mind; who is the girl that melted the heart of the iceberg.
