One-Eyed Monster-Chapter 805 - 802: The Book’s Sentiments
As a Spirit Entity, the Spirit Book can still sense Igor's emotions. It's quite familiar with Igor and certainly doesn't want to be tormented by Igor again. Ordinary methods don't affect it much, but Igor's mental torment is particularly effective.
"Don't worry, master, I'll definitely behave well this time and won't embarrass you in the slightest!" The Spirit Book can only desperately try to please Igor, although it's unaware that such efforts only make Igor more annoyed.
This behavior is not natural at all; Igor immediately recognizes it's just being perfunctory. However, Igor doesn't want to waste time on chatter with the book, knowing that time flies when he engages with it.
"Alright, alright, stop dawdling and get down to business. The Respected Wizard is waiting for you!"
"Respected Wizard? What a joke, just a Gray Robe, how could they be called 'Respected'!" The Spirit Book shouted loudly, drawing glances from the monsters on Guru Mountain. However, they just looked without much curiosity—everyone is well aware of the Spirit Book's arrogant demeanor and is not surprised by its audacious remarks.
Being the kind of entity it is, Spirit Books are no longer rare these days. Anything that can be traded with gold coins isn't unique, so most have seen one or two before and are not too startled. Yet, the book's loud declaration made it seem like it encountered something extraordinarily unusual.
This made Witch Biggs feel humiliated enough to want to cover her face with her cloak, thankful that it was nightfall, as most people wouldn't notice the embarrassing details on her face...
"Enough of the nonsense, how can you have so many frivolous reasons?" Igor noticed the embarrassment and hurriedly stopped the Spirit Book.
"It's not frivolous reasoning, master. You must understand that Gray Robe Wizards just advanced from Black Robes; they're hardly deserving of the title 'Respected...'" The Spirit Book insisted, feeling the need to correct its master's mistaken perspective.
"Alright, alright, I know, but anyone who helps me along my journey as an Adventurer is considered a 'Respected Wizard' or 'Senior' to me, so stop nitpicking my words!"
"Uh, okay, I'm nitpicking because I'm a book, master, you have to forgive me." Facing Igor's insistence, the Spirit Book had no choice but to give up its persuasion.
"Just behave properly." Igor was at a loss for words.
This Spirit Book constantly refreshes his understanding. To him, a Spirit Book was always a partner, an important ally on adventures. Whenever there's hardship, summoning this Spirit Book is supposed to help, providing some useful information at least.
However, this particular Spirit Book, aside from popping out at inopportune times to disgust people, mostly sleeps and ignores Igor entirely. Even if Igor pours Spirit Power into it, it doesn't react at all. It's utterly disappointing, a burdensome excess. If it weren't capable of communication, Igor would have long considered getting rid of it.
"Wh-why are you treating him like that?" Witch Biggs stammered, not only feeling embarrassed but also puzzled.
"What?" The Spirit Book didn't quite understand Witch Biggs's words.
"I mean, you, to him, what exactly is your relationship?" Witch Biggs made a gesture toward Igor, then asked.
The Spirit Book doesn't have vision, but it can sense Spirit Power, understanding the meaning behind Witch Biggs's gesture.
It then began to speak non-stop.
"He is my master, and to him, I'm just a reliable follower." The Spirit Book started to explain as if narrating something very normal.
Igor listened on the side, rubbing his forehead helplessly. He never considered the Spirit Book in such a way. He always treated it as a partner... As for why it feared him, constantly calling him 'master,' he really wasn't sure.
"I'm a Spirit Book, likely older than you and possibly surviving much longer than you, because I'm a book!"
Unintentionally, the Spirit Book began to muse, but Witch Biggs had no time for its musings, already overwhelmed with her own troubles. Listening to a naturally verbose Spirit Book's ramblings would only add to her irritation.
So before the Spirit Book could delve into its full musings, Witch Biggs decisively interrupted, "You don't need to go into the details. I just want to know what exactly your relationship with him is. I don't think you are just a follower."
"Uh, Witch, your eyes are quite sharp to notice something deeper."
"Hmm?" Witch Biggs was even more perplexed. She'd had this Spirit Book for a considerable time, yet during that period, she hadn't found anything particularly special about it.
Could it be she was using an incorrect approach? Or is the Spirit Book responding differently to different people?
Witch Biggs preferred the latter explanation. She believed she had mastered how to open any book, certain there shouldn't be a wrong way, confident in her methods.
If the Spirit Book indeed responds differently to different people, then its following response would provide an answer.
"Haven't you noticed? I'm actually very important to him—I'm his cheat code." The Spirit Book deliberately lowered its voice as if sharing secrets with Witch Biggs.
Hearing this conclusion, Witch Biggs felt like she'd tumbled from a mountain top.
Because the Spirit Book's explanation was just ridiculously melodramatic.
Not only Witch Biggs, but Igor also felt distraught...
A cheat code? If this Spirit Book were truly a cheat code, haha, then Igor really needn't pursue being an Adventurer. Such an unreliable being claiming to be a cheat code, what a joke! It utterly fails when crucial, yet considers itself a cheat code?
"Why do you have such expressions, refusing to believe?" The Spirit Book sensed the changes in Spirit Power from Igor and Biggs, a transformation embodying sheer disappointment—emotions that conveyed complete distrust, as if deeming everything it said nonsense. This distrust deeply hurt...
"Gosh, how can you guys be like this? I'm not wrong. One day, what I said will be proven. Just wait and see."
Thus, the Spirit Book once again began its musings. Of course, its musings often consisted of meaningless words, as musings generally held little meaning.
Witch Biggs started reflecting as well, fully blaming herself. She had placed expectations on the Spirit Book, and the result? The book was indeed, as Igor described, unreliable.
