On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 29: Eating Obediently
"I don’t know. I haven’t told him yet," Chloe Sterling said.
"So what’s Old Master Lockwood’s condition? Is it life-threatening?" Jean Kensington asked.
"It’s a custom-made neurotoxin. The situation is a bit complicated. I’ve been studying the toxin’s components all day."
"A neurotoxin! Isn’t that the Nocturne Group’s calling card? It couldn’t be... Silas Coldwell, could it?"
Chloe Sterling’s eyes darkened slightly. "It’s probably not him. If he wanted to get revenge on Jasper Lockwood, he would target him directly."
With Silas Coldwell’s arrogant and prideful personality, he wouldn’t stoop to secretly attacking an old man.
"Hm, I guess you’re right." After a pause, Jean Kensington asked, "So how is your research going? Are you confident?"
Chloe Sterling’s tone was certain. "I am."
Although she had only analyzed sixty percent of the toxin’s components, she was already confident she could create an antidote.
Jean Kensington chuckled. "My dear, you truly are a genius Pharmacist."
Chloe Sterling said, "Okay, I have to go. I need to head back to the Lockwood Residence."
"All right, you go ahead."
After hanging up, Chloe Sterling sent a message to Jasper Lockwood.
I just got out of the lab. I’ve analyzed most of the toxin’s components. Once the analysis is complete, I can start developing the antidote immediately. I’m heading back to the manor now and will come find you at the old residence later.
After sending the message, Chloe Sterling changed her clothes, went to a pharmacy to pick up some medicine, then returned to the Lockwood Residence and headed straight for the garden.
The rare flowers and herbs Jasper Lockwood had acquired were proving useful—something he himself had never expected.
Chloe Sterling picked some medicinal herbs and brought them into the villa. She placed them with the medicine she had bought that day, but she still couldn’t start developing the antidote yet. She had to understand all the components of the toxin first.
She packed up all the medicine and was about to head to the old residence when Jasper Lockwood suddenly appeared, walking toward her.
"What are you doing back here?"
Jasper Lockwood glanced at the medicine in her hands, then looked up at her and asked, "You’ve been in the lab all day?"
"Yeah, why?" Chloe Sterling hadn’t yet realized why he was asking.
"So you’ve been busy since this morning and haven’t eaten anything."
Chloe Sterling: "......I ate."
"There’s food in the lab? What did you eat?"
"There was bread and milk."
Chloe Sterling was lying. In reality, she hadn’t eaten anything all day, not even a glass of water.
Jasper Lockwood naturally didn’t believe her. How could there be food in a laboratory? She hadn’t replied to his message until evening, which meant she had spent the entire day in the lab without eating or drinking.
He suddenly took her hand and headed for the dining room. "Eat first. Then we’ll go to the old residence."
As soon as they entered the dining room, the food was immediately served. Jasper Lockwood had ordered the kitchen to prepare it after receiving Chloe Sterling’s message.
Chloe Sterling looked at the food on the table, then back at him, and understood.
She didn’t say anything more and obediently ate her meal.
After dinner, the two of them went to the old residence together.
「Two days later.」
Chloe Sterling had finally analyzed all the components of the toxin and developed a formula for the antidote. However, she was still missing one rather rare medicinal ingredient that was currently unavailable and couldn’t be found on the market.
She was sitting in the garden gazebo, contemplating whether other herbs could be used as a substitute, when Butler Dawson hurried in. "Young Master, Young Madam, Miss Serena is here. She says she has something important to discuss with you both regarding Lynn Chester. Should I let her in?"
"Did she bring Lynn Chester with her?" Jasper Lockwood asked.
"No, she did not. She came with Miss Sinclair."
Chloe Sterling snapped out of her thoughts and spoke abruptly, "They have news about Lynn Chester?"
Butler Dawson replied, "That’s what Miss Serena said."
A cold sneer flashed in Chloe Sterling’s eyes. She turned to Jasper Lockwood and said, "Then let them in. I’d also like to know where this Lynn Chester is."
Jasper Lockwood looked at her for a moment, then said, "Let them in."
「A few minutes later.」
Serena Lockwood and Phoebe Sinclair entered.
"President Lockwood, Mrs. Lockwood."
Serena Lockwood knew her place and nodded politely to the pair.
Although Phoebe Sinclair had already told her that Chloe Sterling was the woman Jasper Lockwood had married, she was still slightly surprised to see it with her own eyes.
Looking at the two of them, Jasper Lockwood asked directly, "You have news about Lynn Chester?"
Serena Lockwood glanced sideways at Phoebe Sinclair and answered, "Miss Sinclair does."
Phoebe Sinclair said, "After I heard about what happened to Old Master Lockwood, I also started looking for Lynn Chester. By chance, I learned today that a friend of mine in Country E knows her. However, Lynn Chester is rather eccentric and refuses to come to Imperial to make a house call. But my friend said Lynn Chester is willing to gift her newly developed medicine. It’s said to be a panacea that can cure a hundred poisons. I’ve already dispatched my private jet to get it. It should arrive in Crestfall with the medicine in three hours."
Hearing this, Chloe Sterling let out a laugh.
Phoebe Sinclair glanced at her and suppressed the anger in her heart. ’After I save Old Master Lockwood and win his favor, I’ll deal with her!’
"You’re saying Lynn Chester is in Country E?" Jasper Lockwood’s voice was cold and heavy.
Phoebe Sinclair didn’t understand why he was reacting this way, but she nodded nonetheless. "That’s right."
Jasper Lockwood said, "But my reliable intelligence says she’s right here in Crestfall. Phoebe Sinclair, you dare to lie about something like this."
Although they hadn’t found Lynn Chester, his men had confirmed that she was currently in Crestfall. There was no way Phoebe Sinclair’s information could be more accurate than his, so she had to be lying.
At his words, the color drained from both Phoebe Sinclair’s and Serena Lockwood’s faces.
"Phoebe, what’s going on?" Serena Lockwood asked hastily.
Phoebe Sinclair’s fingers tightened secretly. The truth was, she had no information on Lynn Chester. She had simply asked a friend to find a way to obtain the medicine Lynn Chester had developed. The medicine could indeed cure a hundred poisons, but she couldn’t be certain if it would counteract the poison affecting Old Master Lockwood. Still, she had to give it a try. If, by some chance, she succeeded, the entire Lockwood Family would be indebted to her.
"I’m not lying." Phoebe Sinclair composed herself and said calmly, "My friend said she’s in Country E, busy with new research, which is why she won’t make a house call. If President Lockwood’s investigation found her in Crestfall, perhaps she just arrived recently."
Chloe Sterling exposed her lie once again. "She didn’t just arrive in Crestfall. She’s been here for at least six months."
Phoebe Sinclair looked at her. "How do you know that?"
Chloe Sterling replied, "I don’t, but the detectives do."
After a moment of silence, Phoebe Sinclair said, "But my friend did get the antidote from her. President Lockwood, even if the information about Lynn Chester’s location is wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the medicine. I think the most important thing right now is to save Old Master Lockwood."
Serena Lockwood chimed in, "That’s right. It doesn’t matter where Lynn Chester is, as long as the medicine can save the Old Master. His life is what’s most important."
Phoebe Sinclair sneered inwardly. ’Chloe Sterling keeps trying to show off her medical skills, but I’ll make sure she never gets the chance. It was true for Old Master Rivers, and it’ll be true for Old Master Lockwood.’
’Whether she’s actually capable or not, she won’t get the chance to prove it.’
Chloe Sterling had indeed developed a medicine that could cure a hundred poisons, but it was completely ineffective against Old Master Lockwood’s symptoms.
If it had been useful, she would have used it already.
Chloe Sterling spoke up, "The medicine you’re talking about will have absolutely no effect on Grandfather’s symptoms."
Phoebe Sinclair’s lips curved into a smile. "We’ll see if it works or not after he takes it."
