Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Long Premeditated

Tristan Sinclair looked at Jasper Lockwood, thought for a moment, and asked, "Are you talking about Silas Coldwell and Charles Sterling? Charles Sterling doesn’t know her identity, does he? As for Silas Coldwell... I don’t think he can do anything to Chloe. If he could really take her away, he would have done it long ago. He wouldn’t have let her stay with you all this time."

Jasper Lockwood simply drank, offering no response.

’Right now, it wasn’t just Silas Coldwell and Charles Sterling. The Sinclair and Rivers families probably also wanted to use Chloe Sterling to keep him in check. Of course, he wouldn’t give them the chance.’

’It was just that he couldn’t tell Tristan Sinclair about these things for the time being. It wasn’t a matter of trust, but rather that even if Tristan knew, there was nothing he could do besides feel troubled.’

A short while later, Chloe Sterling arrived at the Nocturne Group’s Crestfall Division.

Zane Stratton was already waiting for her downstairs. When he saw her car pull up, he immediately ran over to open the door for her. "Miss Chester, you’re here. Thank you for coming."

Chloe Sterling looked up at the building, still a bit skeptical. "He was poisoned... in his own company?"

Zane Stratton said, "Someone infiltrated the company and took the opportunity to poison the boss. You’ll understand when you go inside and see."

Chloe Sterling followed him into the president’s private elevator and rode it all the way up to Silas Coldwell’s office on the top floor.

"Boss, Miss Chester is here."

The leather chair spun 180 degrees. Silas Coldwell faced Chloe Sterling and said with a smile, "Baby, you really came. I knew you couldn’t bear to let me die."

’It really was a lie!’

Chloe Sterling’s expression darkened. She glanced sideways at Zane Stratton and said coldly, "With acting skills this good, why aren’t you in the movies?"

Zane Stratton looked embarrassed. "My apologies, Miss Chester. I had no choice. If I couldn’t trick you into coming, the boss would’ve had my hide."

"You can leave now," Silas Coldwell ordered.

"Yes, sir." Zane Stratton immediately slipped out.

Chloe Sterling turned to leave as well. Seeing this, Zane Stratton quickly blocked her path. "Miss Chester, please don’t go yet. The boss has something important to tell you."

Silas Coldwell stood up and walked over to Chloe Sterling. "I didn’t mean to trick you. I really do have something important to tell you. My people recently received two contracts, both to hire professional assassins to go after you. Don’t you want to know who’s behind them?"

Chloe Sterling replied, "I don’t! Silas Coldwell, you tricked me into coming here like this. In the future, if you’re ever really about to die, I might not believe it."

Silas Coldwell gave a roguish smile. "You didn’t completely believe it this time either, did you? But you still came. Baby, I know you better than you think."

Chloe Sterling’s expression was cold and grim. "That might not be the case in the future."

"Phoebe Sinclair, Ruby Lynch." Silas Coldwell suddenly said their names. Then he added, "Do you need me to teach them a lesson for you?"

After a moment of silence, Chloe Sterling said, "I handle my own problems."

"Fine by me. In that case, I’ll just provide you with some information. What you do with it is up to you." After speaking, Silas Coldwell glanced at Zane Stratton and ordered, "Send her the files."

Zane Stratton immediately took out his phone. After a moment, Chloe Sterling’s phone chimed with several consecutive messages.

She took her phone out of her pocket and glanced at it. There were several pictures: Ruby Lynch walking into a villa with her own bodyguard, kissing him inside the villa, and being pinned down on the sofa by the bodyguard.

The last item was a video. Phoebe Sinclair’s hands and feet were bound, and she was locked in a dim room.

Chloe Sterling’s eyes shot up to look at Silas Coldwell. "You kidnapped Phoebe Sinclair?"

Silas Coldwell said, "It wasn’t me."

Chloe Sterling was clearly unconvinced. "If not you, then who could it be?"

"What? You want to save her?"

Chloe Sterling’s tone was indifferent. "I’m not that much of a saint."

She wasn’t about to save someone who wanted to kill her, but she didn’t want Silas Coldwell doing these things for her, either.

"Silas Coldwell, this is my business. You don’t need to interfere."

"I told you, it wasn’t me." The corner of Silas Coldwell’s lip curled up as he watched her. "Baby, I did want to do it, but someone beat me to the punch."

Chloe Sterling watched him suspiciously, still not quite believing him.

"It was that hypocrite Jasper Lockwood of yours. I told you before, he pretends to be a perfect gentleman, but in reality, his heart is much blacker than mine."

’Jasper Lockwood captured Phoebe Sinclair!?’

A strange look flickered in Chloe Sterling’s eyes. She seemed half-convinced. After a pause, she said to Silas Coldwell, "So you do know your own heart is black."

Silas Coldwell laughed. "Of course I know. I’ve never denied it. But towards you, I don’t have a single black-hearted thought—only a heart full of devotion. Unlike Jasper Lockwood, who acts one way to your face and another behind your back. He says he doesn’t like the Sinclair woman, but secretly he’s got her stashed away for some bondage play."

Chloe Sterling’s expression changed slightly. "Stop spouting nonsense!"

"Who’s spouting nonsense! Didn’t you see? There’s a bed right there."

"..."

"One more thing," Silas Coldwell added. "Jasper Lockwood has known your identity for a long time. He even sent people to Country E to look for you last year, but I intercepted the intel at the time. Otherwise, he would have found you. I told you, he approached you with a motive, but you didn’t believe me."

Chloe Sterling really didn’t believe this. She was certain Jasper Lockwood hadn’t known her identity at the beginning.

"I know you still don’t believe me." Silas Coldwell turned, picked up a file from his desk, and handed it to her. "I finally found it. See for yourself. See if he was looking for you long ago, and whether your meeting was an accident, or if someone who knew your identity planned it all along."

Chloe Sterling glanced at the file in his hand but didn’t take it. Instead, she turned to leave.

Seeing this, Silas Coldwell’s face darkened. He immediately grabbed her arm. "Why won’t you look? Are you afraid what I said is true?"

"Let go!" Chloe Sterling snapped.

Silas Coldwell didn’t let go. "You’ve been deceived by Jasper Lockwood," he said again. "Don’t go back to him. Come with me."

"Why should I go with you!"

"He lied to you, and you’re still going back to him!"

Chloe Sterling said sternly, "I don’t believe what you’re saying. I only trust my own intuition."

"Your intuition?" Silas Coldwell scoffed. "And what’s your intuition telling you? That what I’m saying is true, so you don’t dare to look at what’s in this file? You want to run, to escape."

"You’re wrong. My intuition is..." Chloe Sterling’s tone was resolute as she stated, enunciating each word, "He would not lie to me." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Silas Coldwell froze for a second. The look in his eyes grew complicated. His hand tightened on her wrist, refusing to let go. He then ground out through clenched teeth, "He wouldn’t lie to you! I think you’ve been completely fooled by him! The one who has never lied to you is me!"

Chloe Sterling looked at him, then at Zane Stratton next to him. "You have the gall to say that?"

Silas Coldwell: "..."

Zane Stratton: "..."

The two of them had just conspired to lure her here.

But Silas Coldwell didn’t consider it a deception. He argued, "That was just a joke! How can it be the same as what that Lockwood guy did!"

Chloe Sterling had lost her patience. "If you don’t let go now," she said, "don’t blame me for using Enchanting Fragrance."

Silas Coldwell was angry yet helpless. After a moment’s stalemate, he finally let go. He gritted his teeth and said, "Fine. I’ll let go. Go find him."

Chloe Sterling strode towards the exit.

From behind her, Silas Coldwell suddenly added, "Baby, you’ll definitely regret this. Deep down, you know I’m not lying to you about this."
