On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 171: Wait and See
"Mommy, are we going home now?" the baby asked.
"Yes, we’re going home."
"Can we go back a little later?"
"Hmm?" Jean Kensington looked at her son, puzzled. "Where do you want to go then?"
The baby said, "Let’s go to the martial arts hall, to see Master Chase Langdon."
After a moment’s thought, Jean Kensington nodded. "Alright, to the martial arts hall it is."
A short while later, the two arrived at the hall. As soon as they entered, they saw Chase Langdon and Chloe Sterling sitting on the sofa, talking.
"Chloe, so you came to the hall. I thought you had something really important to do."
Chase Langdon said, "What? Were you two just together?"
"Mhm," Chloe Sterling replied calmly.
"Master, Godmother."
The baby spoke up as he walked over to them.
Chase Langdon immediately scooped the little guy into his arms and asked, "Why have you been running off to your granduncle’s place so much lately? You never come to see your master anymore. Have you been practicing the lessons I taught you?"
The baby nodded. "Yes, I practice every day. Uncle Sinclair even praised me today and said I was really good."
"Uncle Sinclair? Which Uncle Sinclair?"
"Tristan Sinclair, President Sinclair."
"President Sinclair? How did you end up with him?"
"My granduncle took me."
Jean Kensington sat down beside them, took a sip of hot tea, and said, "I just picked him up from the Sinclair Residence. My uncle got called over to the Sinclair Residence by President Sinclair to handle some work again."
Chase Langdon raised an eyebrow. "He even brings a kid with him to work?"
Jean Kensington shrugged. "Maybe it was urgent. That’s why he had me go pick him up."
The baby lifted his little face and said, "Master, do you want to see the results of my recent practice?"
"Of course. If you’ve been practicing well, Master will teach you a few new moves."
Hearing the words "new moves," the baby’s eyes lit up even more. "Okay!"
"Let’s go. To the training room."
Chase Langdon stood up, still holding the little guy.
The baby squirmed in his arms. "Master, you can put me down. I can walk by myself. I’m almost four, I’m a big boy now."
"A big boy!" Chase Langdon chuckled. "Alright, the big boy can walk on his own." With that, he set him down.
Chloe Sterling watched them and said casually, "My senior brother is surprisingly good with kids."
Jean Kensington nodded. "Yeah, I can see that. If Chase ever becomes a dad, he’ll definitely be a great father."
Chloe Sterling gave her a meaningful look.
Jean Kensington didn’t understand the look and blinked. "What’s with that look?"
Chloe Sterling said, "Aren’t you looking for a good father for the baby?"
"..." Jean Kensington nearly spat out her tea!
"What’s with that expression now?"
Jean Kensington: "Dude, Chase and I are just like you and me—we’re buddies, okay?"
Chloe Sterling glanced at her senior brother, feeling another wave of sympathy for him. Her eyes darted around for a moment, then she suddenly asked, "You don’t have a secret crush on someone, do you?"
A strange glint flashed in Jean Kensington’s eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. She flicked her hair back. "How could that be possible? With my looks, why would I have a crush on someone else? It’s always others who have a crush on me."
「Silas Coldwell had been busy at the branch office recently.」
Zane Stratton walked into the office. "Boss, that woman from the Sinclair Family is here to see you."
"Which woman from the Sinclair Family?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"The one who’s in love with President Lockwood, Phoebe Sinclair."
Silas Coldwell frowned. "What is she doing here?"
"She said she has something important to discuss with you. I’m guessing it’s related to Miss Lynn Chester."
After a moment of thought, a sharp glint flashed in Silas Coldwell’s eyes. Then he said, "Let her in."
"Yes, sir."
A few moments later, Phoebe Sinclair walked into the office. She looked at Silas Coldwell with a hint of nervousness, feigning composure. "President Coldwell, hello."
Silas Coldwell leaned back lazily in his leather chair. "You wanted to see me about something?"
Phoebe Sinclair took a deep breath and mustered her courage. "I remember you told me something before. You said the Nocturne Group provides assassination services, and that you also want to kill that woman by Jasper Lockwood’s side. Is that right?
I feel the same way. But I don’t understand—you clearly have the ability, so why haven’t you made a move? What are you so concerned about?"
"What? Are you here for me to clear up your confusion?" Silas Coldwell’s voice grew colder.
Phoebe Sinclair’s heart tightened, and she immediately said, "Of course not. I came to propose a collaboration, President Coldwell. Our goals are the same."
Silas Coldwell: "Our goals are the same?"
"Don’t you want to strike a blow against Jasper Lockwood? Making Chloe Sterling disappear would be the biggest blow of all."
"’Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,’ indeed." Silas Coldwell sneered. "I do want to strike a blow against Jasper Lockwood, but our goals aren’t the same. I want to kill Jasper Lockwood and make *him* disappear. Then, Chloe Sterling will be mine."
Hearing this, Phoebe Sinclair was stunned. "You... You’re interested in Chloe Sterling, too?"
Silas Coldwell’s long, deep-set eyes narrowed, and his thin lips parted. "That’s right. You dare touch the woman I’ve set my sights on? Do you have a death wish?"
As his words fell, Phoebe Sinclair felt the temperature in the room plummet. A chill shot up from the soles of her feet to the top of her head. She couldn’t help but tremble, muttering, "But she... she’s a woman Jasper Lockwood has slept with. You don’t mind?"
"Slept with?" Silas Coldwell said menacingly. "You don’t seem to understand what that word really means. If I call a few of my men in here right now to lock you up and have their way with you, *that’s* playing."
Phoebe Sinclair couldn’t stop shaking. All her impulsive urges seemed to vanish in an instant, replaced by cold reason. ’I must have been insane to approach this moody, monstrous tyrant.’ She deeply regretted her impulsiveness. She never should have approached this man.
"I... I didn’t mean it like that. Since President Coldwell likes her, I naturally wouldn’t dare to touch her. I... I wanted to help you, President Coldwell."
Silas Coldwell scoffed. "Help me? Who the hell do you think you are? Do you even have what it takes?"
Phoebe Sinclair clutched her handbag and said again, "I overestimated myself. I apologize... I’ll be on my way, then."
Silas Coldwell said icily, "Get out! And remember, stay far away from Chloe Sterling."
Phoebe Sinclair: "I understand."
She stumbled out of the Nocturne Group’s branch office. Even after she got back to her car, her hands and feet were still cold.
’Even Silas Coldwell is interested in Chloe Sterling!’
’No wonder he hasn’t made a move. That bitch really has a way of seducing men!’
’But this might be a good thing. It would be best if Silas Coldwell could take Chloe Sterling away from Jasper Lockwood’s side soon, and she never appears in Crestfall again.’
Silas Coldwell spun the pen in his hand, his gaze fixed on a point in the empty air, his expression inscrutable.
Zane Stratton said, "The winds are changing in Crestfall. Things are probably going to get rough for Jasper Lockwood. Boss, should we take this opportunity to...?"
After a long moment of silence, Silas Coldwell finally spoke slowly, "Let’s wait and see how things play out for now."
「That evening, Chloe Sterling returned to the Lockwood Residence.」
Tristan Sinclair was also there, talking with Jasper Lockwood. When he saw her walk in, the corner of his mouth curved up. "Chloe, you’re finally back."
Chloe Sterling looked at the two men and walked over slowly before speaking. "President Sinclair, you were looking for me?"
