Chapter 169: Chapter 169: A Proper Demonstration

Chloe Sterling cleared her throat and added, "In that case, try to show a little more restraint from now on."

Jasper Lockwood chuckled, suddenly rolling over and pinning her down.

"What are you doing?" Chloe Sterling asked, a look of astonishment on her face.

Jasper Lockwood pressed her hands down on either side of the pillow, his lips parting slightly. "I’m going to prove to you whether I’m tired or not."

"...You don’t have to..."

"It’s best to prove it."

After that, Jasper Lockwood proceeded to prove his point thoroughly, ensuring Chloe Sterling would never dare say anything similar for the rest of her life.

「That afternoon.」

Chloe Sterling met Jean Kensington at the apartment.

"Didn’t you say you were coming this morning? Where have you been?"

Chloe Sterling’s fingers tightened around her coffee cup. A strange look flashed in her eyes, but her face remained calm as she said, "I had some other things to take care of, so I was delayed."

"What could take a whole morning? You didn’t even answer your phone."

"I went to see Charles Sterling yesterday and learned about the problems Apex Group is facing."

"Are you planning to help them?"

"Yeah. I’ve been thinking about a solution ever since I got back. I should be able to solve it."

"Just be careful, then. Whatever you do, don’t expose your identity."

"I know." Chloe Sterling took a sip of her coffee, glanced around the room, and asked, "Where’s the baby?"

Jean Kensington leaned back lazily and said leisurely, "He’s with my uncle."

"He seems to really like kids."

"Yeah, he does. He likes them so much, yet he won’t have his own. He’s always stealing other people’s."

"You seem to be enjoying the peace and quiet."

"What are you talking about? That’s my son."

As they were talking, a phone suddenly rang.

Jean Kensington glanced at the screen. It was her uncle, Dean Lynch. She answered immediately. "Hello, Uncle."

"Jean, come over to the Sinclair Family’s place," Dean Lynch said over the phone.

"Huh? Why would I go to the Sinclair Family’s house?"

"The baby is here. You should come pick him up. Something came up unexpectedly today, and I can’t leave."

Jean Kensington frowned. "Okay, I get it. I’ll head over now."

After hanging up, Jean Kensington suddenly grabbed Chloe Sterling’s arm. "Darling, I have to go to the Sinclair’s to pick up my son. Come with me."

Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Are you scared of Tristan Sinclair?"

Jean Kensington abruptly let go of her arm. "Scared of him? I’m a member of The Boundless Legion. Why would I be scared of him?"

"Then why are you always avoiding him?"

"When have I ever avoided him?"

A half-smile played on Chloe Sterling’s lips. "You know why."

Jean Kensington’s face flushed with slight embarrassment. After a pause, she said in a self-righteous tone, "I just don’t want to see him. He’s not much older than me, but he always tries to act like an elder and take advantage."

Chloe Sterling checked the time and stood up. "You should just go by yourself. I have other things to do."

"What other things? Can’t you go later?"

"I can’t." Chloe Sterling patted her on the shoulder. "Go get the baby. Maybe Tristan Sinclair isn’t even home."

Jean Kensington huffed. "Impossible. He’s definitely home on the weekend."

"I’m heading out, then." Chloe Sterling said, turning to walk out.

"Wait for me! I have to go over there right now."

Jean Kensington put on her coat and left with Chloe Sterling.

"Are you sure you won’t come with me?"

Chloe Sterling glanced at her. "I’m not going."

’It’s not like it’s a lion’s den. There’s nothing to worry about. I’m not going to get involved in the drama.’

Downstairs, the two went their separate ways.

Chloe Sterling was driving down the road when a black sedan suddenly hit the rear of her car. The impact wasn’t severe; it seemed the other driver was trying to give her a warning.

She glanced in the rearview mirror. The driver looked familiar. After a moment of thought, she remembered: it was Ruby Lynch’s bodyguard.

Then, the car passed her. The rear window rolled down, revealing Ruby Lynch’s pretty but harsh face. She shot Chloe Sterling a cold glare, her eyes filled with warning.

A moment later, the window closed, and Ruby Lynch’s face disappeared. Her meaning was clear: she was warning Chloe Sterling that the same car accident stunt could be used on her.

Chloe Sterling’s beautiful eyes narrowed. She slammed on the accelerator and rammed straight into the other car.

She hit them much harder than Ruby Lynch had hit her. Without even looking, she knew what a sorry state Ruby Lynch must be in inside the car.

Indeed, the sudden impact sent Ruby Lynch flying from her seat into the back of the one in front. Even though the seats were genuine leather, the sudden collision was still painful.

"Ma’am, are you all right?" the bodyguard asked with concern, immediately pulling the car over to the side of the road.

Ruby Lynch gripped the seat, righted herself, and looked back toward Chloe Sterling. "That little bitch. If I don’t teach her a lesson, she’ll really think she can do whatever she wants in Crestfall."

The bodyguard said, "But she is the Crown Prince’s woman, after all. If you make a move on her, I’m afraid the Crown Prince will hold you responsible."

A vicious glint appeared in Ruby Lynch’s eyes. "Of course I won’t let him find out!" After a moment of thought, she added, "Go contact two professional assassins."

"You want to kill her?" the bodyguard asked, stunned.

"Have the professional assassins capture her."

Ruby Lynch knew that ordinary thugs or bodyguards wouldn’t be able to catch Chloe Sterling. She had seen her skills firsthand before.

After some thought, the bodyguard said, "When it comes to professional assassins, the Nocturne Group’s are definitely the best, but they’re also expensive."

"The price doesn’t matter. I just want to teach her a lesson."

"All right. I’ll find a way to contact the Nocturne Group."

"Mm." Ruby Lynch leaned back, but she was still fuming.

Seeing her foul expression, the bodyguard didn’t drive off immediately. He asked again, "Are you sure you’re okay, Ma’am? Did you hit yourself anywhere? Does it hurt?"

Looking at the young, sturdy bodyguard, Ruby Lynch suddenly smiled. "So concerned about me? In that case, you can give me a personal examination later."

The bodyguard smiled too. "So... we’re not going back to the Rivers Family’s house just yet?"

Ruby Lynch’s lips curved into a seductive smile. "Go to the villa in Westcroft."

Chloe Sterling walked into the martial arts gym and saw Damian Rivers frantically attacking a training dummy. He seemed to have been at it for a long time, and beads of sweat were clearly visible on his forehead.

Chase Langdon, who was watching from the side, suddenly asked, "Do you want to take a break?"

Damian Rivers’s eyes were dark. After landing a heavy punch, he replied, "No need."

Chase Langdon furrowed his brow. "Who on earth pissed you off?"

Damian Rivers didn’t say a word, just continued his frantic assault.

Chloe Sterling walked over and said casually, "Your student is quite dedicated."

Chase Langdon shrugged, looking helpless. He had no idea why Damian Rivers was suddenly in a bad mood.

Usually, when he saw Chloe Sterling arrive, Damian Rivers would immediately greet her with a cheerful smile. This time, however, he didn’t. He gave her an unreadable look and then continued throwing punches.

Chloe Sterling didn’t seem to mind. She turned to Chase Langdon and said, "Senior, I need to talk to you about something. Come here for a second."

"Alright."

The two of them went to the office.

Watching their retreating figures, Damian Rivers suddenly stopped, tossed his gloves aside, and picked up a nearby towel to wipe the sweat from his face.

’He had originally resolved to just be friends with Chloe Sterling, but now...’

’He once again wanted to take Chloe Sterling away from Jasper Lockwood. In the days to come, she would be in great danger by Jasper Lockwood’s side.’

’But he didn’t know how to tell her. He couldn’t reveal his parents’ plan, nor could he just stand by and watch Chloe Sterling get caught up in this struggle.’
