Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Heartless Rejection

After she sent the message, Chloe Sterling still hadn’t replied.

Jean Kensington smiled and sent another message, this time to Dean Lynch.

[Uncle, I’m downstairs.]

Dean Lynch: [Okay, I’m coming down now.]

As Jean Kensington walked to the entrance of the building, she noticed Esther Sterling standing off to the side.

Esther Sterling shot her a disdainful glance before turning back to peer into the building, praying she could catch Tristan Sinclair.

It seemed the heavens had heard her prayer. Before long, the handsome, towering figure of Tristan Sinclair appeared, followed by several executives. He radiated a powerful aura.

Esther Sterling’s eyes lit up, and she immediately tried to rush forward, only to be blocked by the security guard again. Suppressing her anger, she told the guard, "President Sinclair is coming out. He knows me. He’ll see me."

The guard glanced at Tristan Sinclair, who was walking out, then back at Esther Sterling. "In that case, please wait a moment for President Sinclair to come out."

"You..." Esther Sterling was about to explode with anger. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

’Once I get together with Tristan Sinclair, I’m definitely getting this blind fool fired.’

Standing a short distance away, Jean Kensington let out a gloating chuckle.

’Looks like Tristan Sinclair doesn’t care much about Esther Sterling either. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be stuck outside the main entrance.’

As if hearing her laugh, Esther Sterling whipped her head around to face her. "What are you laughing at?" she demanded coldly.

Jean Kensington scoffed. "I’ll laugh if I want to. It’s none of your damn business!"

Seeing Tristan Sinclair approaching, Esther Sterling didn’t bother arguing. She waited with eager eyes, and as he drew near, she spoke in a soft voice, "President Sinclair, you’re finally out. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time."

Tristan Sinclair looked at her with an indifferent expression. "Waiting for me?"

"Yes." Esther Sterling glanced at the two security guards and continued, "They wouldn’t let me in, so I had to wait for you out here. There’s something I want to talk to you about. Is now a good time?"

She gazed at the man, her eyes full of expectation, but Tristan Sinclair replied coolly, "It’s not."

Hearing this, Esther Sterling froze, seemingly in disbelief that he would reject her so heartlessly.

Tristan Sinclair continued walking out with his long strides, and the people behind him hurried to keep up.

Seeing that he was about to leave, Esther Sterling chased after him, unwilling to give up. "I’m sorry, President Sinclair, I know I shouldn’t be bothering you, but I have something really important to discuss. You said the first-place winner of the piano competition would be signed to The Sinclair Group’s music company, but the response I got was that they’re not signing me. I think there might be a..."

"That is the company’s new decision!" Tristan Sinclair cut her off, his tone cold. "The Sinclair Group will not be signing you."

Esther Sterling stared at him blankly, her voice nearly a sob. "Why?"

Tristan Sinclair: "I told you, it’s the company’s new decision."

"Is it something I did wrong?" Esther Sterling murmured.

"You’re not a good fit."

With that, Tristan Sinclair strode forward. Esther Sterling tried to chase him again but was blocked by an assistant. "Miss, please conduct yourself with dignity."

After taking a few steps, Tristan Sinclair suddenly turned his head to the side and saw Jean Kensington snickering nearby.

When she saw him suddenly look over, Jean Kensington’s smile froze. Her gaze darted elsewhere—to the sky, to the ground—anywhere but at him.

After a few seconds, Tristan Sinclair averted his gaze and continued walking, then got into a business van parked at the roadside.

Esther Sterling stood there in a daze, unable to understand why Tristan Sinclair’s attitude was like this. ’He’s clearly in love with me.’

’Could it... could it be because we’re in public?’

’Tristan Sinclair probably doesn’t want to expose his romantic relationships in front of his subordinates. He probably wouldn’t be like this in private.’ Esther Sterling comforted herself with this thought.

Then, she began to wonder how she could meet Tristan Sinclair alone.

Seeing that Dean Lynch was still not down, Jean Kensington sent him another message.

[Uncle, are you down yet?]

[I’m down. Getting out of the elevator now.]

After reading the message, Jean Kensington looked up, and Esther Sterling’s face suddenly appeared in front of her, making her jump. "Are you insane?!"

Esther Sterling glared at her and said coldly, "Don’t you dare tell anyone what you just saw! Or else I won’t let you off the hook!"

Jean Kensington gave a cold laugh. "You think you’re in any position to threaten me?"

"It’s just a small misunderstanding between me and President Sinclair. Everything will be fine once it’s cleared up. I’d advise you not to do this the hard way!"

"Hah... Wake up and stop your daydreaming."

Just as Esther Sterling was about to say more, a man’s voice suddenly called out from the side, "Jean."

"Move!" Jean Kensington shoved Esther Sterling aside and walked up to Dean Lynch with a displeased look. "What took you so long to come down?"

"Something held me up, sorry." Dean Lynch smiled. "Let’s go. I’ll treat you to a big meal."

Jean Kensington: "Only the most expensive will do!"

Dean Lynch: "Whatever you want!"

The two left, talking and laughing.

Thinking the two were a couple, Esther Sterling stared coldly at their retreating backs. ’Once I get into The Sinclair Group, I’ll make sure that man gets fired!’

’Anyone associated with Chloe Sterling or her friends has to disappear from my sight!’

Just as Esther Sterling was about to leave, a car suddenly stopped by the curb, and Mason Rivers’s face appeared.

"Esther."

"Mr. Mason," Esther Sterling said. "What are you doing here?"

"I came over to run an errand and didn’t expect to run into you."

Esther Sterling smiled. "What a coincidence."

Mason Rivers glanced at Sinclair Plaza in front of them and asked, "Are you here to sign with The Sinclair Group?"

"No. I was just here to meet a friend. I’m about to head back to school now."

"Have you had lunch?" Mason Rivers asked.

"Not yet."

Mason Rivers pushed his door open, got out, and then opened the front passenger door. "Get in. I’ll take you to lunch."

After a moment of thought, Esther Sterling gave a slight smile. "Well, thank you then, Mr. Mason."

Although she didn’t like Mason Rivers, she figured it wasn’t bad to have some company when she was in a bad mood, so she got into the car.

’Besides, Mason Rivers could still be useful to her.’

Mason Rivers was delighted. He got back into the driver’s seat and asked with a smile, "What would you like to eat?"

Esther Sterling said, "I’ll have whatever you’re having, Mr. Mason."

Hearing this, Mason Rivers was slightly taken aback, then smiled again. "Then I’ll just pick a place."

Esther Sterling: "Okay, I’ll leave it all up to you, Mr. Mason."

「The Medical College.」

Chloe Sterling was in the break room, looking at the messages Jean Kensington had sent her.

After a long time, she finally replied with two words: [Not really.]

’How could she possibly be jealous? They were just baseless rumors.’

A moment later, Jean Kensington sent another message: [You say "not really," but you took so long to think about it! Chloe, you’re not being honest.]

Chloe Sterling replied in a deadpan tone: [I was busy just now.]

Jean Kensington: [I’ll pretend to believe you.]

Chloe Sterling: "..."

Jean Kensington: [Oh right, there’s something else I have to tell you. Someone’s offering a high price to lure you out of retirement again. It happens to be a job in Maridia. Want to take it? It’s a perfect chance to go see your husband.]

Chloe Sterling: [Okay.]

Jean Kensington: [Wow! You agreed so quickly!]

Chloe Sterling: [Cut the crap.]

Jean Kensington: [Okay, okay, okay, I’ll accept it then. You should head over as soon as you can.]
