On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 154: Stop Daydreaming
「The next day, at noon.」
Chloe Sterling, Maya Jacobs, and a few others came out of the science building.
"Why don’t we skip the cafeteria and go for hot pot? What do you guys think?" Maya Jacobs suddenly suggested.
Wyatt Hank said, "I’m good with whatever. It’s up to you all."
Number Three: "I’m good with it too."
Maya Jacobs: "Chloe, what about you? You in the mood for hot pot?"
Chloe Sterling didn’t answer. Her gaze was fixed somberly on something not far ahead.
Maya Jacobs followed her gaze and her eyes widened in surprise, her brows knitting together a moment later.
Rose Lynch walked over and stood before Chloe Sterling. "Chloe, let’s talk."
Chloe Sterling said coldly, "There’s nothing for us to talk about."
"I have something important to tell you. It’s for your own good!"
"Oh?" Chloe Sterling scoffed. "You, looking out for me? That’s new."
Rose Lynch’s expression wavered, but she quickly regained her composure. "I really am doing this for you. No matter what, you’re my biological daughter. I wouldn’t harm you."
After a brief pause, Chloe Sterling glanced at Maya Jacobs and the other two. "You guys go on ahead. I’ll catch up."
Maya Jacobs looked at her, then at Rose Lynch. ’She is her biological mother, after all. It should be fine.’ "Alright, we’ll go ahead and wait for you." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The three of them left first.
Chloe Sterling said, "Speak."
Rose Lynch had wanted to ask Chloe to lunch, but seeing her cold demeanor, she swallowed her words. Taking a deep breath, she said, "Chloe, stop pulling those petty tricks on Esther behind her back. She’s not the same person she used to be."
Hearing this, a chill filled Chloe Sterling’s eyes. "This is the ’important thing’ you had to tell me?"
"Esther just won first place in the national piano competition. The Sinclair Group holds her in high regard, and their president appreciates her talent. Pulling these tricks behind her back will only hurt you! I don’t know who you found as a backer, but can they really be more powerful than the Sinclair Group?
You’ve been in Crestfall for almost a year, so you should understand the power dynamics here. Esther is now someone the Sinclairs value. If you keep provoking her, you’re provoking The Sinclair Group. You should know what the consequences of that are."
"What tricks have I been pulling behind her back?" Chloe Sterling asked abruptly.
Rose Lynch certainly wasn’t going to mention that Ruby Lynch had hired someone to run into Claire White. Instead, she said, "Chloe, I’m just reminding you to know your limits. There are some people you can’t afford to cross. The price is not something you can pay."
"Whether I can afford it or not is my business. You don’t need to worry about it!"
"You!" Rose Lynch was speechless with anger. "Do you have to target Esther? Our bad relationship has nothing to do with her. Why must you keep going after her?"
Chloe Sterling’s tone was cold. "In my eyes, you’re no different from strangers. Stop being so presumptuous." After a pause, she added, "I know why you came to see me. It’s because Ruby Lynch doesn’t want to pay Claire White the six million in compensation, right?"
"What six million? I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then why did you come looking for me? Would you have come to ’kindly’ remind me if your daughter’s and your sister’s interests weren’t at stake? Or... were you involved too? Willing to harm or even ruin another girl just so your own daughter could win?"
"Don’t talk nonsense! I didn’t do anything."
"Then was it Ruby Lynch and Esther Sterling’s idea?"
"That’s all just your wild speculation. Ruby and Esther would never do something like that."
"If they didn’t do anything, then what does me helping another girl get justice have to do with them? And what does it have to do with The Sinclair Group?"
Rose Lynch’s face stiffened. She paused before saying, "That’s not what I’m talking about. I just want to remind you that Esther is different now. She has The Sinclair Group backing her. Stop pulling those petty tricks behind her back. It will only bring you harm."
"Heh..." A cold chuckle suddenly came from the side.
The two of them looked to the side at the same time.
Damian Rivers walked over, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Since when did The Sinclair Group become the Sterling Family’s backer? How come I haven’t heard about it?"
Rose Lynch’s face was filled with shock. "Young... Young Master Rivers!"
The heir of the main branch of the Rivers Family!
’Why is he here?’
Damian Rivers shifted his gaze to Chloe Sterling’s face. "Sorry, something came up and I’m late."
Chloe Sterling’s tone was indifferent. "I didn’t ask you to come."
Damian Rivers smiled. "I wanted to give you a surprise."
’Listening to their conversation, Rose Lynch grew even more shocked. Chloe Sterling actually knows Damian Rivers! So the person backing her all this time was the Heir of the Rivers. No wonder she’s so brazen.’
Damian Rivers looked at her again, his voice turning cold. "Ms. Lynch, daydreaming is nice, but it’s not reality. And let me give you a reminder: the one thing Tristan Sinclair hates most is people borrowing his name to throw their weight around. If he finds out, you’ll have to face the consequences yourself."
"Young Master Rivers, what do you mean by that?"
"Hmph. I mean that Tristan Sinclair isn’t blind or stupid. He wouldn’t back a two-faced schemer."
At his words, Rose Lynch’s expression shifted again and again. Although she was intimidated by Damian Rivers’s status, she wouldn’t allow him to insult her daughter like this.
"Young Master Rivers, please watch your words. Believe it or not, what I said is the truth. My daughter is beautiful and talented; it’s perfectly normal for President Sinclair to value her." As she spoke, Rose Lynch glanced at Chloe Sterling and added, "I didn’t expect Chloe to be with you. No wonder she’s so... But you don’t need to slander others like this."
It was clear that Damian Rivers was very protective of Chloe Sterling, so she didn’t dare to say anything too harsh.
"Then I’ll let you see for yourself whether or not you’re daydreaming." With that, Damian Rivers took out his phone, called Tristan Sinclair directly, and put him on speaker.
The call connected quickly, and Tristan Sinclair’s languid voice came through. "What’s up?"
Damian Rivers said with a smile, "I heard some gossip about you and got curious, so I thought I’d ask."
Tristan Sinclair: "Gossip about me? That’s news to me."
"Then you must be out of the loop. I’ve heard from more than one person that you’ve taken a liking to the woman who won first place in the piano competition. What’s her name again? Oh... Esther Sterling. They say you’re not only protecting her at every turn but also hold her in high regard. Soon enough, she might just become the wife of the Sinclair Group’s president."
Rose Lynch never expected Damian Rivers to actually call Tristan Sinclair. Although she had some confidence, she now felt apprehensive as she waited for Tristan Sinclair’s reply.
After a brief silence, Tristan Sinclair’s voice came through, slightly cold. "Who’s spouting that nonsense? Who did you hear it from?"
"I told you, it was more than one person, or I wouldn’t be asking. So, is it true or not?" Damian Rivers wasn’t making it up; this really wasn’t the first time he had heard such a rumor.
Once, when he was at a club with friends, someone brought along another girl who had participated in the piano competition. He had personally heard that girl say Tristan Sinclair was protecting Esther Sterling. He didn’t believe it at the time, so he paid it no mind.
