Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Seeing in a New Light

Seth Sutton tried to make excuses, but Serena Lockwood cut him off. "Laura doesn’t want to see you right now, so get out! And you’d better deal with that little bitch and give Laura the explanation she deserves."

After a moment of silence, Seth Sutton finally spoke. "I’ll handle it. Laura, just get some rest. I will give you an explanation."

With that, he got up and left.

Laura Rivers closed her eyes as tears streamed down her cheeks. Her voice was hoarse. "It was my fault all along. He spent over twenty years pretending to be someone he wasn’t, right by my side. It must have been so hard for him."

Even Serena Lockwood never would have thought Seth Sutton was capable of this. His act had been so convincing that he had fooled nearly all of them.

Looking at Laura, she said comfortingly, "But you shouldn’t torture yourself like this. He isn’t worth it. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get justice."

’As the matriarch of the Rivers family, I have to get involved. Anyone who dares to bully our family will pay the price!’

Chloe Sterling handed the prescription she had written to Damian Rivers. "Have someone fill this. Make sure there are no mistakes this time."

Damian Rivers took the prescription. "Thank you."

"Her physical health is closely linked to her state of mind. While she’s taking the medicine, you also need to pay close attention to her mood."

"I understand."

"Well, I’ll be on my way." After something like this, it was inappropriate for an outsider like Chloe Sterling to linger, and she had no desire to stay anyway.

Damian Rivers immediately replied, "I’ll see you out."

"There’s no need. My car is right outside. I can go by myself."

"I’m going to the pharmacy to fill the prescription anyway. I don’t trust anyone else with it."

Chloe Sterling said no more and turned to leave, but the old doctor suddenly stepped forward. "Wait! Young Master Rivers, could I please see that prescription?"

Damian Rivers’s eyes sharpened. "What do you mean by that?"

The old doctor quickly explained, "Young Master Rivers, please don’t misunderstand. I’m not questioning the young lady. For her to have woken Mrs. Sutton up so quickly is truly extraordinary. I’m simply curious and wish to study the prescription."

Before Damian Rivers could speak, Chloe Sterling suddenly said, "Let him see it."

"Are you sure?" Damian asked.

Chloe Sterling: "I’m sure."

Damian Rivers handed the prescription to the old doctor. As he read it, his expression grew increasingly astonished. "This... this prescription is brilliant. Truly brilliant! How did I never think of this?"

Damian Rivers snatched the prescription back. "It’s a matter of skill."

The old doctor looked at Chloe Sterling again, his expression now filled with admiration. "Young lady, I truly apologize for my earlier behavior. I was too narrow-minded. I never imagined someone your age could possess such remarkable medical skills. By the way, what did you give Mrs. Sutton just now? She woke up so quickly."

Chloe Sterling replied, "A secret formula."

The old doctor: ".......Oh."

Chloe Sterling and Damian Rivers left.

Watching them go, the old doctor murmured, "Impressive. The younger generation is truly something to behold."

Phoebe Sinclair scoffed. "I’d say your skills are the ones that are lacking."

The old doctor looked at her, his tone anything but polite. "That’s not what you were saying earlier, Miss Sinclair. You said I was quite renowned in Crestfall."

Phoebe Sinclair’s expression faltered. "Well, it seems that was just an empty reputation," she said coldly. "You can’t even compare to some girl from the countryside."

"Hmm? That Miss Sterling is from the countryside? I thought she must be the prized disciple of some great master."

Phoebe Sinclair’s lip twitched. Ignoring him, she pulled out her phone, looked at the picture she had surreptitiously taken of Chloe Sterling and Damian Rivers, and sent it.

「Meanwhile.」

「Lockwood Group, Conference Room.」

Jasper Lockwood’s phone suddenly buzzed with two anonymous messages. He glanced at the notification, paused for a moment, and then tapped it open.

It was a picture of Chloe Sterling and Damian Rivers standing together in a room. A bed was next to them, but because of the angle, only a single leg of the bed was visible, hiding the rest of it from view.

The second message was a text.

"Chloe Sterling knows perfectly well that Damian Rivers has feelings for her, but she doesn’t bother to keep her distance. She’s always with him, and she runs over to the Rivers estate at the slightest pretext. Surely President Lockwood can see what she’s really after."

Jasper Lockwood’s expression darkened, and he abruptly slammed his phone back down on the table.

The man giving the presentation jumped, turning to look at him. He stammered, "President Lockwood, is... is there a problem with something?"

Jasper Lockwood said coldly, "Continue."

The man swallowed hard and proceeded with his presentation, now far more cautious.

Damian Rivers’s car pulled up in front of the apothecary. Chloe Sterling’s car drove straight past him without so much as a stop to say goodbye.

Watching her taillights disappear, Damian Rivers sighed softly and muttered to himself, "Why is she so cold? I’d think we’re at least friends by now."

He unbuckled his seatbelt and was about to get out when he noticed a car deliberately pull in front of Chloe Sterling’s, forcing her to stop.

The rear window then slid down, revealing an arrogant, sinister face staring intently at Chloe Sterling.

It was the head of the Nocturne Group, Silas Coldwell!

Damian Rivers’s expression hardened. Without his seatbelt on, he sped forward.

’I know Silas Coldwell has a grudge against Jasper Lockwood. If he’s planning to use that as an excuse to harm Chloe, I can’t just stand by and do nothing.’

Just as he pulled up, Silas Coldwell’s window slid shut, and the car drove off.

Damian Rivers honked his horn. When Chloe Sterling turned to look, he immediately got out and walked over to her window.

Chloe Sterling lowered her window. "What’s wrong?"

"What did that man from the Nocturne Group say to you?" Damian Rivers asked, his expression grave.

Chloe Sterling, however, was perfectly calm. "Nothing."

Seeing how nonchalant she was, Damian Rivers frowned. "You can’t treat this so lightly! The Nocturne Group is an international power, more terrifying than you can possibly imagine. That man, Silas Coldwell, has a feud with Jasper Lockwood. If he decides to target you, you’ll be in grave danger!"

Chloe Sterling looked at him, paused for a beat, and then said, "I know."

"Then why won’t you tell me what he said? What does he want?"

Chloe Sterling: "And what good would telling you do?"

Damian Rivers: "...I could help you figure out what he’s planning. Even if you don’t need my protection, you should at least tell Jasper Lockwood. Silas Coldwell is a genuinely dangerous man. You can’t let your guard down." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Chloe Sterling: "He was just saying hello. That’s it. Go fill your prescription. I’m leaving."

"No! I have to make sure you get back to the training hall safely. I’m the one who asked you to come out here, so I can’t let anything happen to you. I’ll follow you."

With that, Damian Rivers returned to his car.

Chloe Sterling: "........"

’Even though I haven’t known him for long, I have a decent sense of Damian Rivers’s personality. When he gets like this, nothing I say will work.’

So, she ignored him and drove off.

Damian Rivers followed behind her, feeling more and more uneasy the more he thought about it. ’Silas Coldwell is too dangerous. But if I assign my own men to protect Chloe, it’s guaranteed to cause a misunderstanding with Jasper Lockwood.’

’Since those two are in love, I don’t want to get in the middle of their relationship. But I have to tell Jasper Lockwood that Silas Coldwell might have his sights set on Chloe now.’
