Chapter 141: Chapter 141: He Can Do Whatever He Wants

Chloe Sterling’s mouth twitched. Before she could say a word, Jasper Lockwood suddenly moved, reaching out and pulling her back into his arms, holding her tight.

Chloe Sterling stared in astonishment. "You... How can you move?"

Jasper Lockwood’s lips curled into a roguish smile, his tone bewitching. "You tell me."

After a moment of stunned silence, Chloe Sterling suddenly remembered. After the gala that night, she had given Jasper Lockwood a Spiritual Medicine that could counteract all poisons—including her Enchanting Fragrance.

’So she had lifted a rock only to drop it on her own foot!’

Seeing the look of utter regret on her face, Jasper Lockwood chuckled. "Remember now?"

Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

Jasper Lockwood added, "You still have a choice."

Swallowing her pride, Chloe Sterling said through gritted teeth, "I’ll go eat something!"

The two of them left the study and went downstairs.

Jasper Lockwood immediately instructed the butler to have the kitchen prepare a late-night snack. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Chloe Sterling said, "Just make a bowl of noodles. I’m in the mood for noodles."

The butler asked, "What kind of noodles would you like, Madam?"

Chloe Sterling replied, "Beef noodles will be fine."

"Very well," the butler said.

At the dining table, Chloe Sterling sat in sullen silence. She couldn’t believe she had forgotten about giving Jasper Lockwood the Spiritual Medicine.

The medicine was effective for at least a year. So, for the next year at a minimum, not only would she be unable to overpower Jasper Lockwood, but she also couldn’t use the Enchanting Fragrance against him.

Meanwhile, Jasper Lockwood could do whatever he wanted with her.

Jasper Lockwood sat with her. As if remembering something, he suddenly asked, "Why didn’t you use it on the night of the gala? I shouldn’t have been immune to it back then."

He had originally thought he had forced himself on her that night, that she had been powerless to resist. But now it seemed that wasn’t the case. She could have used the Enchanting Fragrance to stop him, but she hadn’t.

At his words, Chloe Sterling’s expression faltered. The tips of her ears flushed crimson, and she pressed her lips together, remaining silent.

’How could I have used it in that situation? It would have been incredibly harmful to his body.’

"Chloe, were you..."

"Because I couldn’t," Chloe Sterling cut in. "If you had been paralyzed under those circumstances, it would have caused you great physical harm. We’re husband and wife. It was my duty to help you."

"If you thought it was your duty, why were you so angry the next day?"

"I... I wasn’t angry."

"Yes, you were."

"No, I wasn’t."

Just then, a maid brought over a bowl of noodles. "Enjoy your meal, Madam. Be careful, it’s hot."

Chloe Sterling stopped arguing with Jasper Lockwood and picked up her chopsticks to eat.

Jasper Lockwood watched her quietly from the side, deciding to let her eat first and not press the issue any further.

After a few bites of her noodles, Chloe Sterling glanced at him. "You don’t have to stay here with me. Go on back and get some rest. I’ll go to sleep as soon as I’m done."

Jasper Lockwood leaned back in his chair. His long fingers deliberately undid the top two buttons of his collar as he said leisurely, "I’m not tired. I’ll wait for you to finish, and we’ll go up together."

Chloe Sterling’s gaze lingered on his open collar for a moment before she looked away and continued eating.

Jasper Lockwood rested an arm on the table, propping his chin on his hand and watching her eat with an unwavering gaze.

Seeing that he clearly had no intention of leaving, Chloe Sterling said nothing more and finished her noodles at a steady pace.

"Are you full?" Jasper Lockwood asked.

Chloe Sterling nodded. "Yes, I’m full."

Only then did the two return upstairs to rest.

Lying in bed, Chloe Sterling couldn’t fall asleep. She raised her hand, staring at the ring on her index finger. The Enchanting Fragrance was hidden inside—her most important tool for self-protection, and a secret many people were desperate to unravel.

She knew Silas Coldwell had been searching for other Pharmacists to counteract her Enchanting Fragrance, but he had never succeeded.

No one but her knew that she had created an antidote to the Enchanting Fragrance. And now, Jasper Lockwood knew too.

She was only just realizing that in the span of a few short months, her trust in Jasper Lockwood had reached a level that astonished even herself.

「Two days later.」

The Sinclair Group, President’s Office.

"President Sinclair, the piano competition is over. Esther Sterling took first place. Should we sign her to the company?"

Tristan Sinclair remembered who Esther Sterling was from when she was injured backstage. The moment he heard her name, his brows knitted together. "Don’t sign her," he said, his tone cold.

"Huh?" the subordinate said. "But didn’t we originally..."

"There is no ’originally’!" Tristan Sinclair cut him off before he could finish. "Rules can be changed at any time. Esther Sterling isn’t a good fit for our company. Find an excuse and get rid of her."

The man nodded. "Yes, sir."

After a moment’s thought, Tristan Sinclair added, "And what about contestant number seven, Claire White, getting into a car accident right before the finals? Have we found anything out?"

"The driver who caused the accident was driving drunk. It was definitely an accident. Claire White’s party has already filed a lawsuit."

Tristan Sinclair flipped through the documents in his hand and said nothing more. ’The timing of the accident feels far too convenient,’ he thought, ’but it’s over and done with. I’m not going to go out of my way for a stranger.’

"You may go. Send Dean Lynch in."

The man looked hesitant. "Er... Dean Lynch isn’t in the office at the moment."

Hearing this, Tristan Sinclair looked up. "Not in the office? Where did he go?"

"He said he had to step out for a bit and would be back soon. I don’t know the specifics of where he went."

"Who gave him permission to leave during work hours?"

The man immediately took out his phone. "I’ll call him right now and tell him to come back."

After a moment’s pause, Tristan Sinclair said, "Never mind. Don’t call him. Just have him come see me when he gets back."

"Yes, sir."

「Downstairs at Sinclair Tower.」

Jean Kensington handed the baby she was holding to Dean Lynch, grinning. "Thanks, Uncle Dean. I’ll treat you to a big lunch to make it up to you."

Dean Lynch took the baby and asked, "Ms. Carter took the day off again?"

Ms. Carter was the nanny Jean Kensington had hired to look after the baby; she had a family matter to attend to today and took the day off.

"I should just find a couple of people to go over and help you two," Dean Lynch added.

Jean Kensington quickly replied, "No, it’s fine. Ms. Carter is great, she’s just been busy with some personal things lately. It’ll be fine once she’s sorted them out." She paused, glancing up at the tower. "But are you sure it’s okay to take the baby into the office? Your big boss won’t have a problem with it, will he?"

"He won’t," Dean Lynch said. "President Sinclair isn’t the type to get worked up over a child. Besides, the baby will be in my office, so he won’t even see him."

Jean Kensington nodded. "Okay, good. I’ll come find you both at lunchtime."

Dean Lynch nodded. "Alright, you should get going."

Not far away, Esther Sterling sat in her car, her eyes shining as she gazed at Sinclair Tower. She imagined a future where she would be the mistress of this place, standing shoulder to shoulder with Tristan Sinclair on the top floor, looking down upon the bustling business district below.

The very thought of that scene made her tremble with excitement.

Her companion suddenly spoke up. "Esther, look, isn’t that woman one of Chloe Sterling’s friends? What’s she doing at the Sinclair Group?"

Esther Sterling’s gaze shifted downward, and only then did she notice Jean Kensington walking from Sinclair Tower toward the street. Her face filled with disdain. "She’s just a nobody. Who cares what she’s doing here."

The other woman smiled. "Esther, you already won first place in the competition. That means you’ll be signed to the Sinclair Group’s music label soon, right?"

A smile played on Esther Sterling’s lips. "The paperwork should be starting any day now."

"That’s amazing! Does that mean you’ll get to see President Sinclair often?"

Esther Sterling just smiled without responding, but her expression said it all.

It was a look that said she wouldn’t just be seeing President Sinclair often—she would be with him.

When Dean Lynch returned to his office with the baby and pushed open the door, he saw Tristan Sinclair’s tall frame standing beside his desk, looking at something on it.

"President Sinclair! What brings you here?"
